Let's have sex!
Let's have sex!
10.
Having survived Wednesday's group meeting, the rest of the workdays went as smoothly as Chongming helping Lanjian debug.
On Thursday evening, Lan Jian packed her personal belongings, knowing she would be heading straight to Chongming's parents' house after leaving the lab the next day—Chongming had told her not to pack too many clothes, as his mother had already arranged a walk-in closet for her. Upon hearing this, Lan Jian lost the game to Chongming again.
She tossed the controller aside and said, somewhat annoyed, "This is so boring!"
Chongming watched as she shifted from her sprawled position to a wriggling caterpillar, wiggling closer to him. Her breath tickled his elbow, and he lowered his eyes to meet her mischievous gaze.
"otherwise……"
Chongming pricked up its ears, like a pair of uncontrollable tentacles, waiting for the right moment.
Let's have sex!
Upon hearing this, Chongming jumped up like a grasshopper.
They dodged the furry attack.
He held the handle up, pointed it at Meng Lanjian, and said through gritted teeth in a sinister tone, "Do you want to die?"
Meng Lanjian feigned innocence, saying, "Anyway, we'll have to sleep in the same bed tomorrow. We're going to die sooner or later."
How arrogant Meng Lanjian is!
Chongming casually tossed the controller onto the beanbag chair, then suddenly leaned over, pulling the other person beneath him. Their eyes were so close that it was impossible to catch any other expression—
They could only stare intently at each other.
Until one side backs down and is defeated.
"Meng Lanjian, do you really think I wouldn't dare to touch you?"
Chongming rarely called Lanjian by his full name. Lanjian would usually call him "Chongming Chongming" without any formality. He would only call him "senior" or "smart senior" when he needed something from him. Chongming's responses were always without any formal address.
Perhaps it was the overwhelming pressure from her "senior brother" that made Lan Jian shrug uncomfortably.
When she spoke again, her tone was noticeably weaker. "I didn't."
Chongming knew when to stop, but his hand was still itching. He lightly tapped Meng Lanjian's nose and said, "You little ingrate."
He then called me "heartless"—
Meng Lanjian sighed silently in his heart.
On Friday evening at 6 p.m., after a long traffic jam, the newlywed couple, who had left the lab at 4:30 p.m., finally arrived at their parents' house in Chongming before dinner.
Many relatives came to visit, and each one of them greeted Chongming and Lanjian with "Chongming, Chongming's wife," leaving Lanjian completely bewildered.
"What 'Chongming daughter-in-law'? She has a proper name, why do you have to call her by your grand-nephew's nickname?"
Amidst the cacophony of voices and chatter, a clear female voice broke through the lively and somewhat noisy atmosphere. The relatives surrounding Lan Jian and his wife consciously made way for the newcomer, splitting into two groups.
A woman with her hair styled in an updo, wearing a cheongsam with ochre and mink trim, walked gracefully toward Lanjian.
"Lanjian, come to me."
Ming Zijuan waved to her daughter-in-law, her demeanor composed and elegant, her every move exuding an extraordinary air. From afar, she saw Lan Jian, who was being held in her son's arms. Lan Jian had delicate and refined features, and her eyes were calm and gentle, as if she were used to such scenes.
Before Chongming released Lanjian, they gazed at each other for a fleeting moment. Lanjian instantly understood the words written in his eyes—
That's his mother.
It was her mother-in-law, whom she had never met, who had already made perfect arrangements to protect her.
Lan Jian grasped Ming Zijuan's palm the moment she reached out.
Although she was clearly over forty, Ming Zijuan's hands were still delicate and smooth. Lan Jian liked the feel of them, and she couldn't help but lean over and gently hug Ming Zijuan to express her gratitude.
"I'm so glad to finally meet you, Mama."
That "mama" came without much hesitation.
This left Ming Zijuan stunned for a moment.
She once bought a pair of jade butterfly brooches. Jade, a type of gemstone, is commonly used to make bracelets, earrings, and necklaces, but brooches are rare. One butterfly was depicted sideways gathering nectar, with only two wings on one side; the other had both wings spread, exuding a subtle yet powerful vitality and courage. She had pinned the sideways butterfly to her daughter's scarf before sending her abroad, as a reminder to avoid philandering. Her daughter asked her about the other butterfly.
One?
