Ning Zhiheng went straight back to the Nanwu Bookstore to rest. In the afternoon, he continued to work on his manuscript. In the evening, he met with Ji Hongyi at Huimin Grain Store as usual.
"So? Have the remaining three shown up today?" Ning Zhiheng asked, sitting opposite Ji Hongyi.
“Only two people showed up: Yan Kaiding and Xing Shengrong. Yu Li was the only one missing!” Ji Hongyi replied.
Upon hearing Ji Hongyi's answer, Ning Zhiheng was overjoyed. While thinking, he voiced his guess: "Yu Li? It seems that he was the one who was sent to Boli Hospital last night!"
Based on our previous assessment, it appears that a conflict occurred between Yu Li and Qi Jingwu, resulting in one death and one injury.
Yu Li is a traitor we have confirmed. He caused the deaths of more than ten agents from the military intelligence station and the capture of four agents. His betrayal is beyond doubt. Why would Qi Jingwu attack him? Could it be that Qi Jingwu is feigning surrender and has some intention to defect?
And then there's Yu Li. We don't know the extent of his injuries yet. Ideally, he'd die from his wounds, saving us the trouble of assassinating him.
Ji Hongyi nodded and said, "I hope it will be as you wish, then we will save ourselves a lot of trouble. However, we really have no connections at Boli Hospital, and my people can't find out any information."
Although Ji Hongyi had many subordinates and was well-informed, that was only within the scope of his reach. Boli Hospital, on the other hand, was managed entirely in a Japanese style. All the doctors, nurses, and even the cleaning staff were Japanese, and it only treated Japanese patients. His subordinates couldn't get close to them.
Ning Zhiheng was aware of the situation. After a moment's thought, he said, "I will personally investigate this matter. After all, I now have the identity of a Japanese citizen. Besides, a hospital is a public place, and the security is certainly not as tight as that of a secret service agency. It shouldn't be difficult to investigate."
Ji Hongyi then asked, "So, will the original plan to destroy the water source still be implemented?"
Ning Zhiheng thought for a moment, then nodded and said, "Let's start right away. Time waits for no one. We can't let any of the remaining three people live. Cut off the water supply and keep a close eye on their movements for the next few days. Once we've confirmed their location, you'll be responsible for bringing in my team members and weapons. Is that alright?"
Ji Hongyi thought for a moment and said, "There is still trade between the International Settlement and the Japanese-occupied areas. I can find a way to let them in. It's not difficult to do that."
But it will be very difficult for them to return to the south bank. After 5 p.m., all the checkpoints will be closed, and your assassination attempt will immediately trigger a Japanese manhunt. All Chinese residences in the occupied area will be searched, and they will have no way to hide.”
Ning Zhiheng knew that everything he said was true, so he had no choice but to explain: "That's why I only selected action team members who could swim. After the assassination, they will hide in the Nanwu Bookstore where I now work. It's a bookstore run by the Japanese, so it should be relatively safe."
On the day of the operation, I will find an excuse to stay and work the night shift. If I can cross the Suzhou Creek directly, that would be best. If time doesn't allow, I will cover for them to evade the search, and then swim across the Suzhou Creek in the latter half of the night. Behind the South House Library is an excellent entry point; it's relatively hidden, the river isn't wide, and it's far from the bridge. Swimming across would only take a few minutes, so finding an opportunity shouldn't be difficult.
Only then did Ji Hongyi understand Ning Zhiheng's entire plan. He couldn't help but slap the table and cheer, saying, "So you had already planned this all along. No wonder you insisted on applying for this Nanwu Library job. Alright, I'll arrange for people to start sabotaging the water pipes right away. Their water supply should be cut off by noon tomorrow!"
The two discussed the details carefully before splitting up to carry out their tasks.
The next morning, Ning Zhiheng was in his office. He deliberately wore a white shirt, placed a thick stack of white paper on his desk, found a sharp paper cutter, carefully disinfected it with alcohol, and then quickly slashed his left forearm. Immediately, a stream of blood spurted out, appearing even more vivid against the white shirt.
Ning Zhiheng's hand movements were very precise, and the location was cleverly chosen. Although the cuts were long, they were all shallow superficial wounds. The wounds looked alarming, but they were not actually very serious.
Then he deliberately let out a loud scream, which immediately attracted some employees outside to rush in and discover that Ning Zhiheng's left hand was covered in blood.
"Fujiwara-kun, what's wrong with you?" Fukui Yuuma asked hurriedly.
Ning Zhiheng's face turned a little pale as he explained, "I was about to cut some paper when I accidentally used too much force and cut my left forearm."
Someone immediately went to get a veil to temporarily bandage Ning Zhiheng's wounds. At this moment, Kuroki Yue also rushed over upon hearing the commotion.
Seeing Ning Zhiheng's arm covered in blood, he quickly ordered, "Take Fujiwara-kun to the hospital immediately in my car, quick!"
Ning Zhiheng quickly got into the car, and the driver asked, "Fujiwara-kun, the nearest hospital is Kangning Hospital, shall we go there?"
Ning Zhiheng frowned and said, "There are Chinese people there. Take me to Boli Hospital!"
But you're still bleeding!
"Okay, I can bear it. Get me to Boli Hospital right away!"
"Hi!"
Knowing that Ning Zhiheng was someone Kuroki Yueyi valued highly, the driver naturally dared not neglect him. The car sped along and soon arrived at Boli Hospital.
After getting out of the car, Ning Zhiheng said to the driver, "Mr. Kuroki may still need the car, so you don't need to wait for me. Go back."
