At this moment, the car sped closer, and Lai Huaiwu sensed something was wrong; he knew things must have changed.
His mind raced. He had considered the possibility of an accident, and now that something had actually happened, he was about to step forward and subdue the young master Wei as he had planned when he suddenly felt something was wrong!
The other party appeared calm and composed, showing no fear whatsoever. On the contrary, a hint of ferocity flashed in his eyes as he turned to look at him. Lai Huaiwu couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine, as if a cold wind was rising from the back of his head. He had a vague feeling that his plan was unlikely to succeed.
I must leave here immediately! Lai Huaiwu made up his mind instantly, then turned and ran!
He didn't even bother to grab the two boxes of US dollars that were right next to him. He wasn't worried about the money; as long as Wei Hongde had it, the Wei family would have to send it over sooner or later.
What he needed to do now was to leave as soon as possible and make a decision later. Just then, two of his men who had been hiding in the shadows and keeping watch appeared to meet Lai Huaiwu.
"Fifth Brother, something's gone wrong! Let's get out of here!"
With a shout, Lai Huaiwu didn't say much, and the three of them quickly retreated along the planned escape route.
Ji Hongyi watched them drive away quickly without giving chase. The car braked suddenly and stopped beside him. One of the team members driving the vehicle opened the car door and reported to Ji Hongyi, "They've succeeded!"
Ji Hongyi was delighted to hear this. Things were progressing smoothly, so he had nothing to worry about. He turned around, picked up a flashlight from the back seat, switched it on, held it high, and drew three circles. The arc of light was particularly conspicuous in the night.
Lai Huaiwu did not see Ji Hongyi's next move; he had already chosen a very hidden retreat route.
The three men dared not linger and quickly entered an alley. They rushed out of the alley and onto a highway, where they saw a car parked on the side of the road. Two of their other men were there, ready to provide backup at any time.
Lai Huaiwu finally breathed a sigh of relief. The sudden turn of events had put him under immense pressure, and he was only able to relax now.
He couldn't help but spit and cursed, "That Wei kid is a real ruthless character. Damn it, he doesn't even care about his father's life. When I get back, I'll chop off one of his father's hands and send it to him. Let's see if he dares to play any tricks again!"
Since they hadn't gotten the money, Wei Hongde couldn't be killed. However, since the Wei family wouldn't comply, they shouldn't blame themselves.
"This old man Wei is supposed to be a Shanghai tycoon! Damn, he's got money to burn!"
"When we get back, I'll give that old bastard a good beating first..."
The three men were relieved to be safe and were extremely annoyed. They couldn't help but complain and curse as they approached the car. However, they felt something was strange. There should have been two other men inside the car, but they didn't make a sound until they got close.
The fifth brother couldn't help but yank open the car door, only to be shocked to find his two companions already leaning back in their seats, motionless, with a bloody smell emanating from the car.
"not good!"
He quickly turned around, about to warn Lai Huaiwu, when he felt a jolt, a bloody flower blooming on his chest. Immediately afterward, a muffled sound came from the surroundings, and bullets flew from the darkness, hitting the three men with dense and accurate force.
Lai Huaiwu and his two companions had no chance to react before they were killed instantly in the storm of attacks.
The sounds of the attack abruptly ceased, and several figures emerged from the darkness. As they approached, the leader bent down, examined them briefly, and nodded. Clearly, in such an attack, there was no room for chance.
With a wave of his hand, the other team members stepped forward, grabbed the body from both ends, and threw it into a car next to them. One team member pushed the body aside from the driver's seat, got in, started the car, and sped away. The others also turned and disappeared into the darkness, quickly retreating without a trace.
Wei Hongde sat in the car, his eyes blindfolded, unable to see anything. However, unlike when he was kidnapped last time, his hands were free. He could sense the other party's goodwill; at least they weren't deliberately restricting his freedom. In other words, they weren't forcing him, but they also didn't want him to know too much about them.
As he walked, he could clearly sense that there was a person sitting next to him, but this person remained silent the whole way. He didn't know what was going on, even though he judged that these people had come to rescue him. However, the two sides had not communicated at all, and he was not sure of their true purpose.
After a long while, Wei Hongde could no longer contain himself and asked softly, "Brother, where are you taking me?"
"go home!"
The two-word answer was brief and forceful, but it was clear that the other party was unwilling to say more.
Wei Hongde felt a surge of warmth in his heart. He was finally certain that he had gained his freedom and escaped a certain death. He was momentarily dazed, took a deep breath, and after a while, asked, "Thank you very much. I thought today would be the day I died, but I never expected to be rescued by all of you heroes and to be able to survive a desperate situation. I don't know how I can repay you even a little bit."
Since the other party did not want him to know too much, Wei Hongde did not dare to ask about their identity, but his gratitude was evident.
Zuo Gang was unwilling to talk much with Wei Hongde. This business tycoon's mind and experience were naturally beyond the reach of ordinary people, and the more he talked, the more likely he was to make a mistake.
He thought for a moment and said again, "There's no need for thanks. We brothers are just doing our jobs for money. It's a fair trade, and we owe each other nothing!"
Upon hearing this, Wei Hongde was taken aback. The other party's meaning was clear: someone had paid these people to save him. As for who it was, besides his family, who else could afford to save him?