"Another butterfly," Ming Zijuan responded to Lan Jian's gentle embrace, stroking her back a few times. Glancing out of the corner of her eye at Chongming, who stood not far away with a slightly bewildered expression, she smiled and replied—
"Oh, my goodness."
Ming Zijuan thought, "The other butterfly has finally pounced on her."
The last person to arrive at the family dinner was Lu Jie. Still in his military uniform, he arrived travel-worn, only to be met with sarcastic remarks from his wife and son, whose specialty was performing comedic skits. This scene left the newlywed bride, Meng Lanjian, dumbfounded—
At home, Lu Jie was meek and submissive, a stark contrast to the imposing "Major General Lu" who pressured her into marriage when they first met.
Lu Jie came and went in a hurry, and after finishing his meal, he went back to the Southern Army base for a meeting.
The remaining aunts and uncles urged Ming Zijuan to play mahjong together.
Chongming's villa was ridiculously large, with seven floors above ground and two below. The game room and media room were both on the basement level. Lanjian was tricked by Ming Zijuan into playing mahjong, but Lanjian didn't know how to play and just sat on the sidelines with her. Chongming never participated in this activity; he took his fruit platter and went next door to watch a movie.
The chess and card room was filled with laughter and chatter, but the soundproofing in the audiovisual room was surprisingly good; as soon as Chongming closed the door, all the noise was shut out.
He lay on the large bed in the audiovisual room, watching the space movie projected on the screen, his thoughts drifting far away.
The marriage came as a surprise.
His parents had never interfered in his love life in the past, but they were always tight-lipped about his marriage, never revealing anything to him. When he learned that his arranged marriage partner was actually a junior colleague from the lab, Chongming's worldview was severely shaken.
If a bucket of water is poured over your head, you still have the strength to wipe your face and wipe away the water stains. Even if it's a downpour, the water droplets won't knock you unconscious. But the shock of marrying Lan Jian goes straight to your heart.
A heart beating steadily and rhythmically was suddenly swept by a high-pressure water gun. The water, meant to extinguish the fire, washed away the rhythm of the heart, causing even the composed Chongming to lose his nonchalant calm.
Two senior and junior classmates, who are entangled in their studies and spend every day together in their daily lives, are actually a newlywed couple forced into an arranged marriage.
The night before, his newlywed junior sister had provoked him by saying, "Let's have sex."
What kind of mess is this...?
Chongming's thoughts raced through his mind, yet he couldn't find a solution for the time being. Someone was knocking on the door. Chongming opened it and saw Meng Lanjian, looking troubled.
"What's wrong?"
"Mom lost a lot, so she asked me to call you to switch hands."
"Aren't you a newbie? Why didn't she ask a lucky newbie to help her?"
“I drew cards for her, but after several rounds, my luck was still not as good as hers. My cousin asked me to come to the table and play a round, and I even got a ‘sweet win’.”
Upon hearing "Master," Chongming knew that Lanjian lacked the card-counting skills for the game and had even gotten the fixed number of cards wrong. He chuckled, paused the movie, and pushed Lanjian towards the next room, saying, "Come on, let's go and put those aunties in their place!"
The couple entered the house hand in hand, and were teased by several people who were playing cards.
The old lady from Chongming was a master of affectation, exclaiming, "Oh my, who's here? What a rare guest!"
Ming Zijuan chimed in, "That's true."
“Every time we ask this young master to play mahjong, he just says he doesn’t want to, which makes us angry and we run away. How come he suddenly gets so enthusiastic after getting married?”
"Cousin, what you're saying is really unreasonable. If you hadn't taken advantage of my wife's inability to fight, and instead pinned all the debts on my mother, wouldn't I have stood up for justice?"
The group burst into laughter, and the older cousin offered her seat to Chongming and Lanjian. Chongming gestured for Lanjian to sit down, but Lanjian hesitated, saying, "I'm too bad at this!"
She whispered in his ear, "Even worse than writing code."
“What are you afraid of?” Chongming calmly settled down behind her. “With me, the truth-teller, here, how could I not save you, this sham husband who’s making a fool of yourself?!”
What truth is this, a mere pretense of justice!
Lan Jian angrily bumped his knee, but her tone was incredibly soft, "What should I do first?"
My cousin, who was holding a bowl of sweet soup by the coffee table, almost choked on her peach gum when she saw this.
Chongming, oh Chongming, it seems we've finally met our match.
