However, emergencies are very rare, occurring only three times in the past four years.
The fourth time was six days ago in the morning. Ryota Takano went to work early, leaving Misa Kawada at home, where she received a message on the radio every two hours.
At 10:00 a.m., Misa Kawada turned on the radio and listened to the information on the fixed channel.
She originally thought that there would be no information as usual, after all, she had only received information three times in the past four years. But she did not expect that there would be information on the radio again this time.
She quickly received the message and deciphered it immediately. The message instructed her to use code words to make an alarm call as quickly as possible.
She immediately went out, deliberately walked two blocks away, found an ordinary shop, and used a public phone to dial that number. She simply said the code word and hung up.
And so, this emergency mission was completed.
Takano Ryota was told about this by Kawada Misa after he got home from get off work.
Unexpectedly, such a simple task, a short phone call of less than half a minute, was noticed by the Military Intelligence Investigation Department. They were able to trace them back to them based solely on a cheongsam. It can be said that the net of justice is vast and its meshes are wide, yet nothing escapes it.
"Tell me what the first three missions were?" Ning Zhiheng pressed on. "I hope you don't lie. Don't forget, Kawada Misa is still in our hands. If we find any discrepancies between your and her testimonies, your fate will be very tragic!"
Ning Zhiheng hadn't expected that this spy couple were independent pawns, without any superiors or subordinates. Although they directly received orders from the Japanese Special Higher Police headquarters, the trail ended there, and the case had come to an end.
However, the result was not bad. At least two real Japanese spies were captured, and they can now report back to the Chief!
Upon hearing Ning Zhiheng's question, Takano Ryota felt a chill in his heart. He had originally planned to lie to Ning Zhiheng, but when he thought about how Kawada Misa had also fallen into the hands of the Military Intelligence Investigation Department, and how he would never want to go through that hellish ordeal again if her testimony didn't match up after the interrogation, he realized he didn't want to go through it again.
He put himself in her shoes, thinking that Kawada Misa couldn't possibly endure such torture and would eventually have to talk out. With that in mind, he simply abandoned any other ideas and told her everything.
So he thought about it carefully and said, "The first time was in May three years ago. I can't remember the exact time. They told me to buy two train tickets for the earliest possible trip to Anqing and two men's suits, and put them in the locker at Hong'an Hotel."
The second time was on September 13th two years ago, and the situation was the same as this time, with a warning call made using code words.
The third time was on June 20th last year. They asked me to carve a triangular pattern on a cypress tree in the south of the city before dawn.
Ning Zhiheng felt a headache coming on. The three clues provided by Takano Ryota were all too vague. Apart from the alarm call from two years ago, which could be investigated, the other two were difficult to follow up on.
The first task, as you can tell from the name, is to prepare train tickets and clothing, which must be to arrange for two people to rush to Anqing. The only clue in this case is the locker at Hong'an Hotel, but it is estimated that this location will be of no value after it has been used.
Moreover, so much time has passed that it would be too difficult to investigate, and most likely it would be a waste of time.
The third one is even more baffling. It's simply a triangle carved on a cypress tree by the roadside. As for what it represents, no one knows. And with so many pedestrians passing by all day long, how can anyone be sure who this triangular pattern is meant for? It's practically a mystery!
Seeing that there were indeed no valuable clues, Ning Zhiheng decisively ended the interrogation.
He let the interrogators in and took Takano Ryota away. He turned around and looked at Wang Shucheng. Seeing that Wang Shucheng's expression had returned to normal, he smiled and said, "The case is over. Now that Takano Ryota has spoken, Kawada Misa is no longer of any value. You will be in charge of interrogating her in a moment."
Wang Shucheng nodded when he heard Ning Zhiheng's words. He knew that Ning Zhiheng was giving him a chance to train him. In any case, it didn't matter whether Kawada Misa spoke or not. She was only used to verify the authenticity of Takano Ryota's testimony. Even if she really died from her injuries during the interrogation, there would be no loss.
Ning Zhiheng patted Wang Shucheng on the shoulder and encouraged him, "Don't hold back. This Japanese woman is tougher than any man. She's a good practice subject. Once we've verified her statements, she'll be of no use to us anymore. I'll wait for your news."
After saying that, Ning Zhiheng stepped out of the interrogation room and said to the interrogators waiting outside, "Go and bring Kang Chunxue here, and continue the interrogation."
Upon hearing this, the interrogators quickly turned around to grab the person and soon dragged Kawada Misa into the interrogation room.
Ning Zhiheng then remembered something: Yu Cheng from the intelligence department had also brought back a young woman. Now that the real criminal had confessed, this woman must be innocent. Under Yu Cheng's interrogation, her fate was uncertain.
He quickly walked a few steps to another interrogation room not far away, pushed open the door, and found it empty.
He turned and went to the interrogation room office, asked the staff member on duty, and the staff member, seeing that it was Ning Zhiheng, quickly replied, "Team Leader Ning, the interrogation presided over by Team Leader Yu of the Intelligence Section ended very quickly, and the suspect has now been taken away and is no longer in our interrogation section."
Upon hearing this, Ning Zhiheng felt relieved and knew what had happened. It must have been that under torture, the woman finally revealed her whereabouts that day. After Yu Cheng verified the information, he released her. It seemed that Yu Cheng still had some principles and did not force a confession.
