Cui Guangqi smiled bitterly, bowed his head and replied, "Thank you for the reminder, team leader. I will definitely be more careful."
Looking at Pei Tai's corpse beside him, Yuji Imai asked, "Was this your bodyguard?"
"Yes, my most trusted brother, unfortunately he was also murdered!" Cui Guangqi said weakly, his face pale.
"It's a great pity!"
Then, Yuji Imai turned to Wen Hao and said, "In the future, the Detective Division should be more discerning in its key personnel to prevent such incidents from happening again."
"Yes, we will definitely conduct a self-examination and rectification campaign, and conduct more effective screening of our internal personnel. Please rest assured!"
Yuji Imai was very satisfied with Wen Hao's attitude. This Chinese man was very sensible, at least in his attitude.
"Furthermore, this matter should not be escalated, otherwise it will only embolden the enemy. Therefore, it must be handled discreetly. Issue a gag order to everyone and strictly prohibit discussing this matter in any place. Do you understand?"
"Yes, we understand!" Wen Hao and Cui Guangqi replied in unison.
Yuji Imai clearly didn't care about the lives of the two Chinese agents; what annoyed him was that, as he had expected, these Chinese agents were not trustworthy.
However, the Special Higher Police Chief, Taro Sagawa, had anticipated such a situation, so they were not surprised. They still needed to be wary of these people and not let them access important intelligence; they could only use them as peripheral forces.
"There's one more thing. Tomorrow night, Colonel Takashi Katsuta, Commander of the Shanghai Military Police Headquarters, is hosting a private banquet at his new residence. High-ranking officials from the military and government will be attending. The section chief and I will both be there. The security for the entire event will be handled by our Special Higher Police Section and the Military Police. We're short-handed, and your Detective Division will also be responsible for some of the security work. However, your current state makes me very uneasy. I'm warning you, if anything goes wrong in this mission, you will be severely punished! Understand?"
"Understood! Your subordinates will do their utmost and ensure there are no accidents!" Wen Hao and Cui Guangqi both bowed and said quickly.
Yuji Imai waved, and Shinya Takeshita followed closely behind. The two of them left quickly, and Wen Hao and the others saw them off until Yuji Imai and his group drove away.
Wen Hao and Cui Guangqi breathed a sigh of relief. They had thought they would be severely reprimanded or even punished by Imai Yuji, but they did not expect that Imai Yuji had only come to make a show of it and did not intend to punish them.
Wen Hao turned to Cui Guangqi and said with a smile, "Deputy Director Cui, you don't look well. Get some rest. You don't need to participate in the security operation tomorrow night!"
Cui Guangqi's face immediately darkened, and he said indifferently, "I am in good health and can fully handle tomorrow's task. Thank you for your concern, Director!"
After saying that, he turned and left quickly. In Cui Guangqi's opinion, Wen Hao was deliberately trying to get rid of him. If he was absent from such an important mission, he didn't know if this bastard would stir up trouble in front of the Japanese! The more important it was, the more he had to persevere and not let others see that he was weak and helpless.
Wen Hao was displeased when he saw Cui Guangqi leave. He had originally offered gentle words of comfort because he felt sorry for Cui Guangqi's plight, but he did not expect Cui Guangqi to leave with a sour face.
"That bastard, he doesn't know what's good for him!" Wen Hao cursed inwardly.
