This was Guan Han's first time visiting a real estate agency. For safety reasons, he only visited each agency once. Once he moved locations, he would go to a new agency to look for properties. There were plenty of such agencies in the Shanghai Concession, enough for him to choose from.
Guan Han looked up at the signboard, then stepped forward and pushed open the door. Inside, he saw a large hall where many people were already gathered, some talking in hushed tones, others carefully examining the notices on the walls.
Several real estate agents were moving among them, explaining things to customers from time to time. Guan Han didn't go directly to an agent, but instead went to the wall, carefully looked at the house notices, and searched diligently.
Before long, his eyes lit up, and he quickly found a house that met his requirements. It was located in a relatively remote area and was large enough to house the team members in one place, thus avoiding the problem of the team members being scattered and difficult to manage. This greatly ensured their safety.
Guan Han was overjoyed. Such properties are usually hard to find. He often spends a lot of time searching through various real estate companies, sometimes for several days without finding a single one. But today, he was really lucky.
Guan Han immediately grabbed a real estate agent, pointed to a listing on the notice board, and asked, "Young man, is this house still available?"
The real estate agent, a young man speaking with a strong Shanghai accent, quickly nodded and replied, "It's still available. It was just listed the day before yesterday. Sir, you have a good eye. Properties like this are hard to find normally. In the concession area now, there aren't many properties this large. Don't let the slightly out-of-the-way location fool you; it's perfect for opening a small factory or workshop. You'll make your money back in no time. Let me tell you, if you don't rent now, it'll be gone in a day..."
This real estate agent was eloquent and spoke fluently, quickly praising the property to the skies, as if customers would be throwing money away if they didn't rent it from him.
Guan Han didn't say much, but interrupted him directly, saying, "Alright, I think it looks nice, but I should at least see the house!"
The real estate agent was overjoyed to see that Guan Han was indeed interested in renting the property. The apartment was quite large, and the transaction amount would be substantial, ensuring his commission. He quickly nodded, greeted the manager, and led Guan Han out of the lobby.
Once outside, he waved to a rickshaw that was waiting nearby and said, "This place is a bit far. It's near that sandy area on the west side of the concession. We'll have to walk for a while."
Guan Han smiled and nodded without saying anything more. The two of them got into two rickshaws and headed west. When they arrived at their destination, they got off.
Guan Han looked around and saw that there were no large buildings around, only low tiled houses. There were far fewer pedestrians on the road, and most of them were wearing coarse cloth and short clothes, obviously ordinary people. He couldn't help but nod to himself, this location suited his taste very well.
The agent led Guan Han for a while, and soon they arrived at the gate of a large courtyard. Just then, the gate suddenly opened, and two men in suits walked out quickly.
A middle-aged man with a grim face walked along, cursing incessantly in a thick Tianjin accent, clearly a northern accent.
A young man beside him was also dressed in a business suit, and his attire was very similar to that of the real estate agent next to Guan Han. He was also carrying a file folder. The two seemed to be in the same industry. The young man kept persuading the middle-aged man and pulled him out.
"Who are these people? They need to ask where we're from to rent a place? What, can't we Tianjin people rent apartments in Shanghai? I wouldn't even look at this shabby place! Ugh, ptooey!"
The middle-aged man was furious and stomped his feet while cursing a few times. Only after being persuaded by the man next to him did he leave indignantly.
Seeing this, Guan Han asked the real estate agent in a strange low voice, "What, are landlords here so picky about finding tenants?"
The real estate agent was also baffled, shrugged and shook his head, indicating that he didn't know either.
While they were speculating outside, in one of the rooms in the courtyard, a man dressed in shorts turned to a man beside him and asked, "Is this really not the one? This is the fourth tenant to come here. I don't even know what excuse I'll use to kick the next one out!"
