Chapter Seventy-Eight: Cleaning Up Traces

Then he searched the guest rooms, and finally the bedrooms, but found nothing. The rooms had everything a typical household would have, but nothing related to the underground Communist Party! There was nothing unusual, which showed that Lu Ming must be an extremely cautious person!

But isn't it a bit too clean? Ning Zhiheng decided to search the bedroom again.

Most people believe that the smaller the space they are in, the safer they feel, and that what they see is the most real. Therefore, a person's bedroom is the most likely place to hide their secrets! This is a common human flaw!

He searched inch by inch, and when he got to the wardrobe, he thought for a moment and simply took out all the clothes carefully. He then carefully felt around with his hands and finally found that a wooden board against the wall was looser than the other boards.

He took out his dagger and tried to pry open the wooden board. Sure enough, it came off easily with a gentle nudge. It must have been taken off frequently, so there must be something wrong with it.

Sure enough, a hole about a foot square had been cut into the wall behind the wooden plank, and a wooden box was placed inside.

Found it!

Ning Zhiheng was excited; this was so well hidden that he almost missed it.

He took out the wooden box, feeling its heavy weight, placed it on the bedside table, and gently opened it.

There were quite a few things inside. On the right side, there were more than a dozen gold bars and several stacks of banknotes, including pounds and fiat currency, which were estimated to be a considerable amount.

But that's quite normal. For a section chief in the Ministry of Finance, this amount of money is really meager. These days, government officials with any real power can easily earn ten or even a hundred times more!

Lu Ming's assets should be more than this, but considering the current difficult situation of the underground Communist Party, it is estimated that the money he received has been handed over to the organization as operating funds!

On the left side of the wooden box was a red cloth bag. When opened, it contained two extremely beautiful Yuhua stones, which were round, smooth, and colorful. Below that was a photograph, in which Lu Ming's memory of the delicate woman was smiling sweetly with her eyes lowered!

Upon closer inspection, there was nothing else in the wooden box. There was nothing unusual about these items; they were just some of Lu Ming's personal belongings, and there was no indication that they had any connection with the underground party!

Ning Zhiheng was somewhat disappointed. He had searched the entire house and this was all he had found. He would hand over the wooden box to the contact person, the farmer!

He didn't plan to touch a single penny of the money in the wooden box. He didn't need the money, and besides, it belonged to Lu Ming and should eventually be handed over to the underground party.

As for the two pebbles and the photo in the red cloth bag, there must be a story behind them. Ning Zhiheng didn't know what to do with them, but the farmer and Lu Ming were comrades-in-arms for many years, so perhaps he knew what to do.

Despite some regret, Ning Zhiheng did not intend to waste any more time here, as he had been in Lu Ming's house for quite some time!

He carefully put all the items he had touched back in their original positions. As he was wiping away the marks in the living room, he suddenly felt that something was wrong. He inspected the entire living room again and finally found the problem!

There were more than a dozen exquisitely shaped small tea canisters on the tea table in the living room. Ning Zhiheng didn't think anything was wrong when he first searched the place, assuming that Lu Ming just loved drinking tea. But now it seems there's something wrong!

Most households wouldn't keep this much tea, and since Lu Ming lives alone, one can of tea can lasts a long time. Even if the tea canister is small, buying more than ten canisters of tea is still too much. After all, tea has a shelf life, so it's unnecessary!

He went up and opened all the tea canisters to check them. There was no problem; they only contained tea leaves and nothing else.

But Ning Zhiheng's intuition told him that this must be a loophole left by Lu Ming, and there would definitely be a search by the Party Affairs Investigation Department. He had to take these tea canisters away and not leave any major hidden dangers!
