Chapter 1121 Internal Investigation

Ning Zhiheng and Koda Kanan left the residence, nodded to Imai Yuji and the others, and then invited Koda Kanan, saying, "Koda-kun, it's not too late. If you're interested, come and sit at my place. I have some fine tea that I just brought from Japan."

Koda Kanan was naturally delighted with Ning Zhiheng's invitation and quickly nodded in agreement: "That's wonderful! I haven't had tea from my hometown in a long time, so I won't stand on ceremony, haha!"

The two got into the car and left together. Yuji Imai and Taichi Ihara watched from the side, secretly envious. Taichi Ihara muttered, "Koda is really lucky!"

Ihara Taichi was well-informed and naturally knew Fujiwara Tomohito's identity, but he couldn't care less about that now. He then reached out to Imai Yuji beside him and said, "Imai-kun, I will investigate Takasugi Hitoki as soon as possible. That photo?"

Yuji Imai was taken aback, then remembered, so he took out the photo and handed it to Taichi Ihara, saying in a deep voice, "Ihara-kun, please give me an answer as soon as possible."

Ihara Taichi didn't say anything, just nodded, turned around, got into his car, and left.

Ning Zhiheng's residence was not far from Uehara Junpei's mansion. He and Koda Kanan came to his home, and he personally brewed tea. The two of them chatted in the elegant room.

Ning Zhiheng was an excellent orator, and he deliberately chatted with Koda Kanan about everything under the sun, from the situation in Japan to the customs and traditions of various parts of China. They were in high spirits when they finally steered the conversation toward the matter he was going to report to that evening.

"Koda-kun, I noticed you and Imai-kun seemed to have some disagreements earlier. What happened between you two? Do you need me to step in for you?"

Ning Zhiheng wore a concerned expression, implying that if Koda Kanan and Imai Yuji were to clash, he would naturally be willing to support Koda Kanan.

Koda Kanan felt a surge of warmth in his heart and quickly explained, "There was indeed some conflict with Imai-kun today, and I injured a few of his team members, but it was all a misunderstanding."

Facing the powerful Fujiwara Tomohito, he naturally had no suspicion. Then, he carefully recounted everything that had happened that day to Ning Zhiheng, and finally said, "The whole thing actually has nothing to do with me. It's all a conflict between the Special Higher Police and the United News Agency. But there were still casualties, so Mr. Imai is somewhat resistant to me."

Ning Zhiheng then fully understood the whole story. Sure enough, there was a problem with the red organization in Japan, which led to Takasugi Jinki's involvement. Fortunately, no one was left alive during the operation. Takasugi Jinki took the initiative and attacked the Special Higher Police, clearly intending to use his special status to take a risky gamble.

The outcome doesn't seem too bad so far. Uehara Junpei ordered an internal investigation of Takasugi Hitoki by the United News Agency, which suggests that the situation isn't too dire and is at least not the worst possible result.

The problem now is that the Special Higher Police are demanding that Takasugi Jinki identify another companion. This is a demand that Takasugi Jinki cannot refuse. How could he possibly say that he doesn't recognize the companion he took a photo with? That makes no sense at all.

However, if Takasugi Jinki refuses to reveal the identity of the person he took a photo with, his identity as a communist will inevitably be exposed, and his situation will be uncertain. If he reveals the name of this companion, will it cause a new crisis?

Ning Zhiheng couldn't help but feel a headache coming on. In his initial plan, Takasugi Hitoki should have withdrawn and retreated quickly after receiving the warning. However, he did not expect that he would choose to stay and not leave. There would be a lot of things to deal with afterward. He didn't know how Takasugi Hitoki would respond.

He felt powerless to do anything about it and had no more information to report to the underground party organization. He believed that the underground party organization was aware of Takasugi Hitoshi's situation, and he could only adapt to the situation and observe how things developed.

That evening, Taichi Ihara rushed back to the United News Agency and immediately ordered Takasugi Hitoshi to be detained and placed under house arrest in a solitary confinement cell.

In the room, Ihara Taichi and Takasugi Jinki sat facing each other on either side of the table. Ihara Taichi's face was very unpleasant. Takasugi Jinki was not only his friend and classmate for many years, but also his most trusted confidant. However, this matter had indeed made him suspicious, and he was determined to find out the truth.

Takasugi Jinki held the group photo up to his eyes and examined it carefully. Although a slight look of surprise appeared on his face, his heart was in turmoil. He understood the reason for everything. He quickly thought of a solution in his mind. First, he needed to give the group photo a reasonable explanation. Second, he needed to figure out the identity of the other companion and how he should deal with it.

His mind raced, but he said with surprise, "I recognize this photo. This is from when I first graduated from the East Asian Tongwen School and returned to Japan. I made two friends shortly after, and we got along well, so we took a photo together. The one on the left is Mihara Kashiwagi, and the other one..."

Takasugi Jinki hesitated for a moment, and Ihara Taichi immediately perked up, staring intently at Takasugi Jinki's face, carefully observing his subtle changes, trying to judge the truthfulness of his words.

Takasugi then pretended to recall something, and after a long while said, "This person is Chinese, named Wang Xingyan, and is an exchange student at Kyoto University."

In the end, Takasugi Hitoshi decided to reveal his companion's identity because he couldn't find any reason to refuse. If Wang Xingyan's identity wasn't confirmed, he would be exposed immediately, and all his previous efforts would be in vain. He could only get through this first and then take remedial measures.

Ihara Taichi was well aware of Takasugi Jinki's history. Many of the graduates of the East Asia Dobun Gakuin were recalled to Japan and assigned to various intelligence agencies, where they engaged in espionage work against China. It seems that Takasugi Jinki came into contact with communist elements around this time.
