Chapter 4: Curious June, baby face, mountainous areas are easy to...
It's June, and it's baby-faced. It rains easily in the mountains, and this summer's heavy rains can last for several days. After waiting for the rain to stop, the whole house is filled with the smell of dampness.
Fortunately, the temperature dropped a lot, and Su Huaiwang took out the spring coat she had just taken off and put it on.
In the afternoon, the dark clouds covering the top of the mountain finally dispersed, and the whole family could come out to bask in the sun and get rid of the moisture.
The warm afternoon sun shone into the courtyard. Su Huaiwang was lying on a recliner, covered with a small quilt and the thick weight of Mimi. He was drowsy, and his hand was occasionally tapping the head of the dog lying under the recliner.
Grandma Chen, carrying a hoe, passed by and called out to her, "Get some sun!"
The old lady's voice was so loud that it woke Su Huaiwang from her drowsy state. She supported herself with her limp arms and sat up a little: "Well, grandma, do you want to come with us?"
Grandma Chen skillfully pushed open the small gate in the fence, holding a large cabbage with soil on it in her hand: "Here, freshly picked from the fields, I'll give you some."
"Thank you, grandma." Su Huaiwang yawned, still curled up in the recliner and not wanting to move. Mimi in his arms didn't even raise her head.
The Chinese cabbage was placed in the corner. Grandma Chen often brought her vegetables grown at home. At first, Su Huaiwang was very nervous, but now she can naturally accept other people's enthusiasm.
"Hey, can you help me check why the volume of my cell phone is so low?" Grandma Chen sat down on the recliner next to Su Huaiwang, took off her hat to fan herself, and took out an old-fashioned cell phone with a frown.
Su Huaiwang stretched his head over and pressed a button on the old phone. After a while, the thunderous Errenzhuan music sounded again on the phone.
"Oh, thank you so much. My hearing is getting worse day by day. If there weren't young people like you in the village, we old people don't know what to do!" Grandma Chen gave her a thumbs up.
The old man's praise was always direct and enthusiastic. Su Huaiwang had never thought that doing such a simple thing could gain recognition from others.
"That's not possible. Grandma, you are still very healthy and your mind works quickly. Let your grandson teach you. You will learn it quickly."
"They are all busy, they don't have time to care about the affairs of an old woman like me!" Grandma Chen waved her hand: "By the way, how are you getting along with that girl?" Grandma Chen's eyes were mischievous, and it was obvious that she was curious.
"What do you mean by getting along..." Su Huaiwang subconsciously glanced at the house not far away, and quickly looked away.
We didn't spend much time together during the day, but we did spend a lot of time together at night, Su Huaiwang thought miserably.
However, they hadn't been spending much time together in recent days, as Su Huaiwang's moral compass had taken precedence. She had reluctantly given up her harmless hobby, and her erotic dreams had actually stopped. But because of this, she'd been having some insomnia these past few days, and the dark circles under her eyes had become more pronounced.
"That little girl is pretty, but she's so cold." Grandma Chen sighed, "She seems to be very interested in you. What's the matter? She doesn't interact with you?"
"Are you interested in me?" Su Huaiwang's last bit of sleepiness was dispelled.
"Yes, the first question she asked me was whether there were any young people on the mountain. After I said you were one of them, she asked many other questions. Isn't this because she is very interested in you?"
Su Huaiwang thought for a moment, and finally shook his head: "I don't know, I haven't seen her much."
"Hey, why is such a nice little girl so bored? You're older than her, so you should take her out to play more often. A little girl will get bored staying in the house all by herself!"
Su Huaiwang smiled but didn't answer. Grandma Chen kept muttering to herself:
"But it's true. She's so young and moved here alone. I don't know if there's something wrong with her. I'm not talking about you, Xiaowang. Look at her. She usually doesn't go out or do anything. Isn't it strange?"
If they continued chatting like the village aunties discussing gossip, they would soon be imagining many problems with Lin Jue. Su Huaiwang felt that she couldn't just sit back and watch.
"It's not surprising, right? Many people in the city are like this. Why should I care about what they do?" After living here for a long time, Su Huaiwang also learned some local accents. The teasing remark he just made was unconsciously made in the local dialect.
As soon as she said this, she was a little stunned and felt a little uneasy.
When her parents were alive, they didn't allow her to learn the dialect.
But this uneasiness was soon washed away by reality.
Grandma Chen didn't notice that something was wrong with her. She rubbed her head awkwardly and said, "That's right, that's right. It's normal for an old woman like me, in my seventies, not to understand you young people..."
Su Huaiwang quickly tried to save face: "Although she doesn't like to go out, she is a very nice person. She even gave me a handmade sachet."
The sachet is still hanging on the wall of Su Huaiwang's bedroom. She doesn't know if it's an illusion, but every time she smells the fragrance, she feels calm.
Grandma Chen's somewhat depressed mood lifted again, and she said cheerfully, "That's right. I was saying, how could such a pretty kid be a bad person? If you two get to know each other more, maybe you can become good friends!"
Su Huaiwang knew that Grandma Chen's subtext was that she couldn't stand her being alone, so she smiled and said, "Maybe."
"Okay! I have something else to do, so I'll just sit here for a while and then leave!" Grandma Chen stood up from the recliner, and patted Xiao Huang's head twice with her rough big hands. Xiao Huang barked happily.
