Chapter 51 We must survive, no matter what!
An illness that comes easily will usually get better.
Although the symptoms were severe, it wasn't a serious illness. The medication was appropriate, and with the acupuncture and constant, attentive care, it was bound to get better.
But it didn't get better.
Lying in bed, my head was spinning and I felt weak and listless.
The person who took care of her was gone; there was no doctor, no medicine, and not even food or water.
Everything was shrouded in a gray haze, and my soul seemed to be drifting and swaying, as if it were about to leave my body.
She thought, perhaps this is what it's like for someone who is about to die.
It's for the best. She was all alone, with no ties or worries. If she dies, she dies. At least she'll suffer less...
But tears streamed down my face.
She didn't want to die.
Even though her father had passed away, she never thought about dying.
We have to survive no matter what.
Fortunately, Green Willow still cared about her and came to see her after finishing her own business.
I was really startled.
"Little sister, are you alone?"
This won't do. A person who is too sick to move, and has no one by their side...
Green Willow was both angry and heartbroken. "Didn't Mom make any arrangements before she left? Or was that person just being lazy?"
It was Luo Qingyu who hadn't made arrangements. She had been preoccupied with Liu Min before leaving, leaving no time for anything else. Even after finally getting into the carriage and relaxing, she still hadn't thought about it. How could she have? There were so many people in the courtyard, and everyone knew Shan Lai's identity; of course, she assumed there wouldn't be a problem.
She never imagined that there would be someone with malicious intent to harm her.
Shan Lai was terribly harmed.
His face was as white as paper, his lips were cracked, and he was barely breathing.
Green Willow forgot her anger and hurriedly fetched water, feeding it to the patient little by little until most of the cup was empty. Only then did she belatedly realize that she had been too hasty and had forgotten to check the water temperature... The water in the kettle was cold; she had actually given cold water to a seriously ill person!
"I'm so stupid! Sister, I'm so sorry..." She was on the verge of tears, "What should I do! How are you? What if... what if..."
She actually cried.
Of course, it's better for the patient to drink warm water, but for Shanlai at this moment, cold water is much better than warm water.
The cold stimulus temporarily restored some of her senses, allowing her to hear the crying of the person beside her and recognize that it was Green Willow.
Sister Green Willow is a good person.
She was saved.
Tears fell involuntarily.
“Sister…” Her voice was still hoarse even though it had just been moistened by water, “You are my benefactor… I will never forget your kindness today, and I will… in the future…”
I can't say what the future holds, because I'm too exhausted to breathe, but I'm sure it will be something I'll definitely repay in the future.
Green Willow quickly patted her chest and said, "Good sister, I know your heart. Don't talk anymore, rest first."
Shanlai took a couple of deep breaths, swallowed, and said to Lüyang, "Sister, get me some soup..."
For the first time in many days, she asked for food out of fear of death. Only today did she realize how deep her fear of death truly was.
"Okay, okay, you wait! I'm going right now!"
Green Willow knew what she was like before, so hearing this was a pleasant surprise. As long as she wanted to eat, she could get better.
The kitchen was far away, and Green Willow was afraid of being late, so she ran there quickly. As luck would have it, fish was stewing on the stove. Without saying a word, she asked for some. Because she was a maid who had been given a name in the young master's room, she had some face, so there was no need for much talk. She was served a bowlful without any trouble, held it in her arms, and ran back quickly.
"Little sister, the soup is here, come and drink!"
Green Willow called out to them, but received no response. She paused for a moment, then quickly put down the soup bowl and went to check. What she saw shocked her greatly.
The person on the bed was still lying upright, but their head was tilted to one side on the pillow, and they had apparently passed out sometime during the night.
We need to get a doctor here right away! Where's Doctor Chu? Why hasn't he returned yet! It doesn't have to be Doctor Chu, as long as it's a doctor, we need a doctor!
It was incredibly frustrating. She rushed outside, tripped over the threshold, and fell flat on her face with a thud. It took her a while to slowly get up, clutching her arm and breathing heavily. She thought to herself, "What bad luck!" But she had more important things to do and didn't have time to think about anything else. She straightened up and was about to continue walking outside when she looked up and saw a whole courtyard full of people, all standing straight and staring at her intently. It was terrifying.
However, being startled like that also had its advantages; it jolted me back to my senses.
She can't go to get a doctor; we have to find someone else. She has to stay and take care of the patient.
A quick glance at the crowd, and I immediately had someone in mind.
"Fen'er, go to Yihetang quickly and tell the people there that we need a doctor here."
Upon hearing her words, Fen'er shifted her body, but instead of heading outside, she hid behind or beside others, lowering her head and not daring to look at Lü Yang.
This was something Green Willow hadn't expected.
This little girl named Fen'er is always clever and diligent. She usually takes on tasks that aren't hers to do, so there's no reason why she should ignore it now that she's been asked to.
Something must have happened.
It was really strange that so many people were watching her; something must be wrong, and it couldn't be anything good. Thinking this, Green Willow gradually started to panic.
When panicked, one's behavior becomes somewhat inappropriate.
"Fen'er! I'm calling you! Why aren't you moving!"
Shouting loudly is not because one is angry, but to bluff.
She was an extremely kind person, always with a smiling face. This was the first time she had ever acted like this. Fen'er hid behind others, huddled up in fear.
