Three days later, at 4 p.m., Ning Zhiheng arrived at the Harbour Pier in Hong Kong. Shen Xiang, the head of the intelligence team and president of the Hong Kong branch of the Fujiwara Company, came to pick him up with several intelligence personnel.
Upon seeing Ning Zhiheng appear from afar, Shen Xiang quickly stepped forward, took the suitcase from Ning Zhiheng's hand, and said with a smile, "President, you must be tired from your journey."
Ning Zhiheng nodded, looked around, and asked in a low voice, "Have Jiacheng and the others arrived?"
Several days earlier, when Ning Zhiheng received a notice from headquarters to return to Chongqing, he ordered Sun Jiacheng to take Tan Jinhui to Hong Kong to await orders. They would meet in Hong Kong and exchange identities.
Shen Xiang hurriedly replied, "It has arrived. It was brought by a military special plane yesterday. I arranged for it to remain hidden in the villa, just waiting for your arrival."
Ning Zhiheng nodded in satisfaction: "Very good, Bojun, thank you for your hard work!"
Ning Zhiheng got into the arranged car and drove towards his residence in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong had changed a lot since his last visit. The roads were much wider and the buildings around the city were much denser. On the way from the pier to his residence, Ning Zhiheng could clearly feel that the city was transforming into an international metropolis.
"It truly is a pristine land untouched by war, and its development is progressing rapidly. It's remarkable!" Ning Zhiheng exclaimed, looking out the window.
As a transit point for Far East shipping, Hong Kong's geographical location is extremely important. Known as the Pearl of the Orient, it is also China's window to the Western world. Because it was within the British sphere of influence, the Japanese could not easily take over, which made its status even more important. Now it almost carries all the material supplies for mainland China, which has led to its extremely rapid economic development.
Fujiwara Company also used Hong Kong as an important business channel to conduct large-scale procurement and transportation of materials. The Hong Kong branch was the second most important branch after the Shanghai headquarters.
Hearing Ning Zhiheng's exclamation, Shen Xiang chimed in, "Yes! Hong Kong has changed a lot. This road was just renovated and maintained this year. Not only that, the entire city has expanded, and the population is increasing rapidly, mainly because more and more people are fleeing from the Japanese-occupied areas."
At this point, Shen Xiang glanced at Ning Zhiheng's expression and continued, "Chief, in Hong Kong right now, the Chinese people are quite hostile towards our Fujiwara Company brand. If it weren't for the British authorities not daring to offend the Japanese and protecting us, we would be in a very difficult situation!"
Hearing this, Ning Zhiheng was speechless. His branch in Hong Kong was just a Japanese company with Chinese employees from top to bottom, continuously supplying various strategic materials to China's anti-Japanese forces. Now, however, he was being ostracized by the Chinese. But he had no choice in this situation. The Fujiwara Company sign still had to be displayed; he needed it as a shield.
Ning Zhiheng said in a deep voice, "Just like I said before, keep a low profile, keep a low profile, don't expand your business. There are so many trading companies in Hong Kong, as long as you don't make a big fuss, there won't be any problems. You still need to keep this signboard. The Japanese won't just stand by and watch such an important port city as Hong Kong get out of control. It's only a matter of time before they take action against it."
"The Japanese are going to take action against Hong Kong?" Shen Xiang asked in surprise. "This is British territory. Do they really dare to act recklessly?"
"Hmph! The British, it won't be long before they can even take care of themselves, let alone this little place like Hong Kong!" Ning Zhiheng said coldly.
The international situation is about to undergo a major change, and all Western powers will be drawn into this vortex, including the British.
Ning Zhiheng ignored Shen Xiang's surprised and uncertain expression. He changed the subject and turned to ask, "Has the flight to Chongqing been arranged?"
Upon hearing this, Shen Xiang immediately perked up and said, "It's all arranged. It's the military special plane that brought Sun Jiacheng and the others here. It's waiting here for your instructions. However, it needs to take off at night. The Japanese pose a great threat to Chongqing's airspace, and only by flying at night can we ensure flight safety to the greatest extent possible."
Ning Zhiheng nodded and said, "Very good, make the arrangements immediately. Fly to Chongqing tonight. Headquarters has already sent a telegram urging us to hurry up. We can't delay even for a day!"
"Tonight?" Shen Xiang was taken aback. He hadn't expected Ning Zhiheng to be in such a hurry. "I've already arranged a welcome dinner for you tonight. You've had a long journey and just arrived in Hong Kong, so please rest for a day. Tomorrow..."
Before he could finish speaking, he saw Ning Zhiheng's brows furrow, so he quickly changed his words and said, "Yes, I'll arrange it right away. We'll fly to Chongqing tonight."
The vehicle soon arrived at a luxury villa. This was a residence that Shen Xiang had specially purchased for Ning Zhiheng in Hong Kong. The location was secluded and quiet, and the surrounding land had all been bought up. All the unauthorized residents in the vicinity had been cleared out, so there were no safety issues.
Ning Zhiheng got out of the car and quickly followed Shen Xiang into the courtyard. At this moment, they heard the noise inside the house. The door opened, and a figure flashed out and walked quickly towards Ning Zhiheng.
Ning Zhiheng looked up and saw that it was his trusted confidant, Sun Jiacheng. The two had been separated for almost a year, and this meeting made them both very excited.
Ning Zhiheng stepped forward and grasped Sun Jiacheng's hand. The two embraced gently for a moment before separating.
Ning Zhiheng looked Sun Jiacheng up and down and said with emotion, "Old Sun, you haven't changed at all after all this time apart. How have you been doing in Chongqing?"
Sun Jiacheng nodded and smiled, "I stayed in the rear, which was fine, but the Japanese planes bombed every few days, so life wasn't peaceful."
