Ning Zhiheng looked at the four team members and asked, "Where are your surveillance points located?"
The team members answered one after another. It turned out that the four team members were divided into two groups of two, one in a pavilion in the residential area across the street and the other at a street corner. Both of these were relatively hidden surveillance points.
Ning Zhiheng pointed to the window and then asked, "Can you see this window from your surveillance point?"
One team member replied, "The pavilion we chose is higher than this room and not too far away. I can see the window clearly with my binoculars, and I can even see some things inside the room, but Gu Zhengqing has kept the curtains closed, so we can't observe what's going on inside."
Another team member reported: "Our surveillance point is on the street corner, mainly monitoring the hotel entrance and people coming in and out. We can't see this window clearly because the angle isn't good enough."
Ning Zhiheng pointed to the first group of team members and asked, "Tell me about the specifics of your surveillance?"
The team member thought for a moment, then shook his head and said, "As soon as Gu Zhengqing entered the room, we confirmed the location of the window. Then the section chief arranged for us to set up a surveillance point across the street. We only noticed that Gu Zhengqing first turned on the lights in the room and then opened the window, but the curtains were never opened. We didn't notice anything unusual until the case was uncovered."
Ning Zhiheng thought for a moment, then turned to Yu Cheng and asked, "Do you remember when Gu Zhengqing arrived at the hotel?"
Yu Cheng quickly replied, "Around 7:10 pm, it was already dark."
Ning Zhiheng asked, "Call the manager and the waiters over. I need to know if room 202 was booked recently or has been reserved for a while?"
Yu Cheng quickly replied, "I checked. Room 202 is booked by Gu Zhengqing regularly. He comes to stay for one night every now and then. The manager and the staff all know him."
Ning Zhiheng was taken aback and asked to confirm, "When did you investigate? Before or after the incident?"
"After the incident, Gu Zhengqing's motive for choosing Huaqing Hotel was unclear. I wasn't sure if they had any people at Huaqing Hotel, so when I arrived at the hotel, I didn't ask the staff about Gu Zhengqing or room 202, nor did I control these people, for fear of alerting them. I only opened room 208 next to him to monitor them. I didn't expect that something would still go wrong. Only after the incident did I control all the people and question them."
Ning Zhiheng nodded and said calmly, "At least you still have some brains. Go and bring everyone over."
"yes!"
Soon, Yu Cheng brought up the hotel manager and five waiters. Ning Zhiheng looked them over with a gloomy face before asking the manager in a suit, "Do you know the murdered guest?"
The manager stammered, "I recognize him. His name is Wan Yingguang. He's a guest here. He booked room 202 six months ago, saying he's a businessman who stays here every time he comes to Chongqing on business, and leaves early the next morning. Who knew something like this would happen..."
Ning Zhiheng continued, "How often does he come to stay? Does he always stay alone? Has anyone come to see him?"
This series of questions made the hotel manager even more nervous. He hurriedly took out a handkerchief to wipe the cold sweat from his forehead, thought for a moment, and then replied, "There is no fixed time. At the beginning, I came more frequently, about once a week. Later, it was once every ten days or so. This time, I haven't come for more than a month. Every time I come, I stay alone, but sometimes friends come to talk to me."
"Friend, is it always the same person? What does he/she look like?"
The manager smiled wryly and said, "I really can't remember. I have a lot of guests here, and Mr. Wan doesn't come often. Besides, he pays for the room and that's his room. As for how he uses it or whether he's a good guest, I can't control that, so I haven't paid much attention. But I think I've seen him twice. He's a young man in his twenties."
Ning Zhiheng then turned to the other waiters, his tone becoming even sterner, and asked, "The manager is too busy, but you must have some impression of him, right? Answer me honestly. If you dare to hide anything, I'll take you back to the Military Intelligence Bureau, and you'll never be able to get out of here again."
The five waiters were already terrified and at a loss. They already knew the identities of these people, who turned out to be the Kuomintang's Military Intelligence Bureau, which was feared by the common people. So they had been waiting anxiously for the questioning. Now that Ning Zhiheng had spoken, they dared not hide anything anymore.
A slightly older waiter replied, "I encountered him once. He was also a young man in his twenties, but he was wearing a long gown and a top hat, which obscured his features so much that I couldn't see his face clearly."
The other two waiters also said they had seen him once and described his appearance.
After asking around for a long time, Ning Zhiheng finally confirmed that the person was in his twenties, not very tall, but dressed differently. As for his appearance, he couldn't say for sure. He only remembered that the person was fairly good-looking, but it was difficult to describe him in detail. After all, there had been a long time between them, and they had only met briefly, so they couldn't remember him clearly. This left Ning Zhiheng, who was preparing to draw a portrait of the suspect based on the description, at a loss.
Moreover, there were contradictions in their descriptions, and they didn't seem to be the same person, so Ning Zhiheng simply gave up.
He finally understood that the person who met with Gu Zhengqing must be the same person. After all, Gu Zhengqing's intelligence was of great value, and the person responsible for contacting him would not change back and forth.