Fen'er was a pitiful child, raised on beatings and scoldings from her grandparents and parents. This instilled in her a habit of fawning over everyone she met, yet even so, she encountered few kind people. Lü Yang was a good man; from the moment they met, he treated her very well, speaking to her softly and gently, giving her snacks, and even mending her clothes…
Such a kind sister, Green Willow, yet she bullied her with others.
So Sister Green Willow got angry and yelled at her like that.
Fen'er felt wronged. She didn't want things to turn out this way. After all this commotion, would Sister Lvyang still treat her well in the future? Fen'er became scared.
"It wasn't me! It was Sister Ziyu! She told us that anyone who dares to step out of Guangyi Hall will be kicked out! Sister, it's not that I don't listen to you..."
It really was Ziyu; there was no one else but her.
Green Willow glared at him angrily, "What does this mean?"
Ziyu panicked for a moment, her eyes darting away, but she quickly regained her composure and glared back defiantly, "What do you mean? Of course, it means everyone should behave themselves! Is that wrong?"
Being law-abiding is certainly not wrong. Green Willow has never liked to assume malice in people. She believes that Purple Willow's original intention is good. However, "Human life is at stake. How can you not see a doctor when you're sick? It's just a matter of calling a doctor. What's the big deal? If something really happens, I'll take responsibility!" After saying that, she went to look at Fen'er. "Fen'er, hurry up! Don't delay!"
Fen'er still didn't move, but looked at Lv Yang with a worried and troubled expression, tears in her eyes.
Ziyu didn't speak, so she didn't dare to move.
Seeing her like this, Lvyang calmed down. Why make an innocent child suffer in the middle? Fen'er is young and even more timid, so it's better not to make things difficult for her.
"Alright! No need to trouble you, I'll go and talk to you myself!"
How could this be? If she really went over and said it, wouldn't all the effort she had put in be for nothing? She hadn't gotten what she wanted yet, so she had to stop her. But how? Ziyu couldn't think of a way, and panicked. She turned her head and glared at Bitao, questioning her with her eyes why she was still standing there.
Bitao certainly didn't want Lüyang to leave either. She couldn't stand seeing others do well. She couldn't be kind to anyone, nor did she want to see Lüyang do well. She always had the face of a good person, as if she was the only good person in the world.
Why should she be considered a good person?
nausea.
She cursed inwardly but smiled outwardly, took a few steps forward, grabbed Green Willow's sleeve, and said in a consoling tone, "Sister, don't be angry. Sister Ziyu is doing this for our own good. We're all in this together, sharing both honor and disgrace. If anyone makes a mistake, we'll all lose face. Do you want to be dragged down like that, sister? If you don't want to, then of course no one else does either. You said you'd take responsibility before, but that was just a boast. If something really happens, none of us can bear the burden. What do you say, sister? There's still a long road ahead."
Every word was kind, every phrase concerned, and meant to be for her sake, but Green Willow sneered, "If you're so afraid of something going wrong, then why did you stop me? If someone dies, does that mean it's not a problem?"
So what if someone dies? As long as it's not you who dies, it's no big deal.
"Sister, I'm advising you like this... Sister, I'm doing this for your own good! You absolutely mustn't go out! If you really go out, things will get complicated!"
Green Willow didn't understand what he meant. "What do you mean, 'can't explain'?"
Bitao sighed and said, "Sister, we've already gone to such lengths, and you're still insisting on going out. If this falls into the wrong hands, people will inevitably start to wonder... Sister, I'm afraid saying this might offend you... If you really insist on going out, you should have someone search you, just to avoid any gossip later... Sister, please don't blame me for being nosy, I'm only doing this for your own good..."
This wasn't just idle chatter. Hearing Bitao's words, Lüyang's heart pounded wildly. She had never considered this possibility before; it had to be said, Bitao was indeed very perceptive.
I have to thank her.
Thinking this, Lü Yang's tone unconsciously softened considerably. "It's kind of you to think of such a thorough approach. You're right, a body search is necessary, and I have nothing to say about it." She had nothing to hide, so a body search was fine.
So who will do the search?
Bitao smiled and said, "Then may I testify to your innocence, sister?"
Green Willow smiled and nodded, and opened her arms to the crowd.
How could we agree to let her out? What is Bitao up to? Who is she on?! Ziyu was so angry that her face turned red and her eyes were practically spitting fire. Suddenly, a thought flashed through her mind, and she realized something. She was stunned.
At this moment, Bitao was gently patting Ziyu's body with both hands. Suddenly, her hands stopped, and the smile on her face stiffened.
Why did we stop?
Just as Green Willow was about to ask a question, Peach Blossom casually started touching her again.
That's strange.
I can't figure out why.
Just then, she saw two little girls secretly glancing at her waist while whispering to each other with their mouths covered.
It's so strange, it makes you want to frown.
Suddenly, she realized something, and after a moment of stunned silence, her heart began to pound like a drum once again.
She heard Bitao say with a laugh, "I've finished searching, of course there's nothing there, sister, go on over there."
How do we get through this?
Her face was deathly pale, and her arms were trembling uncontrollably. It took her several attempts to finally manage to pull something out of her belt.
The jade piece, the size of a pigeon's egg, is tied with a braided cord and adorned with three additional crystal beads, with a tassel trailing behind.
It's not hung on the belt, it's a fan pendant, tied to the large ribs on both sides of the fan, or woven into the fan band and hung on the fan bag.
This is what Chengfeng told them today when they were compiling a catalog of Guangyitang's items.
