The arrest operation went smoothly. Liang Shi'an had received some training in the combat troops many years ago, but after being transferred to the Military Commission, his reactions became somewhat sluggish. He was attacked by several well-trained action team members and had no power to resist at all!
His hands were handcuffed behind his back, a rag was stuffed into his mouth, his head was forcibly held down, and he was shoved into a car parked next to him. The car sped away, and the group drove off!
Half an hour later, Ning Zhiheng met Liang Shian in the interrogation room of the torture department.
He glanced at the officer who was already tightly bound, then turned and asked, "Was the arrest successful? Has the search been completed?"
Wang Shucheng said, "The arrest operation went smoothly. We found a secluded place, and they searched the whole body. There was only a gun on the side, and no potassium cyanide or other drugs were found in the collar or cuffs!"
Ning Zhiheng nodded. The arrest operation went more smoothly than he had expected, and no poison was found that could lead to suicide. This Liang Shi'an was probably a spy who had been turned. Relatively speaking, such spies do not have a strong will to resist, so interrogating him would be much simpler.
Looking at Liang Shi'an, Ning Zhiheng asked in a calm tone, "Liang Shi'an, do you know why we arrested you?"
By this time, Liang Shi'an had recovered from his initial panic. The despair and helplessness in his eyes were clearly visible. In fact, when he was sent into the Military Intelligence Investigation Department, he knew that there was no hope left.
But instead of answering Ning Zhiheng's question directly, he asked in return, "Can you tell me where this place is? And who are you people?"
Ning Zhiheng smiled slightly and said, "I forgot to introduce myself. This is the Military Intelligence Investigation Department. I am Ning Zhiheng, the leader of the fourth action group of the Action Section!"
The last glimmer of hope in his heart was instantly extinguished, and Liang Shi'an's face turned ashen. As an officer, he certainly knew what kind of department the Military Intelligence Investigation Office was.
He opened his mouth, and finally managed to squeeze out a few words: "Ask away, I'll tell you everything!"
This statement surprised Ning Zhiheng and Wang Shucheng, who were standing beside him. They had arrested so many spies, but this was the first time they had encountered such a situation. There was no resistance or argument; he simply said it in one simple sentence!
Ning Zhiheng waved his hand, and all the interrogators in the interrogation room left, leaving only Ning Zhiheng and Wang Shucheng.
“Liang Shi’an, you’re a pragmatic person. This is for the best. It’s simpler for everyone. We won’t have to fight, and you’ll suffer less.” Ning Zhiheng returned to his seat and gestured for Wang Shucheng to start taking notes.
"When did you join the Japanese spy organization?" Ning Zhiheng asked.
Upon hearing the words "Japanese spy organization," Liang Shi'an's eyes narrowed, and he said helplessly, "I never intended to join them. At first, I just thought he was an intelligence dealer who wanted to get some insignificant information to make a living. I never imagined he would be a Japanese spy!"
Upon hearing his words, Ning Zhiheng quickly asked, "Who...who is this 'him'?"
Unexpectedly, this led to the discovery of Liang Shi'an's superior so quickly. Judging from his words, he had actually met his superior.
“His name is Gu Wenshi. He was my colleague in the army back then. Now he is a major staff officer in the 3rd Regiment of the 14th Division!” Liang Shi’an answered in detail.
"Great! We've dug up another big fish!" Ning Zhiheng and Wang Shucheng exchanged a glance.
As the interrogation progressed, Liang Shi'an did not hide anything and confessed everything.
It turns out that Liang Shi'an had a chance encounter with his old comrade-in-arms Gu Wenshi on the street three years ago. After a long separation, the two shared a drink and reminisced about the past.
After many years of moving around, Gu Wenshi had now become an operations staff officer in the 3rd Regiment of the 14th Division. When he heard that Liang Shi'an had actually become a staff officer in the Military Commission, he was overjoyed, and the two had a very pleasant conversation.
After that, the two often visited each other, and would have a couple of drinks together when they had nothing to do. Liang Shi'an's family was not wealthy; his parents and brothers were all ordinary people. He was the eldest son in the family, and he had no choice but to join the army to make a living because of his family's poverty. He finally made it and got to where he is now.
However, his family's life has become increasingly difficult over the years. His parents are often ill, and his younger brothers are also from poor families. Knowing that he is now a military officer with a government salary, they all ask him for money.
At this time, people's family values were deeply rooted. Liang Shi'an was the eldest son in the family and could only support himself. Although his salary was much higher than that of ordinary people, it was still a low-paying job with no extra income. His salary alone was not enough to support the whole family.
Gu Wenshi repeatedly offered his help, saying that he was self-sufficient and had plenty of money.
However, as the saying goes, "help in an emergency, but not in a life of poverty," and after a while, Liang Shi'an became too embarrassed to ask again. So, during one conversation, Gu Wenshi mentioned that he also did some intelligence work to earn some money.
He persuaded Liang Shi'an to collect some trivial intelligence within the Military Commission, which he could then exchange for money to alleviate his current predicament.
Liang Shi'an flatly refused, as stealing military intelligence was a serious crime and he dared not do it. Gu Wenshi did not say anything more and did not bring up the matter again.
However, Liang Shi'an's second brother soon had an accident. He was dragged into a scam on the street and incurred a debt. Liang Shi'an had to use all his savings to settle the matter for him.
Life became increasingly difficult, and the pressure of supporting his large family finally became unbearable for Liang Shi'an. For the first time, he handed over a document from the Ministry of Military Service to Gu Wenshi, which was actually of little military value and could be obtained by anyone with a bit of effort. However, Gu Wenshi was very happy to pay Liang Shi'an three hundred silver dollars!
