Couple's Flying Chess.

"Couple's Flying Chess".

8.

If possible, Lan Jian would prefer to sleep in the game room on the first floor rather than in her bedroom in Chongming.

Moreover, there really is a bed in the game room—Chongming sometimes stays up late playing games, so he knocked down the only remaining guest room on the first floor and sleeps directly in the game room when he's tired.

Playing video games is Chongming's only form of entertainment.

Although it sounds like a straight man's self-justification, Chongming believes that he is not obsessed with playing games; he just spends most of his leisure time playing games.

His family made him stay home every Friday to stop him from staying up all night playing games, so he wouldn't misbehave when he was alone. But Chongming rarely stayed up late playing games, unless a new map was released in a game or his teammates wouldn't let him go. Otherwise, playing games was just a way for him to pass the time.

In contrast, Meng Lanjian's interest in games stemmed more from curiosity and enjoyment of the interactive experience.

Chongming sometimes felt that Lanjian's personality was like a child's, sometimes competitive and sometimes clever and obedient.

The most childlike thing about her is that she's a bit clingy.

It wasn't the kind of clinginess that manifested in obvious physical contact, but rather that in unfamiliar environments, she would always subconsciously follow him, like a little tail, going wherever he went. Chongming noticed this quite early on, after they had been together for over a year.

After Chongming explained the layout of his bedroom to her, he left her alone in the room to unpack her luggage. Kelanjian followed him downstairs somewhat awkwardly, claiming she wanted to put the headset back. After Chongming took the headset, she still followed him all the way back to the game room. Chongming vaguely sensed her unease about being in his private space on the second floor, but he couldn't help her adjust.

Even Chongming himself took some time to convince himself to accept the diminished sense of privacy that came with the change in identity.

To outsiders, he and Lan Jian were still fellow disciples.

But after returning home, the reality that he and Lan Jian were married, as he opened the bedroom door for her, severed the boundary of another kind of relationship.

They were no longer a pair of innocent fellow disciples—once such a thought flashed through Chongming's mind, his heart would flutter with a strange excitement.

"Lanjian," Chongming finally put aside his underlying competitive feelings and said calmly to Lanjian, "Let's have a good talk!"

Lan Jian's watery eyes held a hint of doubt. Chongming gently stroked the top of her head a few times to reassure her. "As a newlywed couple, let's talk about our daily life going forward."

The first consensus reached between Chongming and Lanjian was to temporarily prevent anyone in the laboratory from discovering their marital relationship.

Xue Xiang did not stipulate that all students must stay in the lab from Monday to Friday. His requirements for students were entirely based on academics. Each student would report their progress at the group meeting every two weeks, and he would not interfere with where students wanted to do their research at other times.

So, aside from the weekly group meeting on Wednesdays and the lab-wide meeting which goes on quite late, the only other people who regularly appear in the lab are Senior Sister Hui and Ma Yuehe. Chongming and Lanjian usually arrive later than them, so as long as you leave the lab later than these two, you don't have to worry about being discovered leaving at the same time. But how to avoid appearing at the same time is a problem.

Lan Jian usually arrives at the lab at nine o'clock and leaves between five and six o'clock.

Chongming's work schedule is relatively late, usually between 10 and 11 am. They bring their breakfast and lunch to the lab and drive out to find food around 7 or 8 pm before heading home.

Now that the two are living together, Chongming doesn't mind adjusting his wake-up time and leaving home with Lanjian every day. However, once they arrive at school, they appear at the lab one after the other. This is fine once or twice, but daily...

If this goes on for too long, Senior Sister Hui, with her exceptionally keen gossip radar, will surely be the first to expose it.

"Or I could stay on campus three days a week and stay here for the other two days?"

"The wedding room in Shenhuali will be renovated after the New Year. That's the wedding room my mom prepared for us. She definitely wants us to move there. Rather than constantly changing where we live, it's better to appear in the lab at the same time from now on. If anyone asks, just say I'm going to teach you something and we've scheduled a time."

Chongming mentioned to Lanjian in the morning that they were going to move to Shenhuali after the Lunar New Year. Shenhuali is a newly developed villa complex in the city, located at the foot of Jinshan Mountain. It has a beautiful environment and excellent privacy. Although it is far from the downtown area, it only takes about 20 minutes to drive to Nanjing University via the expressway.

With the accommodation issue resolved, Lan Jian didn't have a driver's license from Nanlu, so she had to rely on Nanlu's well-developed public transportation or the kind and benevolent Senior Brother Chongming to get around. However, she was a homebody and didn't like going out much unless necessary.

As for meals...

The two had just begun discussing whether to continue eating out and resolutely refuse to cook, or to occasionally pretend to cook together to create a warm "home" atmosphere. The doorbell interrupted them.

When Chongming saw the hotel staff uniforms on the screen, he remembered that his mother had asked him to take Lanjian to a Michelin-starred restaurant that afternoon, but he had just forgotten about it. It seemed that his mother had made a reservation for them a long time ago, but the two of them stood them up, and the restaurant came to their door.

This Michelin-starred restaurant is renowned for its traditional cuisine that blends northern and southern Chinese styles. The dishes ordered by Chongming Mama were half from the north and half from the south, and even the desserts and fruits included both northern and southern flavors.

Northern-grown eight-treasure fruit is juicy, but not as sweet as that from the south. Lan Jian can't eat sour fruit, so Chongming helped her finish the remaining segments before calling someone to clear the table. After the waiter left, only the two of them remained in the room.

After the previous discussion was interrupted, Lan Jian lost interest in continuing. She yawned as she walked up the steps. "Chongming, I want to take a shower first."

"Okay, I'm going to play some games. If you're scared being alone on the second floor, just call me."

Lan Jian was simply unfamiliar with the new environment; she wasn't afraid.

After taking a shower, she lay in the soft quilt, which was filled with the scent of Chongming Island, and texted Xiuyun.

She asked Xiuyun what games could enhance the relationship between newlyweds.

Xiuyun sent her a video and a picture.

Lan Jian clicked on the picture first, which read in large characters: "Couple's Flying Chess".

Once she saw the small print on each square, she was so embarrassed that she immediately left the screen.

As for the videos, they're not much better.

The video shows a foreign couple. The boy is blindfolded, and the girl has five opened lollipops of different flavors. After licking the lollipops a few times, she kisses the boy and asks him to guess what flavor they are.

Meng Lanjian suddenly felt that there might not be such a rush to improve their relationship.

After playing on her phone for a while, Lan Jian heard the sound of the bedroom door opening. Chong Ming was taking a change of clothes from the closet by the entrance. He called out to Lan Jian and, after receiving a response, calmly raised his voice, "I'll sleep downstairs tonight. Don't stay up too late. We'll go out together tomorrow morning."

Lan Jian was not surprised at all that he would do that.

After all, he was Chongming, whom outsiders saw as almost "attaining immortality," a man of asceticism and restraint, always poised and composed, with impeccable character. If someone truly disliked him and wanted to belittle him, they could probably only offer comments like "aloof and reserved."

So Lan Jian knew that when he said he also wanted to have sex, he was just trying to scare her.
