Late that night, Zhao Jiang's action team launched a sudden arrest operation based on the list of people provided by Liu Datong. They quickly apprehended seven key members of Shunyuantang and six thugs who had participated in injuring Ning Zhiming.
After throwing these people into the interrogation department, Zhao Jiang, following Ning Zhiheng's instructions, used various methods of torture to quickly fabricate the necessary confessions and submitted them to Ning Zhiheng, reporting, "Chief, these have all been signed and sealed, and there are no procedural problems."
"Tell me the specifics."
Ning Zhiheng took the statement and tossed it aside. He had no interest in these minor characters; if it weren't for his younger brother, he wouldn't even bother to glance at them.
Zhao Jiang continued his report: "The leader of Shunyuantang is named Ding Kang. According to his confession, he was unaware of the incident of slashing Zhiming. On the contrary, because he had been arrested by Director Liu before, he specifically warned his subordinates not to provoke students from Jinling University again."
However, because the thug Zhiming killed was the cousin of the leader of the Fifth Platoon of Shun Yuan Tang, all the subsequent events were orchestrated by the Fifth Platoon.
Ning Zhiheng asked, somewhat bewildered, "Five-man squad?"
Zhao Jiang quickly explained, "It's the title of the head of the gang. Usually, under the leader, there are several other leaders, such as the third and fifth ranks. The fifth rank is the leader who specifically manages the gang's thugs. The fifth rank of Shun Yuan Gang is called Sha Daqing."
Upon hearing this, Ning Zhiheng's murderous intent flared, and he asked coldly, "Sha Daqing? Has this person given a clear explanation?"
"He confessed without hesitation! It was indeed him who ordered a few of his thugs to do it."
It seems that it was indeed just revenge because of Ning Zhiming himself, so Ning Zhiheng didn't want to get entangled in the matter anymore. However, he still wanted to know more about Qian Zhong, as he might need it in the future.
"What did they confess about Qian Zhong?"
Since these people are under Qian Zhong's protection, and Qian Zhong is a greedy man, there must be some kind of business dealings between them.
"Ding Kang confessed that they would hand over 30% of the income from the opium den and casino to Qian Zhong every month. They would also run errands for Qian Zhong and do other things for him. At first, this kid was not honest and spoke haltingly. Later, I interrogated the other leaders separately and found out that they had been robbing and killing refugees from other places who had come to the country and were quite wealthy. They had more than a dozen murder cases on their hands. These people were all targets selected by Qian Zhong."
Ning Zhiheng was immediately shocked upon hearing this. He knew that Qian Zhong was greedy for money, but murder was unacceptable, especially killing so many people. He asked in a deep voice, "What were Qian Zhong's targets? Why?"
Zhao Jiang quickly revealed the inside story: it turned out that Qian Zhong was indeed worthy of his surname, and he would do anything for money.
He noticed that many refugees from various places carried numerous family heirlooms and antiques. Being quick-witted, he took over an antique pawnshop, specializing in buying these items at low prices. However, his pawnshop offered extremely low prices, and many people brought their treasures but couldn't agree on a price, resulting in failed deals and the valuable items being exposed. When he encountered truly precious items, Qian Zhong, unwilling to pay a high price yet also unwilling to miss out on the treasure, would send people to watch these individuals and then dispatch members of the Shun Yuan Tang to murder them for their money. He obtained the desired treasures without spending a single copper coin. This practice became increasingly successful, resulting in the deaths of many people within a year, some even involving the extermination of entire families.
"Bastard! This is utterly depraved!" Ning Zhiheng slammed his hand on the table, unable to hold back his curses. This Qian Zhong had actually done such a horrifying thing for money; he was completely devoid of conscience.
It seems this person must be eliminated. If it were just greed, Ning Zhiheng would turn a blind eye, but so many lives have been lost, which has crossed the line that Ning Zhiheng can tolerate. Perhaps he has to be the villain for once.
Furthermore, if it weren't for him acting as a protector for the Shun Yuan Tang people and getting the police to release them, these people wouldn't have been released, and in the end, he almost killed his own underling. The more Ning Zhiheng thought about it, the angrier he became. This person absolutely cannot be allowed to live.
However, Qian Zhong was, after all, the head of the intelligence group of the Military Intelligence Bureau, and also the director's fellow townsman and close confidant. It would not be an easy thing to take him down. He still needed to make some plans to leave everyone speechless.
