Chapter 725 Heading to Wuhan

On the surface, Ning Zhiheng's trip to Wuhan was to visit Uehara Junpei and deliver the printed manuscript to Wuhan. In reality, however, it was for the sake of that mole.

He spent a fortune to buy the mole from Miller and was about to set up intelligence channels to work with him. The mole was very valuable, and he dared not entrust the task to others; he wanted to arrange it himself.

Finally, he hoped to use his relationship with Uehara Junpei to try to contact the intelligence department of the Central China Area Army to see if there was any chance to find the traitor who leaked the defense plan for northern Jiangxi and eliminate this dangerous threat.

With everything arranged, Ning Zhiheng and his guards boarded the train bound for Nanjing.

At this point, he could have taken a plane directly to Wuhan, which would have only taken a few hours. However, unless there were special circumstances and he needed to rush, Ning Zhiheng would not take a plane, mainly because current passenger planes are not very safe and the turbulence is severe.

After the train entered Nanjing, they transferred to a ship to travel down the Yangtze River to Wuhan. The journey took three days, and that was only for the transport personnel. If everything went smoothly, this gave Ning Zhiheng quite a headache.

Three days later, the ship docked in Hankou. The group disembarked and were greeted by Uehara Junpei, who had been waiting for them since being notified by telegram.

"uncle!"

"Zhiren!"

Ning Zhiheng bowed respectfully, and Uehara Junpei, beaming, grabbed Ning Zhiheng's arm and said, "I've been looking forward to your arrival since I received your telegram. You must have had a long journey!"

Ning Zhiheng said with a smile, "Fortunately, the journey was smooth. I'm sorry to have worried you!"

After exchanging a few words, the group got into the car and headed to downtown Wuhan.

The uncle and nephew sat in the back seat of the car. Uehara Junpei asked in a low voice, "The security situation in Shanghai is very bad right now. I've been worried that you might encounter danger again. I heard that you were attacked again before?"

Despite the deliberate cover-up by various parties, not many people knew about the events in Suzhou. However, as the head of the intelligence department, Uehara Junpei was not kept in the dark.

Ning Zhiheng said helplessly, "Yes, the situation was very dangerous at the time. Fortunately, I was lucky, but all three of my bodyguards were shot and killed. Those desperate criminals!"

Uehara Junpei smiled and comforted him, "That was an accident, but I heard the culprit hasn't been caught yet?"

Junpei Uehara was well-informed and naturally had spies in Shanghai as well.

Ning Zhiheng didn't need to hide anything from Uehara Junpei. He answered softly, "The assassin has been dealt with. It was one of Tsuchihara Keiji's men who was hiding him. Fortunately, I discovered him."

Then he told Uehara Junpei about Kitaoka Ryoko, but only that Kitaoka Ryoko intended to threaten him with the murder of a garrison officer, which forced him to eliminate Kitaoka Ryoko and Hirayama Jiro.

Although Uehara Junpei was not in Shanghai, he had guessed some of the inside story. Now, hearing Ning Zhiheng's account, which was almost identical to his guess, he nodded and said, "You did well. You should be decisive and not hesitate. These people are insubordinate and have no bottom line. They deserve to be taught a lesson. But now there is no problem. Tsuchihara-kun has retreated to North China, and Shanghai is still ours. We can avoid a lot of trouble in the future."

Uehara Junpei and Tsuchihara Keiji were old classmates and had a fairly good relationship, but when it came to the greater good, they couldn't care less about such things.

"The current chaos in Shanghai is all the work of Chinese agents. They are frantically assassinating officials of the new government. I was assassinated by them once before, and I almost died. I am really scared this time, so I came to Wuhan to visit my uncle and also to avoid the storm."

Ning Zhiheng spoke frankly, which made Uehara Junpei smile. He knew that his nephew was very unlucky, having been assassinated one after another, and even he himself had to be on tenterhooks.

"Yes, it's a sensitive time right now. It's good for you to get away for a while. Although Wuhan can't compare to Shanghai, it's still one of the most prosperous metropolises in China. You can come here to take a good look around, relax, and give yourself a break!"

Ning Zhiheng nodded and smiled, "Then I'll have to trouble you. I'll stay here a while longer and relax!"
