Chapter 607 Guessing the Reason

After Ning Zhiheng and He Siming separated, he was still worried. He needed to make an accurate judgment based on the information reported by He Siming from all sides.

He immediately sent a telegram to Huo Yueze in the foreign concession, instructing him to enter Shanghai city as soon as possible and report the situation to him in person.

After receiving the order, Huo Yueze dared not delay. This was the first time the section chief had asked him to enter the Shanghai city area to report on his work, so something important must have happened.

He arranged for a boat to cross the Suzhou River overnight and met Ning Zhiheng in a safe house.

Upon seeing Huo Yueze, Ning Zhiheng didn't linger but immediately asked, "Yueze, does our intelligence department have any important operations planned for the near future?"

Ning Zhiheng's words startled Huo Yueze, who quickly replied, "Chief, if our intelligence department has any major operations, I will definitely consult you first and would never dare to act on my own."

Ning Zhiheng nodded. He knew that Huo Yueze was telling the truth. He was very strict with his subordinates, and they would not dare to act without his orders.

"Is there anything unusual in the French Concession, especially regarding Wang Hanmin and Duan Tiecheng? Have they been behaving strangely lately?" Ning Zhiheng asked again.

"Chief, they've been making quite a stir these past few days." Huo Yueze had been monitoring the Shanghai station for some time, and their actions were so significant that they were hard to hide from those who were interested.

"Tell me in detail!" Ning Zhiheng was startled; he felt he needed to find out what was wrong.

“In the past few days, two unfamiliar faces have appeared at Wang Hanmin’s intelligence agency, which is apartment number 57 on Yannan Road. We have never seen them before. Also, a lot of young men have suddenly appeared at their Yonghe Trading Company, and the number has been increasing over the past few days. It is estimated that the Shanghai station has added at least one hundred people in the past few days.”

"So many more people? What are they planning to do?" Ning Zhiheng was even more surprised and uncertain. He had already vaguely guessed the answer in his heart.

“The specific reasons are still unclear,” Huo Yueze glanced at Ning Zhiheng. “We have received an important message from the Americans that just two days ago, someone purchased a large quantity of weapons from them, including light machine guns and TNT. They are planning something big.”

Upon hearing this, Ning Zhiheng angrily slammed his hand on the table, causing it to shake violently and nearly fall apart.

"These idiots! Have they gone mad? They're stupid enough to think they can solve this with force. What is Duan Tiecheng good for? Is this all the intelligence department can do?"

Ning Zhiheng's voice was somewhat agitated. Although he tried to suppress it, his dissatisfaction was all too clear.

Now everything has an answer. Based on intelligence from all sides, it is not difficult to see that the Shanghai station first mobilized a large number of personnel from the periphery, and then purchased a large amount of weapons and explosives.

These people are actually planning to take strong measures in the near future, intending to directly attack the library building and complete the task of destroying legal tender.

What a foolish move! The library building was located in the heart of the Japanese territory, heavily guarded and heavily defended, surrounded by Japanese military units. Attacking this location head-on would be suicide no matter how many people went, let alone accomplishing the mission.

Duan Tiecheng had followed Bian Ze for many years and was considered an experienced veteran agent in the Military Intelligence Bureau. However, his performance in action greatly displeased Ning Zhiheng.

More importantly, all indications suggest that the Shanghai station's operation has likely caught the attention of the Japanese. If Ning Zhiheng's assessment is correct, Sagawa Taro has prepared a large net, waiting for the Shanghai station's agents to fall into it. It is a deadly trap; falling into it means certain death. However, the Shanghai station is completely unaware of this and is preparing for battle, eager to try.

Huo Yueze was taken aback by Ning Zhiheng's sudden outburst of anger; he didn't understand why the section chief was so agitated.

"Chief, Duan Tiecheng and his men are going all in. It seems they haven't come up with any effective methods and have resorted to this." Huo Yueze said softly.

Ning Zhiheng was extremely anxious at this moment; he hadn't expected things to turn out this way!

He had done all the intelligence preparations, found out the responsible unit and specific person in charge of the Japanese printing of legal tender, and even found the exact location of the legal tender. He just wanted these people to take action. But the result was that a whole month had passed, and these fools actually wanted to solve the problem by force. What was even more foolish was that before they even took action, they leaked the operation plan and put their own heads in the enemy's guns.

Duan Tiecheng and Wang Hanmin's performance in this operation utterly disappointed Ning Zhiheng, proving once again that his previous approach was correct: there should be absolutely no horizontal contact with the Shanghai station in the future, otherwise something big would happen sooner or later.

Ning Zhiheng took a deep breath to calm himself down and said slowly, "According to reliable sources, the Japanese Special Higher Police are currently on high alert. Many of their personnel are missing. Sagawa Taro is carrying out a major operation, and the target should be Wang Hanmin's Shanghai station."

Wang Hanmin was too careless. If they had stayed in the French Concession, the Japanese wouldn't have had a chance to take them down so easily. But once they entered downtown Shanghai, the consequences for them were obvious. We must remind them and make them abandon this foolish plan!

Huo Yueze was also shocked to hear this. If Ning Zhiheng's description was true, then Shanghai Station was likely to suffer a great loss this time, and might even be wiped out again.
