After giving the Zuo siblings a detailed explanation, Ning Zhiheng returned to the Military Intelligence Investigation Department.
Three days passed quickly, and everything went relatively smoothly. Zhao Jiang, who was in charge of monitoring Du Qian, returned to report that the agents from the Party Affairs Investigation Department had indeed withdrawn, and no one was following Du Qian anymore. Ning Zhiheng instructed him to continue monitoring and not to let his guard down.
Du Qian has been publicly declaring that his new backer is Ning Zhiheng, the team leader of the Military Intelligence Investigation Department, but so far, there has been no unusual activity from the Police Headquarters.
However, the investigation into the Zuo siblings' case has already yielded a general result.
In the Zuo family's living room, Ning Zhiheng looked at the documents in his hand and asked, "Have you figured out the situation for all of these?"
Zuo Gang said respectfully, "We've checked the general situation, but we haven't gone into the details, for fear of missing any traces!"
Ning Zhiheng nodded and said, "This is enough. We'll go there tonight and check Hengfeng Trading Company's warehouse first. If there are no records of incoming goods, we'll check their ledgers!"
Ning Zhiheng's idea was to start by investigating the cargo transportation process, checking every link that might have handled the cargo transport records to see if there were any clues.
That evening, Ning Zhiheng and Zuo Gang both had Zuo Rou disguise them. Ning Zhiheng and Zuo Gang looked much older, with wrinkles on their foreheads and wearing blue worker's clothes, looking exactly like two middle-aged workers!
The two hurried to the warehouse of Hengfeng Trading Company. The wall was high, but it was not a problem for them.
Zuo Gang and Ning Zhiheng both leaped over. Zuo Gang knew that Ning Zhiheng must be quite skilled, but witnessing Ning Zhiheng's agility as swift as a cat and his movements so silent, he couldn't help but admire him. If he hadn't been right next to Ning Zhiheng, he would have had a hard time noticing his movements.
As a seasoned veteran who's used to doing these things, I'm actually no match for a military officer when it comes to this kind of shady business of scaling walls and breaking into houses. It's quite embarrassing and disheartening to think about it.
Arriving near a two-story tiled house in the courtyard, Zuo Gang pointed and whispered, "There's a guard downstairs, and the office is upstairs. The inventory records should be upstairs."
Ning Zhiheng nodded. Zuo Gang gestured for him to wait a moment, and then slowly stepped forward. He had already scouted the area over the past two days, and with practiced ease, he sneaked into the house.
A moment later, she opened the door and waved to Ning Zhiheng, who was hiding in the shadows. Ning Zhiheng then quickly stepped into the room.
"The person is already unconscious, and even thunder won't wake them up!" Zuo Gang pointed to the room. This was something he was used to doing, and it didn't take him any effort at all.
Ning Zhiheng nodded in agreement. In terms of skill, only Sun Jiacheng among his men could suppress the Zuo siblings, but he was probably inferior in these martial arts techniques.
The two went upstairs. Ning Zhiheng gestured to Zuo Gang not to move around. He first forcibly memorized the environment and layout of the room before he began searching.
Zuo Gang watched as Ning Zhiheng searched with deft movements, meticulously restoring everything to its original state after each search. He then realized why he hadn't let Ning Zhiheng interfere; it seemed that real special agents were far more meticulous and thorough in their work than he was.
Ning Zhiheng quickly found a logbook, which contained records of goods entering and leaving the warehouse.
He carefully examined the inventory records for the past twenty days, especially those from a week ago, but unfortunately, there was no record of that batch of cotton cloth.
After checking carefully again and confirming that there were no omissions, it seems that this batch of goods was shipped directly and was not transferred here.
Ning Zhiheng was not surprised. He was just investigating step by step. If he could find the record of that batch here, that would be best. If not, he would continue to investigate further. It was impossible for such a large batch of goods to be transferred and resold without any trace.
After cleaning up all traces, the two men left the warehouse courtyard by the same route they had taken. Even if the staff on duty noticed something was wrong when they woke up the next day, they wouldn't be able to find the source of the problem.
Then the two arrived at Hengfeng Trading Company, which was not far away. Zuo Gang pointed to the office building in front of them and said, "The east side of the second floor is all Hengfeng Trading Company's offices. The third room to the right after turning the stairs is the accounting office! There are no staff on duty here at night, but their door locks are very sturdy. They are new double-locked locks, and it will take some time to open them!"
Ning Zhiheng nodded. It seemed that Zuo Gang was very meticulous in his work. He had thoroughly investigated all the situations in the past two days. This was the first time they had worked for Ning Zhiheng, so of course they were on high alert and had made very thorough preparations.
The two of them nimbly climbed up to the second floor, entered the building through the ventilation window at the stairwell, and soon arrived at the door of Hengfeng Trading Company's accounting office.
Zuo Gang took out a cloth bag, which, when unfolded, was full of various small lock-picking tools.
"Then it's up to you. Don't rush, take your time, and don't damage the lock cylinder or let air in!" Ning Zhiheng said.
Zuo Gang nodded and began to unlock the lock. Time passed slowly, and finally, with a "snap," the lock opened gently.
The two men pushed open the door and entered, then turned around and gently closed it. Just like last time, Zuo Gang didn't move from the doorway, while Ning Zhiheng was in charge of the search.
The accounting office was simply furnished. Ning Zhiheng quickly memorized the contents and began searching. In the corner of the room, he found a small safe. It should contain something important, probably some cash or important documents.
Hopefully it's not hidden in a safe. If that's the case, Ning Zhiheng will have to give up. Neither he nor Zuo Gang has the ability to open a safe without leaving a trace. So the next step is to start with the personnel of Hengfeng Trading Company, such as the accountant who handles tax procedures, the specific staff who handle the customs clearance of the vehicles and goods, and so on.
