Chapter 780 An Unexpected Incident

The capture of Song Anxian went very smoothly. For the agents of the Second Operations Division, it was no challenge at all. They scaled the wall, broke down the door, and stormed in. Song Anxian, who was defenseless, was caught off guard and subdued.

The officers handcuffed Song Anxian, who was trying to struggle, gagged her, took her outside, and shoved her into a car.

Shao Wenguang turned to Hong Li and instructed, "I'll take some men back to report first. You stay here and immediately search this residence for any suspicious items, then seal it off!"

"Yes!" Hong Li nodded in agreement!

Shao Wenguang climbed into the car, closed the door, and the vehicle sped away.

Unbeknownst to them, as Song Anxian was being escorted into the car, a middle-aged woman carrying a basket was hiding behind a tree not far away. She was so frightened that she covered her mouth with her hand, not daring to make a sound, and watched the departing vehicle. Then, she realized what was happening and turned to run away.

Shao Wenguang quickly brought Song Anxian back to the Second Division and went directly into the interrogation room, where Ning Zhiheng had just finished a round of torture.

"Chief, Song Anxian has been brought back. What do you think..."

Ning Zhiheng nodded, put the interrogation record aside, and said, "Bring him in. It'll be good for this Mrs. Xia to see him. Maybe it'll save us some trouble!"

Still shaken, Song Anxian was wheeled into the interrogation room. In this unfamiliar environment, she nervously looked around. The room was very large, with a ceiling half again as high as that of an ordinary house. Various torture instruments hung on the walls. The entire room was completely sealed off, without even a window. Only an incandescent light bulb hung in the air, making it dim, gloomy, and terrifying. A strong smell of blood permeated the air, and Song Anxian almost vomited when she first smelled it.

In the middle of the house stood a thick wooden stake, to which was bound a bloodied and mangled body. Two burly men poured a basin of cold water on the body. The ground was wet and covered in blood. The atmosphere in the room was dark and gloomy, like a living hell.

At this point, Song Anxian was so frightened that she was completely disoriented and her legs were weak. She had grown up in a privileged family and had never experienced anything like this before.

At this moment, a burly man wearing military boots walked over, his boots making a loud slapping sound as he stepped on the blood. He removed the gag from Song Anxian's mouth, then pushed her to an interrogation table and pressed her down into a chair.

Looking up, behind the interrogation table sat a young man in a Zhongshan suit, tapping a pen on the table and gently turning it back and forth. His cold, sharp gaze was fixed on Song Anxian, as if he could see right through her!

After a long pause, the young man finally spoke, asking, "Madam Xia, you've never been to a place like this before, have you?"

Song Anxian subconsciously shook her head, forcing herself to remain calm as she asked, "Who are you people, and why are you arresting me?"

"Madam Xia, let's not beat around the bush. This is the Second Operations Division of the Military Intelligence Bureau. I am Ning Zhiheng, the head of the Second Division. Oh, by the way, your husband, Staff Officer Xia, is also here. Now you should understand why I invited you here, right?"

Upon hearing this, Song Anxian immediately knew what had happened. Her husband, Xia Bin, was suspected of being a Japanese spy and had been involved in a major case. He had been detained by the Military Intelligence Bureau for over a month, and she hadn't even been allowed to visit him. His fate was still unknown. She never imagined that these spies would even arrest her as well.

"I don't understand what you're trying to do! It's not enough that you've framed my husband; now you want to arrest me too! This is outrageous!"

Ning Zhiheng frowned at Song Anxian's words and couldn't help but sneer inwardly. To dare to speak to him in this interrogation room, Song Anxian certainly had guts.

He was too lazy to waste any more words with her and asked directly, "Mrs. Xia, I won't waste any more time on nonsense. Let's get straight to the point. I only have one question for you. If you answer me honestly, I will let you go immediately."

Song Anxian just stared stubbornly at Ning Zhiheng without saying a word.

Ning Zhiheng then asked, "Do you know someone named Ji Yongyan?"

Upon hearing the name "Ji Yongyan," Song Anxian was taken aback. Her gaze clearly showed surprise, indicating that she had not received any training in this area. Her subconscious action immediately alerted Ning Zhiheng, who knew that Song Anxian must know this name.

"I don't know this person!"

Song Anxian's answer was exactly what Ning Zhiheng expected; she still needed to use some methods.

Ning Zhiheng gave a cold laugh, tossed his pen onto the table, and said unhurriedly, "It seems our Military Intelligence Bureau's reputation isn't working! Madam Xia, I advise you to tell the truth, you see…"

At this point, Ning Zhiheng pointed behind Song Anxian. Song Anxian turned around and saw a burly man grabbing the hair of the prisoner tied to the wooden stake and revealing the prisoner's face.

This was a haggard woman, her face covered in wounds, blood dripping from the corner of her mouth, her body a bloody mess, her pitiful appearance making Song Anxian's heart tremble.

"This woman is called Aunt Cheng Liu. She lives near your house. I think you might even know her. When we were investigating the Japanese spy, she not only deliberately concealed his whereabouts and provided him with hiding places, but she also tipped off the Japanese. I warned her to answer my questions honestly, otherwise she wouldn't be able to bear the consequences. Unfortunately, she ignored me. When she was passing messages to the Japanese, we caught her red-handed. You see, this is her fate. She can't blame me! Madam Xia, Madam Xia..."

Song Anxian, who was already terrified by the scene, was brought back to her senses by Ning Zhiheng's voice and then turned to look at Ning Zhiheng cautiously.