Seeing Grandma Chen's back gradually disappearing under the cover of the fence, Su Huaiwang breathed a sigh of relief, twisted his neck, and caught a glimpse of a figure standing outside the fence out of the corner of his eye.
It’s Lin Jue.
Lin Jue, whom she hadn't seen for a long time, looked a little scary at first glance. He was wearing a white dress and black hair, with a smile on his face, staring at her intently.
Su Huaiwang was stunned, staring at her stiffly until Lin Jue pointed at the fence door: "Can I come in?"
Su Huaiwang finally reacted: "Yes, yes, of course. Come in and sit down. There is a hook on the door. Move the hook and the door will open."
Lin Jue moved her feet, and the small flowers wrapped around the fence rubbed against her waist, soft and tough.
Su Huaiwang cursed herself inwardly, thinking that she was really stupid because of having a sex dream. She felt a little restless, not knowing whether it would be better to stand up or continue lying down to appear that she had less guilty conscience.
The kitten on her body was awakened by her movements. It meowed softly and looked around. The moment it saw Lin Jue, its eyes widened and it grabbed Su Huaiwang's clothes and tried to get inside.
"Mimi?!" The T-shirt Su Huaiwang was wearing was very loose. When it was pulled, the collar fell open and the round furry head was stuffed directly into the collar.
Su Huaiwang took great pains to pull the cat out of his collar. When he looked up, he saw Lin Jue already in front of him, looking down at him with a smile.
No, how could she walk so fast?
Su Huaiwang's first reaction was to pull her coat over her collar, but the next second she felt that this would only make things more obvious and even more embarrassing.
But the damage was done, so she clutched her coat and said, "Sit, sit over here."
Lin Jue didn't say anything, but just sat on the recliner that Grandma Chen had just left.
Unlike the gruff old man in the countryside, the slender girl lying on the recliner looked like a pool of water wrapped in bamboo. Su Huaiwang was a little dazed.
At this moment, Mimi, whose lifeblood was being strangled, howled, kicked Su Huaiwang hard with its hind legs, and fled in panic.
Su Huaiwang cried out in pain, and Lin Jue immediately squatted in front of her, his beautiful eyebrows raised like mountains: "Are you okay?"
She stretched out her hand, as if wanting to lift up Su Huaiwang's clothes to see the wound on his abdomen. Su Huaiwang was so frightened that he stopped pressing his collar and covered his abdomen with both hands:
"It's okay, it's okay! The cat just stepped on it, it's nothing!"
"That's all?" Lin Jue's smile faded. She glanced at the kitten shivering in the corner and asked, "Does it do this often?"
Su Huaiwang didn't know what had touched her nerves, but she keenly felt that Lin Jue was in a bad mood. She quickly waved her hand and said:
"No! It's usually very well behaved! Maybe, maybe it's because there's going to be an earthquake!"
As soon as these words were spoken, both of them froze in silence.
Lin Jue burst out laughing, and Su Huaiwang's hand was still frozen in mid-air.
"Indeed, small animals will become more agitated when an earthquake is about to happen." Lin Jue said seriously, echoing her words.
Su Huaiwang's overloaded brain finally came to her senses. She put her hand down with a gloomy face: "Yeah..." Why did she say such a thing?
"Do you... know the dish called Dragon and Tiger Fight?"
"What?" Lin Jue didn't react at first, but then he realized what was happening and couldn't help laughing: "I've never killed a cat."
Su Huaiwang sighed: "They seem a little afraid of you."
She hooked her finger at Mimi, and Mimi huddled in the corner, trembling and not daring to move.
"Indeed," Lin Jue didn't look at the wayward cat, but instead fixed his gaze on Su Huaiwang, who had temporarily stopped paying attention to her. "Because of this, I have also been very sad."
She said casually, further improving the past she presented.
Su Huaiwang raised his head slightly to look at her, and his usually dull eyes widened because of this action.
Cuter than that cat. Lin Jue thought calmly. From her perspective, it was hard for her to understand why Su Huaiwang wanted to keep a cat and a dog.
She glanced again at the three creatures in the yard besides the two of them and felt that they were just an eyesore.
But Su Huaiwang liked them, and she felt that she should like them as much as possible, although it was unlikely.
She squatted down and clapped her hands towards Dahui, the bravest one.
Big Gray shrank his huge body, his fur stood up, and he growled at her threateningly.
Lin Jue pretended not to see it, stood up again, and sat back on the recliner that Su Huaiwang had designated for her.
"Were you talking about me just now?" Lin Jue asked.
Su Huaiwang's body stiffened. What could be more embarrassing than being overheard by the person himself while talking about gossip?
"Yeah, but we didn't talk about anything bad. People in the countryside don't have much entertainment, so we can only talk about the newcomers. Don't mind it, Grandma Chen is just a little curious about you."
Su Huaiwang was organizing her words. She didn't know what Lin Jue had heard, and she didn't have time to think about why they hadn't noticed Lin Jue after chatting for so long.
Lin Jue smiled: "I don't really care, I'm just a little curious."
"What are you curious about?"
"I'm curious what you think of me."
After a heavy blow, Su Huaiwang was stunned.
Is this something they should discuss? Even more so, is this something they should discuss at this stage?
