Chapter 432 Setting a Trap

Iwai nosuke looked at He Siming with disdain. This good-for-nothing was completely useless except for being able to speak fluent Chinese. He didn't even think before he spoke!

He ignored He Siming and turned to Akita Akihito again, saying, "Captain, judging from the current signs, the Chinese agents are becoming increasingly brazen and their assassination efforts are intensifying. This indicates that they have begun to sabotage our rear."

Meanwhile, sabotage operations are not limited to assassinating our personnel; they generally involve damaging and destroying valuable military targets. Could we remind the military to strengthen the monitoring and patrol of military facilities to prevent Chinese agents from taking advantage of any opportunities to carry out sabotage activities?

Upon hearing this, Akita Akihito couldn't help but nod. He had to admit that Iwai Nosuke was indeed an extremely intelligent and outstanding agent. He could see things in a new light and quickly grasped the key points.

Frankly speaking, the assassination of a few ordinary soldiers by Chinese agents has no impact on the overall situation. However, if they launch a bombing attack on a military target, the impact would be much greater. This is something we really have to guard against.

He Siming, who was standing to the side, blushed immediately after Iwai Nosuke retorted with a few words.

Iwai nosuke was right. He Siming's previous suggestion was indeed inappropriate. You have to know that Shanghai is the most populous and prosperous city in Asia. Before the Battle of Shanghai, the population of Shanghai was nearly three million, not counting the huge floating population. The household registration system was basically just a formality.

After the war, Shanghai citizens fled in droves. Many people squeezed into the foreign concessions, but even more fled to the surrounding areas such as southern Jiangsu. However, these surrounding areas could not accommodate so many people. In the month following the war, many Chinese citizens returned to Shanghai one after another, and the number of these citizens alone was enormous.

With only the limited manpower of the Special Higher Police, and without comparing previous household registration records, it would be impossible to conduct statistics and verification in a short period of time.

He Siming, of course, was not to be outdone and retorted, "We are the Special Higher Police, not the military intelligence department. We have no right to command the garrison. You think you can mobilize the army to strengthen the protection of all military facilities with just a simple sentence? You're the one who's dreaming!"

Akita Akihito was also aware of the situation. He shook his head at Iwai Nosuke and said, "What you said about strengthening the patrol and protection of military facilities is indeed very reasonable. I will report it to the authorities as fact, and I hope the military will adopt it. You should know that we have no right to interfere with the military's actions."

This brings us to the rather awkward position of the Special Higher Police (THP). Previously, the THP did not belong to the military but was the intelligence department of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Only in recent years has it been placed under the jurisdiction of the military. Although they have the strongest intelligence capabilities and are quite powerful, they still have to accept the leadership of the military's intelligence department. Therefore, they have no binding force on the military and must make recommendations to the military through their superiors.

Iwai no Suke knew that He Siming was well protected by Akita Akihito, so even though He Siming had retorted, he didn't say anything more. He stepped forward and said to Akita Akihito, "Captain, I have some things I'd like to report to you!"

At this point, he turned to look at He Siming, his meaning already quite clear.

He Siming's face changed with anger. This Iwai nosuke was always like this. Whenever he reported a situation, he would act suspiciously, as if no one else could be trusted.

Okay, I admit I'm unreliable, but you've made it way too obvious!

He Siming completely ignored the argument, standing firmly in place without moving an inch.

Finally, Akita Akihito coughed and said, "Shinya, could you go out for a bit? I have something to discuss with Iwai-kun."

Upon seeing the teacher speak, He Siming could only purse his lips and turn away.

Watching He Siming leave, Iwai no Nakajima said to Akita Akihito, "Captain, our investigation has made no progress these past few days. The main reason is that the Chinese agents are operating in the shadows while we are in the open. Shanghai is such a large city that they can randomly choose locations and targets. We are constantly on the run and can't defend against them at all. I think we can't let the Chinese lead us by the nose!"

Akita Akihito nodded and said, "Tell me your specific ideas."

Iwai Nosuke quickly added, "Chinese agents are now looking for assassination targets everywhere. I have an idea: why not set up some bait to lure the Chinese agents into our ambush?"

We'll set up an ambush in a specific area beforehand, and then place several decoys there, such as lone soldiers, to lure Chinese agents into the trap. As soon as they make a move, we'll immediately blockade the area, secure the location, and make the arrest. This way, if we capture even one person alive, we can follow the trail to find the Chinese agents' hiding place and deliver a heavy blow!

Akita Akihito's eyes lit up when he heard this. It was indeed a good idea, at least much better than dealing with things everywhere and being exhausted.

He immediately said, "Iwai-kun, your idea is excellent, and I completely agree. You should immediately formulate a plan and select a suitable area for an ambush. The location cannot be too remote, which would be unfavorable for our ambush, nor can it be in our heartland, otherwise the Chinese agents will not risk taking action. You need to grasp this balance."

Then I immediately reported to the section chief, "If we can really catch these murderers, Iwai-kun, I will definitely recommend you for credit!"

"Yes, sir! I'll go and make a plan right away, please review it." Iwai Nosuke was overjoyed to hear Akita Akihito's affirmation. This was a great opportunity to show off, and he had to seize it.
