Chapter Ninety: Extremely Critical

Inside the Zhongkang Traditional Chinese Medicine store, a young man who had taken off his beggar's clothes said to Wu Quanjiang, "Old Wu, Qingshan has ordered that you have been exposed and must be moved immediately. The enemy will arrest you soon."

Wu Quanjiang was shocked! He had seen the young man who climbed over the wall before; he was one of the people specifically responsible for protecting Fang Boyi.

"How can I trust you?" Wu Quanjiang asked calmly, without panicking.

The young man pulled a note from his collar and handed it to Wu Quanjiang.

When Wu Quanjiang arrived, he saw a note that read: "Kuquan, you have been exposed. Immediately follow the messenger and move before dawn. It's extremely urgent! Qingshan!"

Looking at the familiar handwriting and the signature at the end, there was no mistake; it was Qingshan's own handwriting! Very few people knew the code name "Qingshan"! As for "Kuquan," that was his code name!

The news is true! I've actually been exposed? The situation has become so serious, and I was completely unaware.

"We received this intelligence too late. The enemy has already placed you under full surveillance. I observed when I came that there were agents monitoring both the front and back doors of the pharmacy. I also left two comrades outside to provide backup. If necessary, we'll force our way in! We must act immediately; time is of the essence!" the young man, Ding Yuan, said anxiously.

"Don't panic. The enemy is still monitoring us and hasn't made a move yet, which means I can still get out. As long as they don't receive orders to arrest me, they won't force their way out!"

"We'll disguise ourselves as shop assistants and go straight in through the front door. Even if they suspect us, they'll just follow us, not attack. Once we reach Zhang's Grocery Store at the street corner, we'll go inside. There's a back door in the backyard of the store, leading to a narrow alley that leads directly to the slums. The roads there are winding and the terrain is complicated. That should be enough to shake them off!" Wu Quanjiang said in a deep voice.

He was a veteran who had weathered many storms, and he remained calm in the face of danger, quickly devising an evacuation plan.

Wu Quanjiang found two sets of pharmacy clerk's clothes, and the two of them quickly changed into them. They also found two felt hats to wear before opening the pharmacy door and walking out of Zhongkang Pharmacy as if nothing had happened.

At the same time, the head of the secret service, who had been monitoring the pharmacy across the street, immediately noticed the unusual situation and shouted to the back room, "A clerk has come out of the pharmacy, but his face is new. I haven't seen him in the past few days!"

Immediately, the intelligence agents from the Party Affairs Investigation Department who were resting in the back rooms rushed out upon hearing the news.

The lead agent carefully examined the two men dressed as shop assistants. Although Wu Quanjiang and Ding Yuan had their hats pulled low, the agents from the Party Affairs Investigation Department had thoroughly investigated the people inside and outside the pharmacy during this period of surveillance, and these two were indeed not among the shop assistants. Moreover, one of the shop assistants appeared to be older, and seemed to be the target, Wu Quanjiang.

"It's Wu Quanjiang! What's he planning to do dressed like that at this time?"

"Could he be going out to meet with his accomplices? Otherwise, why would he be dressed like that? Captain, we've been watching for so many days, and finally there's some news!"

They were all trained professional agents, and Wu Quanjiang's disguise did not fool them!

Zheng Mingshan, the deputy captain of the leading action team, was mainly responsible for monitoring Wu Quanjiang. He was quite pleased to see this situation, as more than ten days of surveillance had yielded no results.

Wu Quanjiang had not contacted any other underground party members in the past ten days. His unusual appearance today must mean that the situation has changed. If we continue to investigate, we can find new targets.

"Same as always, two people stay behind to keep watch, the rest of you come with me." Zheng Mingshan quickly made the arrangements, and after assigning the manpower, he was ready to leave.

At that moment, the telephone in the room rang. This telephone was a special line set up to monitor Wu Quanjiang, enabling rapid communication of intelligence and facilitating the tracking personnel to quickly report Wu Quanjiang's exact location.

Zheng Mingshan picked up the phone casually. The voice on the other end immediately changed his expression. He quickly put the phone down and issued the order: "Director's order: Arrest Wu Quanjiang immediately! Live!"

Everyone suddenly realized that Wu Quanjiang had suddenly changed into a waiter's uniform today because he was about to run away!

Zheng Mingshan kicked open the door and, with his men, chased after Wu Quanjiang and his companion, who hadn't gone far.

Wu Quanjiang and Ding Yuan were also constantly observing their surroundings. They knew they were definitely under the surveillance of the spies. The more this was the case, the more calm and collected they had to remain. They were gambling that even if the spies were following them, they wouldn't make any move to arrest them.

Unfortunately, things didn't go as they expected. Zheng Mingshan and his men rushed out of the room and pounced on them. Wu Quanjiang and Ding Yuan knew that things had indeed turned out as the intelligence had said: the enemy had begun their capture operation!

"Run!" Without hesitation, the two men took off running forward. At the same time, they pulled out pistols from their pockets and fired preemptively, raising their guns behind them.

Gunshots rang out, and an agent was immediately shot and fell to the ground.

The agents drew their guns and returned fire, prompting Zheng Mingshan to shout, "Be careful not to hit vital organs! Shoot the legs and feet! We need them alive!"

Fortunately, his order was timely, and the agents, wary of what was happening, lowered their guns, causing bullets to scatter dirt around Wu Quanjiang and Ding Yuan's feet; otherwise, the two would certainly have been hit by now.

There weren't many people on the street to begin with, but as soon as the gunshots rang out, everyone was terrified and scattered, and the street was instantly deserted!
