The two rickshaw pullers looked at the photo and quickly recognized it, nodding in unison.
Upon seeing this, Ning Zhiheng immediately asked, "Do you recognize her?"
The older driver replied, "We don't know her name, but we often see her when we're waiting for passengers at the intersection. She's Wei San's boss and has hired Wei San's rickshaw."
Wei San? That must be Zhang Fangwen's driver. Ning Zhiheng then asked, "Is Wei San also one of your companions? When did this woman hire him?"
"He's kind of our colleague. We work at the same car dealership, but he's only been in the business for six months. He's incredibly lucky though. He found this job not long after he started driving a car, and that lady booked his car. His monthly commission is more than what we both earn combined."
This makes sense. Wei San joined the car dealership specifically to work with Zhang Fangwen, and then naturally followed her around to facilitate receiving her leadership. He was probably in a role similar to an assistant or bodyguard.
Where is Wei San now?
"I don't know. She usually waits for her master at the intersection. She's that pretty young lady. She goes back after dark. Did she take her master out with her? We only greet her when we meet. She's not like us. She rarely talks. She only says a few words when she's waiting for business and is really bored."
The two drivers weren't always at the intersection, so they didn't know Wei San's whereabouts. Ning Zhiheng asked directly, "Do you know where Wei San lives?"
The two drivers shook their heads and replied, "We really don't know. He might live nearby. He always leaves very late, after dark, but we don't know exactly where he lives."
Ning Zhiheng thought for a moment, then asked, "Which car dealership are you? Where is it located?"
As far as he knew, rickshaw pullers who used the rickshaw companies could usually take their rickshaws back to their homes at night. In this way, the rickshaw companies would register the rickshaw pullers' addresses to prevent any pullers from running away with their rickshaws. Ning Zhiheng needed to find Wei San's address from the rickshaw companies.
“Yunlai Car Rental is just two blocks away from here. All the rickshaws in Daping District follow Yunlai Car Rental. Other car rental companies don’t dare to pick up passengers here.”
Upon hearing this, Ning Zhiheng felt that the name of the car dealership sounded familiar. When he first joined the Military Intelligence Bureau, the car dealership opened by Liu Yong and others, who were part of the peripheral forces he deployed in Nanjing, was called Yunlai Car Dealership.
He asked again, "What's the owner's name at Yunlai Auto Shop?"
"Liu Yong, the head manager is called Liu Yong. This Manager Liu is a remarkable figure, with connections everywhere. It is said that he is on friendly terms with the big shots in the police headquarters. Back then, when he was fighting with those thugs for territory, he even had to send the police to help him. That's how he managed to take over this territory. Now, even the rickshaws in Yuzhong District are all doing business with Yunlai Car Rental."
Ning Zhiheng was taken aback. It really was Liu Yong's business. He hadn't expected it to come to his subordinate's door. Without saying a word, he waved his hand and said, "Lead the way, we'll go to the car dealership."
It was already getting late, and the two rickshaw pullers were about to finish their work when they heard Ning Zhiheng's instructions. They didn't dare to delay and led the way. The group quickly arrived at Yunlai Carriage Shop.
Yunlai Auto Dealership is now the largest auto dealership in Chongqing. This dealership is just a branch of Yunlai Auto Dealership. When Manager Chen of the branch saw a convoy of cars drive into the yard, he was surprised and quickly led people out to greet them.
The vehicle opened, and a group of people got out. Upon seeing them, Manager Chen's eyelids twitched in fright.
Manager Chen and his men were all well-acquainted with the people on the street, and they had a keen eye. They could guess what kind of people someone was at a glance. With so many cars in front of them and these uniformly dressed young men exuding a subdued aura, he quickly guessed the identities of the newcomers and hurriedly bowed and waited to the side.
At this moment, the last car door was opened, and a young man stepped out of the car. He glanced around and then looked at Manager Chen.
Manager Chen could hardly believe his eyes. He quickly stepped forward and bowed deeply to Ning Zhiheng.
"Commander Ning? No, Section Chief, what brings you here?"
This Manager Chen was a close brother of Liu Yong who had followed him during the Nanjing period. He had met Ning Zhiheng when Ning Zhiheng went to the car dealership and knew that this young man was the boss behind them. So he remembered him well. Later, in order to support Liu Datong's promotion to the head of the Xicheng District Police Station, Ning Zhiheng attended several banquets. Manager Chen, as a subordinate, was always there to do his bidding. So he knew Ning Zhiheng.
Upon hearing Manager Chen's form of address and hearing his Nanjing accent, Ning Zhiheng knew this was someone from the past. However, he genuinely couldn't remember the man's name, so he could only smile and nod, asking, "You, your name is…"
"Chen Xing, a brother who ate with Brother Liu back in Nanjing."
“Yes, yes, I remember you.” Ning Zhiheng patted Chen Xing on the shoulder. “I have something to ask you today.”
Ning Zhiheng didn't waste any time. Since Wei San was his subordinate, he saved himself the trouble of talking and directly ordered Chen Xing to investigate Wei San's residence.
Chen Xing didn't dare to delay and immediately found the register. He quickly located Wei San's registration information, which included not only Wei San's address but also a half-body photo of him.
Ning Zhiheng turned around and called Yu Cheng over, handed him the registration materials, and instructed him: "Take some men and arrest the person at this address. If the person has already fled, search the residence and see if there is anything of value."
In fact, based on Ning Zhiheng's judgment, since Wei San was Zhang Fangwen's accomplice, he should have already left. Yu Cheng's trip was probably in vain. However, going to the residence to make the arrest was a necessary step. He would not be satisfied until he saw it.
