Chapter 327 At a Loss

Ning Zhiheng only had a small drink at noon, as he had to go to work in the afternoon. Yoshimura Masakazu, being a police officer, also didn't dare to drink too much. However, the two of them were still in high spirits and chatted for a long time before taking their respective breaks.

Ning Zhiheng went to work as usual in the afternoon. Before leaving, he told Mrs. Yoshimura that he would be eating out in the evenings from now on, so she didn't need to prepare dinner for him.

Many Japanese men like to have a drink at a bar before going home in the evening, and Mrs. Yoshimura didn't mind and nodded in agreement.

In fact, Ning Zhiheng meets with Ji Hongyi every night to discuss the situation and plan their next move, which is why he doesn't want to come home at night. He doesn't want people to always be paying attention to when he comes home.

The work at the library was simple, and Ning Zhiheng was smart enough to quickly get the hang of it. The job was indeed very good; the working environment was good, there was no heavy physical labor, and it was a good opportunity to read more Japanese books, improve his Japanese language skills, and learn more about Japanese culture in order to better adapt to his current identity.

Time flew by, and Ning Zhiheng soon got to leave work. He finished his tasks, packed up his belongings, and was about to go home when he noticed that Fukui Yuuma was still there, organizing books.

Ning Zhiheng couldn't help but ask curiously, "Fukui-kun, why aren't you getting ready to leave work?"

Fukui Yuuma could only grin and say, "I also want to go home after get off work, but we need to be on duty at the library at night. We not only have to prevent theft, but also because there is a lot of wood and books here. If a fire breaks out, it will be too serious. So we also have to prevent fires. We take turns on the night shift and stay in the library to rest at night. It's my turn today, and it will be your turn in a few days."

At this point, she gave Ning Zhiheng a helpless look. After a long day of work, who wouldn't want to have a few drinks, take a hot shower when they get home, and relax comfortably for the night?

Ning Zhiheng then realized that he could stay there at night, which made him very happy. He secretly made a mental note of it, then said goodbye to his colleagues and left Nanwu Bookstore.

He soon arrived near Huimin Grain Store, carefully observed his surroundings, and made a counter-tracking gesture to make sure no one was following him before stepping into Huimin Grain Store.

When the boss, Rong Xingchang, saw Ning Zhiheng enter, he simply nodded without saying a word. Ning Zhiheng went straight into the room in the back hall. Ji Hongyi had not yet returned, so Ning Zhiheng had no choice but to wait patiently.

It wasn't until dusk that Ji Hongyi returned. He entered Huimin Grain Store and looked at Rong Xingchang, who gestured towards the back room.

Ji Hongyi knew that Ning Zhiheng was already waiting inside. He quickly entered the back room, looked at Ning Zhiheng, and asked, "How is the South Room Study?"

Ning Zhiheng nodded and replied, "It went very smoothly. You acted quickly. I'm already working at Nanwu Bookstore now."

At this point, he asked Ji Hongyi, "So, did you find any trace of the others today?"

Ji Hongyi said in a deep voice, "According to the location you mentioned, everyone except one person has been found!"

Ji Hongyi's words shocked Ning Zhiheng! The missing person must have been killed in action. He pressed, "Who's missing?"

"We're missing that Gong Ping! We've found the others near the various checkpoints!" Ji Hongyi replied.

Ning Zhiheng remained silent for a while, then pondered for a moment before asking again, "Yu Li has also appeared?"

“Yes, it’s in a house across from the Suzhou Bridge. He’s surrounded by four Japanese plainclothes officers, and they’re protecting him very closely. I bet they have a lot of people hiding in the shadows too. Our people can’t get close at all,” Ji Hongyi said.

This was to be expected. Japanese spies would definitely take strict protective measures against these traitors. A direct assault was not advisable, and no matter how many action team members I brought, we couldn't possibly outnumber the Japanese.

“Tell me about their respective routes!” Ning Zhiheng said.

“Okay, let me explain in detail!” Ji Hongyi stepped forward and said.

He compiled all the tracking records under his command and began to describe the whereabouts and routes of each person one by one.

There were four people in total: Yu Li, Yan Kaiding, Xing Shengrong, and Qi Jingwu. Each of them was assigned to a checkpoint set up by the Japanese in the occupied area. They would observe the checkpoints during the day and leave when the checkpoints were closed to pedestrians at 5 p.m. They would meet up at the Suzhou Bridge and then return together to a safe house not far from the headquarters of the Japanese Special Higher Police in Shanghai to rest.

Ning Zhiheng asked, "So they usually stay separate and only return to that safe house at night. If we want to eliminate all four of them at the same time, we can only attack this safe house. How many guards are there?"

Ji Hongyi replied, "Each person traveling was guarded by four people, plus the personnel remaining in that safe house, there were at least twenty Japanese agents."

"Zhiheng, that safe house is a large compound, heavily fortified almost like a fortress. It's also very close to the Japanese Special Higher Police, and Japanese troops patrol the area. There's no way we can just storm it. I don't want you to go and die!"

Ning Zhiheng was also extremely discouraged when he heard Ji Hongyi's words. According to him, even if his action team successfully assassinated four targets, the last one probably wouldn't come out!

Ning Zhiheng would never let his men die in vain; that was not his style. He had to plan carefully, find the biggest weakness, and strike decisively!

However, assassinating four targets separately outside would be even more difficult, because when these four people are carrying out the identification mission, there are definitely more than four people around them. There must be many people hiding in the shadows, ready to arrest the identified intelligence station personnel at any time.
