Chapter Twelve: Searching for the Teacher Again

Despite having prepared himself mentally, Ning Zhiheng was still momentarily stunned when he saw the suitcase full of brand-new banknotes.

This is wealth that many people cannot earn in their entire lives. It is estimated that even my father, who has been doing business in Hangzhou for many years and worked hard all his life, would not have half the wealth of this suitcase in front of him.

With this wealth, he now has the means to make his mark in this world. Many plans can now be implemented.

The suitcase is for bank use only; it's only about a foot square, not very big, but the outer shell is sturdy, so you don't have to worry about it being cut by a blade. It's also very inconspicuous in appearance and easy to carry.

After accepting Chen Kangshi's business card, Ning Zhiheng picked up his suitcase and quickly left Nanye Bank. Now, all he needed to do was spend the money immediately. As for who would pay for it, he had already chosen: his teacher, He Feng.

He first drove to Nanjing's largest watch store and lavishly bought four expensive Swiss Longines watches, then went to buy the most expensive set of French perfumes available at the time. By then it was almost noon.

Seeing that the time was just right, Ning Zhiheng drove to his teacher He Feng's residence. During his time at military academy, he often visited his teacher's home. As He Feng's favorite student, he often got to eat and drink at his teacher's house.

He Feng's residence was in a small courtyard near the Army Officer Academy. This area was mostly inhabited by instructors from the academy, and those who taught at the academy were all high-ranking officers. It was essentially a high-level, semi-military residential area, inaccessible to ordinary people.

There were soldiers standing guard at the entrance of the street. They recognized Ning Zhiheng, as he had been visiting his teacher's house frequently in the past two years. Seeing that he was a familiar face, the soldiers let him pass without stopping him.

It was almost noon when we arrived at He Feng's house. A boy of about fourteen or fifteen years old ran out when he heard the car. It was He Feng's son, He Wenxing.

He Feng has a daughter and a son. His eldest daughter, He Wenxiu, is sixteen years old this year, and his second son, He Wenxing, is fourteen years old. They are both very close to Ning Zhiheng. When He Wenxing saw Ning Zhiheng getting out of the car, he skipped and hopped over to him.

"Brother Zhiheng, you've finally arrived! Why haven't you come to my house these past few days? My mom hasn't cooked anything delicious for us in ages!" He Wenxing greeted him with a grin.

Ning Zhiheng was one of his father's favorite disciples, and he had a very casual and good relationship with his siblings. This was mainly because his senior brother was easygoing and took good care of him, and his family didn't treat him like an outsider.

Ning Zhiheng stepped forward and affectionately pressed He Wenxing's head down and rubbed it a couple of times, saying, "Here we are, you little glutton, all you know is to eat!" He Wenxing is growing very fast, and has grown quite a bit in just two years. In another two years, his head will be too big to hold down, so he took the opportunity to rub it a few more times.

He Wenxing turned away from his senior's clutches with displeasure. He asked solicitously, "I heard from Father that you didn't go to the front lines, but were assigned to the logistics department in Nanjing. Mother said it's a good thing, that peace and safety are the most important things in this world! But if you ask me, going to the front lines would be the most prestigious. It's such a pity for you, Zhiheng!"

He Feng was very tight-lipped and wouldn't tell anyone, not even his family, about Ning Zhiheng's specific job assignment after graduation. The family thought it was a normal job assignment, and He Wenxing even felt a little indignant on behalf of his senior.

Ning Zhiheng found it somewhat amusing. Boys at this age only have simple dreams in their minds, all of them dreaming of becoming little men and soldiers. They don't have to think about so much. Thinking about it, he was somewhat envious of them.

Ning Zhiheng took the suitcase from the car, and the two of them entered the He residence chatting and laughing.

At this moment, Li Lan, Ning Zhiheng's wife, and He Wenxiu, who were cooking in the kitchen, also heard the two talking. They brought out the food and placed it on the dining table, inviting Ning Zhiheng to sit down.

Li Lan was a middle-aged woman who still possessed charm and elegance. Her daughter, He Wenxiu, looked very much like her mother, graceful and beautiful like a lotus flower, standing tall and elegant.

"Zhiheng is here! Your teacher said you've been assigned a good place in Nanjing. Come over for dinner whenever you have time. Food outside isn't clean!" Li Lan greeted Ning Zhiheng warmly. She knew he was her husband's favorite student, and naturally, she took good care of him as well.

He Wenxiu, who was standing to the side, did not speak. She glanced at Ning Zhiheng, smiled, and then busied herself setting out the dishes and chopsticks. Her personality was like that of her father, He Feng. She was introverted and taciturn, and she simply smiled at Ning Zhiheng.

Ning Zhiheng enjoyed the harmonious family atmosphere; he felt warm inside. He placed his suitcase on the coffee table and first took out the set of French perfume, handing it to Li Lan.

"Madam, I bought this on my way here. The shopkeeper said it's the most fashionable item right now. I don't really know much about it, but if you like it, I'll buy some more next time."

Li Lan was quite surprised. In the past, Ning Zhiheng would always come to her house to freeload and never brought any gifts. What was going on today?

In truth, Ning Zhiheng was young and naive back then. He thought his teacher's family wasn't outsiders, and since he didn't have much spare money, he came empty-handed. Of course, He Feng's family treated him like one of their own nephews and didn't find anything wrong with it.

But Ning Zhiheng is now worldly-wise and knows that it's never wrong to be overly polite, and that even the closest relationships need to be maintained and cultivated.

Furthermore, his greatest reliance in the military is his teacher, He Feng. He will need to rely on his teacher's support even more in the future, and strengthening the teacher-student relationship will play a crucial role in his future development.

Moreover, it cannot be said that he was opportunistic; he genuinely regarded the He family as his own.

"What's wrong with you, child? You suddenly remembered to bring a gift for your teacher's wife, but you're acting all distant now. Your teacher will definitely scold you when he gets back!" Li Lan didn't mince words and reached out to take the gift.
