Ning Zhiheng quickly bowed slightly, a standard Japanese greeting, and replied briefly, "Hi, nice to meet you!"
Ning Zhiheng once consulted Yi Hua'an about Japanese etiquette, and had no difficulty communicating with Japanese people.
A moment later, the door opened, and an elderly man dressed in Japanese clothing came out. He looked at Ning Zhiheng and asked softly, "Judging from your accent, you're from Osaka?"
“A Kyoto native!” Ning Zhiheng replied briefly.
The elderly man nodded. The most famous cities in the Kansai region are Osaka and Kyoto, though their accents are slightly different.
"This courtyard is very quiet and clean. Would you like to go in and take a look?" the elderly man asked. He was obviously the landlord of the small courtyard and wanted to rent it out, so he started to promote it to Ning Zhiheng.
Ning Zhiheng was actually quite satisfied with this courtyard. It was a secluded place with its own entrance, making it perfect for him to stay temporarily.
"Thank you for your hard work!" Ning Zhiheng nodded and said.
The old man grinned, his brows furrowed into a deep wrinkle. He pulled out a bunch of keys, opened the gate, and went in first, with Ning Zhiheng following behind him.
Although the courtyard was not large, it was indeed very clean. The old man opened the door again, turned around and said, "The room is not big, but it has everything. It's enough for one person."
Ning Zhiheng also went into the house. Sure enough, it was small but complete, with a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom, and it was kept very clean.
Ning Zhiheng nodded and said, "Very good, I'll rent it!"
Upon hearing this, the elderly man immediately smiled and said, "Forty yen a month."
"This price is not cheap," Ning Zhiheng said with some surprise as he looked at the elderly man, which immediately made the man feel a little embarrassed.
He knew the price was a bit high, but he just wanted to test Ning Zhiheng's reaction. He thought Ning Zhiheng had just immigrated from Japan and didn't know the market rate yet, so he was thinking of asking for more rent. But seeing Ning Zhiheng's expression, he knew that Ning Zhiheng knew the market rate.
He couldn't help but laugh awkwardly, and said again, "At least thirty-five yuan."
Ning Zhiheng wasn't complaining about the rent being too high; he simply didn't want to pay an exorbitant price to stand out. Seeing the elderly man voluntarily lowering the price, he thought for a moment before saying, "Okay!"
Upon hearing Ning Zhiheng's agreement, the elderly man immediately became happy. He laughed and said, "I am Yoshimura Yuta, the landlord of this house. I am from Yokohama. We will be neighbors from now on. If you need anything, just tell me. I just came from Japan."
Ning Zhiheng nodded and said briefly, "Fujiwara Tomohito, a native of Kyoto, please take care of me!"
"That's great, Fujiwara-kun, but we still need to see your proof. The police here are a real nuisance; they come to check all the time, so we need to be careful!" Yoshimura Yuta said apologetically.
Ning Zhiheng didn't say much, opened his briefcase, and handed over his immigration certificate.
Yoshimura Yuta looked it over, smiled, and handed it back, nodding and saying, "That's settled then. I see you didn't bring much luggage. I'll go get a bedding set. If you need anything else, just let me know."
He knew that many immigrants came to China empty-handed, so he wasn't surprised and was very considerate of Ning Zhiheng.
Ning Zhiheng immediately nodded and said, "Then I'll have to trouble you!"
He kept his words as brief as possible, afraid that Yoshimura Yuta would notice something amiss, but fortunately, he handled the situation fairly smoothly.
Ning Zhiheng paid two months' rent upfront. Soon after, Yoshimura Yuta brought over bedding and gave Ning Zhiheng the key, saying, "If you're not comfortable with that, you can go to the street corner ahead and buy a good quality brass lock yourself."
Ning Zhiheng smiled and nodded. Yoshimura Yuta was not surprised that Ning Zhiheng was not good at talking. Japanese people are often repressed and many are taciturn. This is not surprising. After explaining the situation, Yoshimura Yuta went back.
Ning Zhiheng tidied up the house briefly, and that was it. The remaining task was to observe the terrain as soon as possible to formulate an assassination plan. With that in mind, he got up and went out, then turned around and locked the courtyard gate, preparing to look around.
