Chapter Seventy-Six: Code Name: Shadow

Following the other team members, they rushed into the hall. Several team members went forward and tied Lu Ming up, then tore off his inner collar, and sure enough, they found white potassium cyanide powder inside.

They stuffed a wad of cloth into his mouth to prevent him from biting his tongue and harming himself. Ning Zhiheng then noticed that Lu Ming's back was covered in blood and quickly called his teammates to give him emergency first aid.

The remaining two members of the investigation team ignored their explanations and tied them up.

Ning Zhiheng quickly sent someone to inform Shi Hong and *** that the mission was complete and they should return to base immediately!

The group hurriedly returned to the Military Intelligence Department. Ning Zhiheng instructed Shao Wenguang to escort Ma Hong and the others to the Interrogation Section for interrogation.

Ning Zhiheng was worried about Lu Ming's injuries, so he quickly sent him to the emergency room. At this time, Lu Ming was barely breathing. His two gunshot wounds were wrapped in white gauze, and blood kept seeping from the most serious wound on his back. He was also having great difficulty breathing and could hardly catch his breath!

The military doctor stepped forward to examine Lu Ming's injuries. After a brief examination, he turned to Ning Zhiheng and said, "Captain Ning, this man is in critical condition. Unless he is transferred to the Army General Hospital, there's nothing we can do! But judging from his injuries, he won't last long enough to be transferred. Ask him anything you need right away; his time is running out!"

Hearing the army doctor's words, Ning Zhiheng's heart sank. He nodded helplessly. This underground party member was the first Red Party member he had come into contact with. He had originally planned to use his connections to become a member of the Red Party again and return to the organization's embrace. However, things did not go as planned. Despite his best efforts, it was all in vain.

In fact, he saw that Lu Ming was determined to die, and this result might be a fulfillment of his wish for benevolence!

He waved to the medic, who understood perfectly that he was asking the patient a final question and asked him to leave.

This kind of thing is very common in the military intelligence department. He encounters it many times a year. After leaving the emergency room, he closes the door tightly and leaves far away. This is to prevent the contents of the interrogation from being leaked. He must also abide by the confidentiality regulations!

Ning Zhiheng came to Lu Ming's bedside. He leaned down and whispered in Lu Ming's ear, "You heard what the doctor said just now. You don't have much time left. I won't interrogate you now. Just tell me what you haven't finished with, and I will do my best!"

Seeing Lu Ming nod slightly, Ning Zhiheng reached out and removed the gag from Lu Ming's mouth. Lu Ming let out a long sigh, looked up at Ning Zhiheng, remained silent for a while, and then said in a hoarse and low voice, "I knew this day would come, but I didn't expect it to be so soon. I won't say anything, so you don't need to waste your time!"

Ning Zhiheng lowered his voice and said softly, "Don't worry! I won't ask anything, I just want to talk to you for a while."

"Cough, cough, talking to me? We have different stances. Cough, cough! Different beliefs, the hatred between us runs too deep. Cough, what's the point of talking to you!" Lu Ming felt that the young officer in front of him gave him a very different feeling, and he sensed a trace of sadness in his eyes.

Why was he so sad? Was he saddened by the impending death of this underground member of the Communist Party? How could that be! The two had never met before, and besides, they were on opposing sides!

“Say anything you want to say, anything you can say. I think you should have someone with you in this short moment before you leave this world, someone to listen to you. You wouldn’t want to leave so alone, would you?” Ning Zhiheng’s tone was calm and unwavering, but his eyes were filled with sadness as he looked at Lu Ming.

After listening to Ning Zhiheng's words, Lu Ming smiled bitterly. He hadn't expected that someone would be willing to talk to him in his final moments before leaving this world, and even more unexpectedly, it was a young officer from the Kuomintang.

"Do you have any religious beliefs?" he suddenly asked Ning Zhiheng.

“Yes, of course I have my beliefs!” Ning Zhiheng nodded in reply.

"Ahem, ahem, your Three Principles of the People?" Lu Ming asked.

“No,” Ning Zhiheng hesitated for a moment, looking at Lu Ming’s increasingly pale face, and finally said, “Communism!”

Upon hearing his words, Lu Ming, who was already weak, suddenly opened his eyes wide and stared at Ning Zhiheng in disbelief. After examining him for a while, he gave a bitter smile and said, "Look at me now. I'll say it again, you don't need to waste your time!"

Ning Zhiheng knew he wouldn't believe it at all; he was just saddened and wanted to accompany this steadfast Communist Party member on his final journey.

“I said I wouldn’t ask anything. Do you have any unfulfilled wishes? You can tell me!” Ning Zhiheng asked directly without arguing.

He knew that Lu Ming couldn't hold on for much longer. Lu Ming also felt his breathing becoming heavier and heavier, as if a heavy stone was pressing on his chest. His tired eyes were too weak to open, and he didn't even have the strength to move a finger!

Knowing his time was running out, he slowly closed his eyes and said, "If you insist on asking me what my unfulfilled wish is, then I'll tell you, cough, I want that traitor named Zhang Pei to die, because he betrayed our beliefs!"

"I promise you! After you leave, I will personally send him on his way and avenge you!" Ning Zhiheng said without the slightest hesitation, his tone firm.

Zhang Pei must be a traitor to the underground party. His existence is a serious threat to the underground party. Even without Lu Ming saying it, he must find a way to get rid of him!

"Why would you do this?" Lu Ming was genuinely shocked this time. He wasn't so naive as to expect a Kuomintang officer to avenge him.
