Chapter 1218 Successful Detonation

Deng Zhihong couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. The Chief was truly resourceful. In Nanjing, the stronghold of the Japanese puppet government, so many explosive materials were prepared in just one hour, and the transportation problem was easily solved. It seemed that the Chief had more than just his subordinates in Nanjing. There must be another powerful force lurking there, which was truly unfathomable.

The convoy traveled in the darkness and soon stopped. Loud shouts came from ahead. Deng Zhihong knew that this was the checkpoint leading out of Nanjing. Just as the team members were feeling uneasy, the vehicles started up again and quickly passed through the checkpoint and left the city.

"These guys really don't even bother to check. Is the Fujiwara Company's convoy really that effective?" A team member couldn't help but blurt out. They had all heard of the Fujiwara Company's reputation when they were in Shanghai.

Deng Zhihong laughed and said, "We used this sign precisely because it's so useful. These guys would never have imagined that we would just swagger past right under their noses."

The journey was uneventful. The convoy moved slowly in the darkness, stopping only briefly at each checkpoint before passing through smoothly without anyone bothering to search the vehicles.

Two hours later, the vehicle suddenly slowed down and came to a slow stop.

The group, who were already prepared, each carried a portion of explosives and jumped off the train. The vehicle started up again and quickly disappeared into the night.

Deng Zhihong turned around and asked, "Lei Peng, do you know where this is?"

By the moonlight, Lei Peng, a member of the action team, looked around and nodded, saying, "The location is correct. Go down this fork in the road, cross these hills, and not far ahead is the railway section of Jinshanwei."

Everyone's spirits lifted, and Deng Zhihong waved his hand, ordering, "Let's go!"

The next morning, at Nanjing Railway Station, Ning Zhiheng gently comforted Nojima Ichiro on the stretcher. Nojima Ichiro's eyes were filled with gratitude, but he could not speak. The two shook hands tightly before reluctantly parting ways. They watched as the nine patients were carried into the carriage, and the special train slowly started and drove out of the railway station.

Ning Zhiheng raised his hand to check the time; it was exactly nine o'clock in the morning. Imai Yuji, who was accompanying him, watched the train leave and asked respectfully, "Sir, please rest assured, I have specially arranged a team of medical staff to take care of Nojima-kun. There will be absolutely no problem."

Ning Zhiheng nodded and smiled, "Thank you, Mr. Imai. It's perfect timing. I need to go to the consulate to meet with Vice Minister Shimizu. Will you come with me?"

"Hi Yi!" Yushi Imai bowed and accepted the order.

At 10 a.m., in the woods south of the Jinshanwei section of the railway, Deng Zhihong and Lei Peng were lying on the ground, holding binoculars, observing the movements in the direction of Nanjing.

Last night, Deng Zhihong led his team to the designated blasting site. They immediately planted explosives, set up the detonation points, and laid the fuses. After completing the setup, fearing that too many people could cause accidents during the evacuation, he ordered the other team members to evacuate overnight, while he and Lei Peng stayed behind to activate the detonation device.

"Team leader, two trains have already passed through Nanjing this morning. This next one should be it, right?" Lei Peng asked softly.

Deng Zhihong, however, was extremely patient. He glanced at the time and replied calmly, "It's about time. If it departs at nine o'clock sharp, there are only thirty minutes left. Don't worry, military trains are easy to spot. There are armored vehicles leading the way. Once you see the armored vehicles, it's definitely the train!"

"Hmm!" Lei Peng nodded and said with a smile, "Over the years, we've blown up people, cars, warehouses, and even big hotels, but we've never blown up a train. This time, we've really come along. Team leader, how about I start it up in a bit?"

"Smack!"

Deng Zhihong slapped Ray-Ban on the back of the head and chuckled softly, "I've never blown one up either! You dare to try and take it from me!"

The two men chatted and joked to pass the time, when suddenly, Lei Peng's eyes narrowed, and he pointed in the direction of the demolition point, saying urgently, "Team leader, look!"

Upon hearing this, Deng Zhihong quickly looked over and saw a railway inspector walking from the east. He was carrying a leather bag and holding a special inspection hammer, which he was tapping on the rails as he approached the blasting point step by step.

Experienced track inspectors can determine various conditions simply by tapping the rails with a hammer and observing the different sounds they make. If the rails are not connected to the ground, are floating in mid-air, or have loose screws or cracks, the tone and timbre of the sound will change. The track inspector will then discover potential hazards in advance, perform simple repairs, or notify the railway maintenance team to carry out major repairs. This work may seem simple, but it is extremely important, bearing the heavy responsibility of ensuring the safe transportation of railways. Human lives are at stake, and not a single sleeper or screw can be taken lightly. Therefore, track inspectors are generally very dedicated and responsible.

"Team leader, this kid might be up to no good!" Lei Peng whispered to Deng Zhihong, his eyes fixed on the track inspector's every move.

Deng Zhihong was also observing, feeling equally uncertain. Last night, so many explosive charges were placed on the tracks, and so much explosives were planted. There must be traces of digging in the railway foundation, and there would inevitably be loose areas between the ground and the tracks. He didn't know if the track inspector could discover this. He was worried that his efforts all night might be wasted on the track inspector.

"Never mind, let's sneak over and tie this guy up!" Deng Zhihong finally made up his mind. He dared not take any chances. At critical moments, decisiveness was paramount!

The road patrolman wasn't walking fast. He was responsible for patrolling this section of the road, and he had to walk dozens of miles every day. Today, he would walk a little further and then he would be done with his task and could head home.
