Sun Jiacheng and Ji Hongyi stayed behind to wait for news with Ning Zhiheng outside the operating room.
Ning Zhiheng leaned against a window in the corridor, looking out. His expression was calm and composed, but his mind was in turmoil. He didn't know what would happen in the operating room, or whether Miao Yongyi would be able to pull through. In just a few days, the sacrifices of Wang Shucheng and Ke Chengyun, two pieces of bad news in a row, were too much for Ning Zhiheng to bear. He didn't want to hear any more bad news!
The surgery lasted two hours. When Miao Yongyi was wheeled out, Ning Zhiheng quickly stepped forward to the bedside. Looking at Miao Yongyi's face, he knew he was still breathing and couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. He was finally alive and off the operating table.
"Dr. Li, how is Yongyi? Is he alright?" Ning Zhiheng asked anxiously.
Doctor Li looked at Ning Zhiheng, opened his mouth, but then felt he had to tell the truth, otherwise it would definitely cause trouble later.
"This wounded soldier doesn't have any major injuries, but he has lost a lot of blood, mainly because there are many shrapnel fragments in his body. Fortunately, they are not deep, the shrapnel have all been removed, and the bleeding has stopped, but..."
He stopped there, unwilling to say more. He didn't want to spread the word that the hospital was out of medicine, as it could cause widespread panic and have unpredictable consequences.
But Ning Zhiheng understood what Dr. Li meant. The most crucial thing now was to prevent infection. This was the most difficult hurdle to overcome, and if they couldn't get through it, they would die.
"Are you out of medicine?" Ning Zhiheng asked softly.
Dr. Li's eyes darted around a little, but he finally nodded.
Ning Zhiheng glanced at Miao Yongyi, who was unconscious beside him, and said again, "I'll find a way to get anti-inflammatory medicine."
Upon hearing Ning Zhiheng's words, Dr. Li's eyes lit up, but quickly dimmed again. He said bitterly, "It's very difficult. Almost all the wound medicines have been concentrated in the hospital. There are no more medicines available in Shanghai. Unless he is sent to a hospital in the rear, but his condition won't hold out!"
Ning Zhiheng didn't say much; he was unaware of the current state of the pharmaceutical market and needed to find out immediately.
"Please take good care of him, I'll be right back!" Ning Zhiheng said, and without waiting for Doctor Li's reply, he quickly left, with Sun Jiacheng and Ji Hongyi following behind him.
The hospital was packed with wounded people, and there was hardly any room to put your feet down. Ning Zhiheng and his two companions walked out of the hospital.
Upon reaching the roadside, Ning Zhiheng turned to Ji Hongyi and said, "The hospital is out of medicine. Go and find a way to get some anti-inflammatory drugs, the sooner the better!"
Knowing Ning Zhiheng's anxiety, Ji Hongyi nodded and said, "I'll take care of it right away, I'll be back in an hour at most."
Ning Zhiheng nodded. He knew the influence of the Green Gang in Shanghai. If they wanted to do something, there was nothing they couldn't do. As the leader of the Northern Jiangsu Gang, Ji Hongyi had extensive connections within the Green Gang and should be able to find a way to obtain the medicine.
"You must do your best; he is my brother in life and death!" Ning Zhiheng instructed.
"Yes!" Ji Hongyi knew that he couldn't let Ning Zhiheng suffer any mishaps. He agreed and turned to leave quickly, disappearing from sight.
Ning Zhiheng and Sun Jiacheng waited anxiously by the roadside, feeling that time was passing too slowly, but Ji Hongyi was still nowhere to be seen.
Only an hour had passed before Ji Hongyi appeared before him. Ning Zhiheng quickly asked, "Did you get the medicine?"
Ji Hongyi nodded, turned around and led a strong young man in his thirties to Ning Zhiheng.
“Team leader, this is my sworn brother, his real name is You Ying, we all call him Lao Liu. He has some medicine on him,” Ji Hongyi introduced to Ning Zhiheng.
"Captain Ning! You can just call me Lao Liu! You can come to me if you need anything in the Nanshi area!" Lao Liu patted his chest and said readily.
"Okay, Sixth Brother, I need medicine for my injuries. Did you bring it?" Ning Zhiheng asked anxiously.
"Don't worry, I brought it, but this is all I have. I'm keeping this for self-defense, since things can get chaotic in war, and I want to be prepared," You Laoliu quickly replied, then took out a medicine box from his pocket and handed it to Ning Zhiheng.
