Chapter 248 Before Going Home

The Military Intelligence Investigation Department's arrest operation was successfully completed, but shortly after they left the cotton mill, a figure appeared in the darkness. He cautiously approached the cotton mill's wall, rushed forward quickly, and nimbly vaulted over the wall.

He cautiously made his way forward, his goal being the location of the old warehouse. However, he still observed the surrounding area for a long time to prevent any enemy ambushes. Only after confirming that no one was watching him did he carefully enter the old warehouse.

Looking at the mess inside the warehouse and the bloodstains scattered all over the ground, the man shook his head helplessly.

He was originally an undercover agent responsible for cooperating with the Japanese investigation team, living in a nearby residential house. He was also responsible for providing the cotton mill warehouse as a hiding place. He originally thought the location was extremely well hidden, but when he didn't expect such dense gunfire coming from the cotton mill in the middle of the night, he knew things were bad, so he risked coming in to check. Now it seems that the entire investigation team has been wiped out, and all ten elite agents have been captured, which is a further blow to the already deteriorating intelligence situation.

He was an undercover agent who had been in contact with the head of the investigation team, Kenji Takeshita. Now that Takeshita's fate is unknown, he is also in danger of being exposed. It seems that his undercover career has come to an end. He must leave in time and report to the Special Higher Police Headquarters.

The man dared not linger there for long, so he quickly left the old warehouse, climbed over the courtyard wall, and disappeared into the thick darkness of the night.

The next morning, Ning Zhiheng rushed to the Military Intelligence Investigation Department, but when he went upstairs, he saw that the entire Operations Section was bustling with people coming and going in a hurry.

He couldn't help but feel a little puzzled. It was so early, but it seemed that the action team hadn't rested all night. It must have made some progress in the interrogation last night, which was why they were busy until dawn.

He returned to his office, opened the window and looked out. Soon after, several military vehicles drove in quickly. Some officers opened the doors, pulled out a prisoner with his hands cuffed behind his back, and headed towards the interrogation department.

These are the criminals who were brought back from the operation. It seems that a lot of things happened last night that they were unaware of.

He hurried out the door and rushed to Zhao Ziliang's office, knocking on the door before entering.

"Section Chief, did you have any success last night? I saw other action teams were on the move, and they just brought back another criminal." Ning Zhiheng asked curiously.

Zhao Ziliang hadn't slept all night, and his eyes showed obvious fatigue, but his spirits were very high.

He said with a smile, "After you left yesterday, we interrogated the spies we arrested and found out that the leader of the spy team, Kenji Takeshita, had died on the spot during the arrest. However, his deputy, Seihei Ohno, quickly confessed that he had actually bribed an insider in our military intelligence investigation department with a large sum of money."

"What? An inside man! In our military intelligence investigation department, has this guy gone mad? He actually dared to take money from the Japanese!" Ning Zhiheng exclaimed in surprise.

"It was a clerk from the General Affairs Department named Yan Jing. The Japanese were posing as intelligence brokers, spending a large sum of money to buy information and data about our Operations Department personnel. We should be thankful this time; if they had bribed intelligence personnel, they would have had the right to access the files of members in other departments, and the situation would have been much more serious!"

"But that doesn't matter now. The man's been arrested. He's a traitor, unacceptable under the rules!" Zhao Ziliang said coldly. "We've already translated those documents overnight. They contain details about most of our operations team members, even my address and my family situation. It's utterly depraved. Luckily, you discovered it this time; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable!"

At this point, Zhao Ziliang felt a wave of lingering fear. Anyone would feel a sense of helplessness and terror when their family and relatives are threatened. He now understood Ning Zhiheng's worries even more. No wonder Ning Zhiheng was in such a hurry to return to Hangzhou to deal with family matters. He was afraid Ning Zhiheng would not be able to eat or sleep properly until this matter was resolved.

"Is there any material about me?" Ning Zhiheng was startled and quickly asked.

"There is very little information about you, only a position and name, and no other materials. You have only been in the Military Intelligence Investigation Department for a short time, and Yan Jing is not very familiar with your situation yet. However, this situation will be resolved soon. In the future, our files will not be accessible without the department head's signature."

Hearing Zhao Ziliang say this, Ning Zhiheng finally felt relieved. He then asked Zhao Ziliang, "But what about the prisoner I just saw?"

Zhao Ziliang stood up with a smile, stretched comfortably, picked up the teacup on the table, and was about to pour himself another cup of strong tea to refresh himself when Ning Zhiheng quickly took the teacup from him, turned around and poured him a cup of hot water, and handed it to Zhao Ziliang.

Zhao Ziliang was in a good mood and took the teacup, saying again, "You don't know, yesterday was a really good day. In the middle of the night, Gu Wenshi spoke up. He confessed that he was responsible for successfully turning four spies. Just as you guessed, he was a fish that slipped through the net in the Blackwater spy group. With that, the case of the Blackwater spy group can be considered completely closed. Gu Zhengqi was so happy that he couldn't stop smiling. Meng Lesheng had been in the hospital for so long, barely hanging on to his last breath, which made Gu Zhengqi want to eat him alive. Now that it's finally over, he can finally give the director an explanation."

Ning Zhiheng only then realized that so much had happened in the latter half of the night. Gu Wenshi had actually spoken up. The prisoner he had just seen must have been one of the four spies that Gu Wenshi had turned against him.
