The one who attacked Hirayama Jiro was Iwai Nosuke, who had been in charge of investigating and monitoring Ning Zhiheng.
These past few days, Iwai Nosuke made a special trip to Suzhou. Two assassination attempts occurred in succession, causing a great sensation in Suzhou. The inside story was not difficult to investigate. After Iwai Nosuke investigated the situation, he rushed back to Shanghai to report to Kitaoka Ryoko.
Kitaoka Ryoko's orders to Iwai Nosuke were to closely monitor Fujiwara Tomohito and find the whereabouts of Hirayama Jiro and Miyata Yasutoshi before other forces. She intended to use Hirayama Jiro and Miyata Yasutoshi as hostages and threaten Fujiwara Tomohito with the murder of a local garrison officer to force him to support Tsuchihara Keiji.
For the past few days, Iwai no Nakasa had been following Ning Zhiheng closely, secretly observing any unusual situations around him and not letting any clue slip by. Iwai no Nakasa was an extremely outstanding agent, and his intelligence capabilities far surpassed those of ordinary agents. In the end, he managed to discover Hirayama Jiro's whereabouts during his careful search, and seized the opportunity to suddenly strike and knock Hirayama Jiro down.
After confirming Hirayama Jiro's identity, Iwai Nosuke was overjoyed. He reached into Hirayama Jiro's pocket and pulled out a Nambu sidearm, carefully putting it away. At that moment, a car stopped behind him, and a burly man got out. The two men quickly tied Hirayama Jiro's hands and feet, gagged him with a wad of cloth, stuffed him into the back seat, and then the car started and sped away.
Hirayama Jiro was filled with despair. He had never imagined that he would be captured so easily. He could imagine what would happen next: he would be sent to Fujiwara no Tomohito and his life would come to an end. Unfortunately, he had failed in his mission and was still unable to avenge his brother. Hirayama Jiro was filled with regret.
After an unknown amount of time, the vehicle stopped, and Iwai nosuke and the burly man carried Hirayama Jiro out and into a safe house.
To Hirayama Jiro's surprise, the person standing before him was not Fujiwara Tomohito, the chairman of the Fujiwara Association, as he had imagined, but a very beautiful young female officer.
The female officer was looking at him with a smile when she ordered, "Untie him!"
Iwai nosuke stepped forward and untied Hirayama Jiro's hands and feet, removed the gag from his mouth, and found the pistol on Hirayama Jiro's body. Based on his fighting skills alone, Iwai nosuke could easily defeat Hirayama Jiro and was not afraid that he would make any comeback.
"Let me introduce myself. I am Yoshiko Kitaoka, the head of the intelligence group of the Shanghai Tsuchihara Agency. I have specially invited Mr. Hirayama here today because I want to have a good talk with you!"
Kitaoka Ryoko spoke with a beaming smile, which eased Hirayama Jiro's tension considerably.
He calmed himself down before speaking, "What do you want with me? You just want to take me to Fujiwara no Tomohito and collect the bounty!"
Kitaoka Ryoko shook her head and said, "If I were to hand you over to Fujiwara Tomohito, I wouldn't have gone through all this trouble. Alright, Hirayama-kun, let's get straight to the point. I just want to know why you wanted to assassinate Fujiwara Tomohito?"
Kitaoka Ryoko wanted to confirm her previous conjecture and needed to hear Hirayama Jiro's affirmative answer in person.
Hirayama Jiro was taken aback. He looked at Kitaoka Ryoko. It seemed that she was not in cahoots with the Fujiwara Company. Otherwise, they wouldn't have bothered with so much talk and could have just dealt with him directly.
With that in mind, he told Kitaoka Ryoko everything that Miyata Yasuhisa had told him without holding back.
Just as she had guessed, Kitaoka Ryoko looked satisfied and then asked, "Who told you all these things?"
"My brother's good friend, Miyata Yasuhisa, and my brother have known each other since childhood. Later, when my brother was stationed in Suzhou, he wrote to Miyata Yasuhisa, asking him to come to Suzhou from Japan and open the Miyata Trading Company. Everything was going well until recently when the Fujiwara Company entered Suzhou, and everything changed. In the end, my brother was killed by them. They even called him an anti-Japanese element, which is ridiculous! Do you know that when I killed Shirakawa Eiei, he was drinking and having fun with the bastards from the Special Higher Police and the Military Police? They are all birds of a feather!" Hirayama Jiro said viciously.
Kitaoka Ryoko was not surprised by this. Fujiwara Tomohito had done the same thing in Shanghai. The military police headquarters troops were like his subordinates, obeying his orders at any time. The Special Higher Police also turned a blind eye to the Fujiwara Company's smuggling. It was obvious to anyone that these people were all in cahoots. It was laughable that she had naively exposed the Fujiwara Company's smuggling to Sagawa Taro, only to be severely reprimanded instead.
Kitaoka Ryoko asked again, "Where is Miyata Yasuhisa now?"
Hirayama Tokumoto was killed, and the Miyata Shokai was annexed. Miyata Yasuhisa was a party involved and the most direct witness, so he had to keep him under control.
But how could Hirayama Jiro trust people so easily? If these people were deceiving him to find out Miyata Yasuhisa's whereabouts so that he could eliminate him completely and prevent future troubles, then wouldn't he be handing Miyata Yasuhisa over to their swords for nothing?
Miyata Yasuhisa was his brother's good friend. Even when he was on the run, he didn't forget to inform him and gave him half of his wealth, which shows his integrity. How could Hirayama Jiro betray him?
Hirayama Jiro smiled dismissively and said calmly, "I don't know, and you won't find him either."
Hirayama Jiro's expression was clearly seen by Kitaoka Ryoko and Iwai Nosuke. Both of them were highly trained and excellent agents, and they could tell at a glance that Hirayama Jiro definitely knew Miyata Yasuhisa's whereabouts, but just didn't trust them.
Kitaoka Ryoko took a deep breath, softened her tone, and said in a deep voice, "Hirayama-kun, I have absolutely no ill intentions towards you. Otherwise, I could have used some more vicious methods to deal with you and pry you open your mouth. Believe me, those methods would be enough to turn you into an idiot, and you would tell me everything you know."
