Chapter 498 Finally Showing Up

The Secret Service's offices are located in a building in the city center.

On that day, Takeshita Shinya arrived at the Detective Division, where he was greeted by Director Wen Hao and Deputy Director Cui Guangqi, who led their subordinates to meet him.

Now, the two of them are in a position of great power. Their agents have been promoted to key positions, and they directly command hundreds of subordinates. With their background in the Special Higher Police, they are considered a powerful force in Shanghai.

Wen Hao and Takeshita Shinya were very close, and their relationship had always been harmonious. He had known from Takeshita Shinya for a long time that a special agent investigation department was to be established, but he never expected that he would become the head of this department, which made him both happy and worried.

The good news was that he was highly valued by the Japanese, and his status and power were greatly enhanced. In the future, he would be in charge of a region and would no longer have to live in fear within the Special Higher Police and have to be mindful of others' opinions.

What worries me is that I've gone further and further down the path of betraying my nation, and there's no turning back. The higher my position, the more attention the Central Party Affairs Investigation Department will pay to me, and the more purges will be launched against me.

A few days ago, Yuji Imai told himself that the anti-traitor team sent by the Central Party Affairs Investigation Department to eliminate him had arrived in Shanghai. However, only one member was captured by the Military Police Headquarters. The others were still hiding in the shadows and could launch a fatal attack on him at any time. He was told to be careful. However, he had no way out now and could only follow the Japanese to the bitter end.

Today, I received a call from the Special Higher Police headquarters. The Japanese liaison officer from the Detective Division was coming to inspect the area. Upon inquiring, I learned that it was none other than Takeshita Shinya, whom I had known for a long time. I was overjoyed, and it also put my mind at ease. I knew Takeshita Shinya very well. I knew that this Takeshita-kun lacked experience and knowledge, but he managed to thrive in the Special Higher Police thanks to his background and opportunities. With him as my superior, my life would be much easier.

Choi Kwang-ki didn't know much about Takeshita Shinya. In fact, he didn't know much about the agents in the Special Higher Police. Since his arrest, he and the other agents from the intelligence station had been locked up in a large compound until a few days ago when Imai Yuji released them and announced their appointment orders.

These past few days they've been busy gathering their men and reorganizing their troops, barely having time to breathe. Just as they finished getting ready, they heard that the Japanese liaison officer was coming to inspect, so they quickly went out with Wen Hao to greet him!

Upon meeting, Takeshita Shinya was as easygoing and enthusiastic as ever, shaking hands and chatting with the two department heads before entering the office building surrounded by others.

Although Takeshita Shinya did not work in the Detective Division, Wen Hao, a seasoned official, naturally made thoughtful arrangements. He specially selected the largest room on the top floor of his office building and renovated it to serve as Takeshita Shinya's office. Whenever Takeshita Shinya came to the Detective Division, he could use it at any time. Such arrangements indeed made the newcomer to officialdom, Takeshita Shinya, very satisfied, and he praised Wen Hao highly.

After leaving the two section chiefs behind, Takeshita Shinya waved for everyone to leave.

"Sit down, everyone! We're all brothers, no need to be so formal!" Takeshita Shinya said with a smile.

"Mr. Takeshita, I will be working under you from now on, so please take good care of me!" Wen Hao said, bowing.

Cui Guangqi, who was standing nearby, immediately followed suit and bowed. He was not very familiar with Japanese etiquette and had not yet gotten used to these customs.

"I was afraid you'd feel awkward, so I didn't dare be too polite. But you two are so courteous, you're more like Japanese than I am, haha!" Takeshita Shinya said with a laugh. He waved for the two to sit down. "I'm just here to say hello today. From now on, we'll be working together. I hope we can cooperate sincerely and serve the Great Japanese Empire with utmost loyalty!"

"Yes, sir!" the two replied respectfully. Although Takeshita Shinya tried his best to show enough goodwill, they did not trust the hypocrisy of the Japanese. Even Wen Hao did not dare to be presumptuous. People's temper can change as their status rises. It was better to be sensible and not offend this Takeshita-kun over trivial matters.

After exchanging pleasantries for a while, the three of them finally got down to business. Wen Hao and Cui Guangqi gave a detailed report on their work to Takeshita Shinya and submitted their work reports for the past few days. Takeshita Shinya put away the reports and then got up to take his leave.

Wen Hao and Cui Guangqi saw Takeshita Shinya off to his car, then handed him a file folder, saying respectfully, "We hope you will take good care of us in our future work, Takeshita-kun. This is just a small token of our appreciation, please accept it!"

Takeshita Shinya's eyes flickered, and he immediately put it away. He smiled and nodded to Wen Hao before rushing back to the Special Higher Police headquarters.

Back in his office in the Special Higher Police, he quickly closed the door, went to his desk, threw the work report on it, and swiftly opened the file folder Wen Hao had given him.

Just as I expected, there was a thick stack of brand-new banknotes inside.

"Yoshi!" Takeshita Shinya immediately beamed. He poured the banknotes into his hand, gently unfolded them into a fan shape, held them up in his hand, reflecting the sunlight outside the window, his eyes full of greed!

But just then, there was a knock on the office door. Takeshita Shinya was startled. The office next door was that of his teacher, Akita Akihito. Could it be that his teacher had come to see him about something?

He quickly stuffed the banknotes into the drawer of his desk and then closed it. But in his haste, some banknotes fell to the ground. He quickly picked them up, put them in his pocket, straightened his clothes, coughed lightly, and went to open the door. It was his good-for-nothing friend, Morita Yuki.

Morita Yuki walked in a few steps, looked Takeshita Shinya up and down, and asked suspiciously, "Why did you lock the door in broad daylight?"
