Chapter 06. Xinyu

Chapter 06. Xinyu

"Well, it's a bit troublesome. I've been keeping an eye on the data these days. And another wind turbine has a similar problem."

On the last day in Tianjin, Ke Fan sat down in the office for a meeting early in the morning.

She was looking through the information she had collected over the past few days, her brows furrowed as she reported to the man on the computer screen.

"I suspect it's not a problem with the turbine structure, but perhaps it's related to the seabed foundation. I'm afraid it's seabed subsidence..."

The man on screen is mature and handsome, with deep features and an air of experience and maturity. He has a neat beard, which adds a bit of stability to his temperament.

It was Ke Fan’s direct supervisor, Li Chengjin, who was also the second-in-command of Hai City Wind Power Station.

He pondered for a moment, then nodded and said, "When you come back, we'll test the seabed samples and we should have a definitive answer. By the way, there was a similar case in Yang City before. I'll find the case file and send it to you later."

Ke Fan agreed, but his brows were still furrowed, and he was a little worried that more wind turbines would be affected.

Seeing her like this, Li Chengjin probably knew what she was thinking and smiled gently: "Okay, young as you are, stop frowning. Solve the problem at hand first and then think about the rest."

His features were tough, but when he smiled, those sharp edges softened, making him appear gentle and elegant. "Have you bought your high-speed rail ticket back to Hai City?"

"Yes, I've bought the tickets for the evening. Ji Hang will go back with me."

"This kid, I'm afraid he's going to be very happy this time."

"Yeah, I took about a thousand photos of the wind turbines the first day I saw them."

When talking about Ji Hang, this little funny guy, both of them had a relaxed and happy smile in their eyes.

After chatting for a few more sentences, Li Chengjin hung up the video.

The next second, Ji Hang pushed the door open and came in, angrily saying, "Sister Xiaofan, I heard everything!"

Ke Fan's brows relaxed, and he asked knowingly, "What did you hear?"

“I didn’t take a thousand pictures!”

"Oh, so you took nine hundred and ninety-nine photos?"

"Puchi" Lao Xie's uncontrollable laughter came from the office next door.

"Old Xie----!" Ji Hang ran to the next room like a gust of wind again.

After closing the computer, she stretched for the first time in a long time.

Although the problem was not completely solved, some progress was made and the business trip finally came to an end.

Looking out the window, the sunlight fills every inch of my vision, the soft golden light dances on the window frames, and the sky is as blue as the sky, so clean that one can't help but want to reach out and touch it.

She was stunned for a moment, then she realized that since she came to Jinshi, it seemed that every day had such bright and beautiful weather.

Jinshi is very different from Haishi, as it rains all year round.

Ke Fan picked up his mobile phone and pressed the shutter button at the brilliant scenery outside the window.

I opened WeChat and sent it to the first person on the pinned list.

The other party replied immediately: "Good job, you haven't replied to my WeChat messages these days. Did you think of me when you were looking at the beautiful scenery?"

Ke Fan replied with a little man sitting obediently.

Cao Xinyu sent a little bunny with rolled eyes: "Are you done?"

"I'm done now. I'll be back tonight. Miss Cao, would you be so kind as to have dinner with me?"

The little rabbit that rolled its eyes turned into a little rabbit that smiled and nodded: "That's more like it."

When the high-speed train returned to Haishi, it was drizzling.

Fortunately, when Li Chengjin hung up the video, he specifically reminded her that it would rain in Hai City tonight, so Ke Fan asked Lao Xie for two umbrellas in advance.

After parting with Ji Hang, Ke Fan called a taxi and shared the itinerary with Cao Xinyu on WeChat: "Get in, white car, license plate number ending in 413, see you later."

The lights came on and the neon lights gradually lit up. The car drove through the rain and soon stopped in front of an elegantly decorated Suzhou cuisine restaurant.

Before I stopped, I saw a petite and lovely girl standing at the restaurant door with an umbrella.

Ke Fan opened the car door and the girl immediately came forward and protected the half of her body that was sticking out under his umbrella.

The girl smiled sweetly, revealing two dimples: "It came quite quickly."

Ke Fan blinked his eyes: "Miss Cao is waiting for me, how dare I not hurry?"

As she spoke, she took out her umbrella: "It's okay, no need to hold it for me, I brought an umbrella."

Cao Xinyu clicked her tongue twice and said with satisfaction, "Not bad, you've made progress. You know how to take care of yourself."

Seeing Ke Fan get out of the car with only a backpack in his hand, she asked again: "Is the luggage in the trunk?"

"Yeah." Ke Fan nodded and greeted the driver in the front seat: "Master, please open the trunk."

"Okay little girl, I won't get out of the car because it's raining. Please take it yourself."

The trunk popped open.

"I'll do it, I'll do it." Cao Xinyu took out the box quickly and closed the car door.

Although Ke Fan is taller, the petite Cao Xinyu always takes care of her out of habit.

Seeing such a caring friend, Ke Fan felt a surge of warmth in his heart, and he rarely said in a coquettish voice: "Thank you Xinyu~"

Cao Xinyu wrinkled her nose and said, "What are you doing? Stop it."

The two smiled at each other, and a silent warmth surged. The next second, Cao Xinyu's true personality of the little devil beneath her sweet appearance was revealed:

"But it's always raining in Hai City, so I can't stay here any longer. I'm going to get moldy if I don't see the sun anymore!"

As she continued to mutter, the two of them walked into the restaurant.

Not long after we sat down, the waiter quickly brought out the juicy squirrel fish, the braised pork with bean curd sheets in a rich sauce, and the restaurant's specialty, the stir-fried pork with garlic chives. The garlic chives were shiny and the pork slices were covered in the sweet and fresh broth.

When things get busy, Ke Fan loves to eat Suzhou cuisine at this restaurant. Cao Xinyu knows her favorite dishes very well, so she orders them in advance.

Seeing the other person's eyes light up, she asked with a hint of amusement, "You're thinking about this so much? What did you eat during your stay in Jinshi?"

Ke Fan picked up a chopstick full of stir-fried pork with garlic shoots. The garlic shoots were fragrant and the pork slices were sweet. He ate it with rice in one bite, and it seemed as if the fatigue from working non-stop for several days was smoothed out.

She wrapped a mouthful of food and mumbled, "I basically ate in the canteen at the wind power institute. I've been busy looking at data these past few days."

After taking the first bite of her favorite dish, she turned her chopsticks to the squirrel mandarin fish, which has a sweet and sour taste and is also her favorite.

Ke Fan picked up a piece of tender white fish and dipped it in tomato sauce. He thought for a moment, "Speaking of which, Jinshi's seafood is quite famous. I can try the local seafood next time I go back."

Cao Xinyu put down her chopsticks and turned to look at her in surprise: "Why do you want to go back? I thought you were done."

Ke Fan was contentedly swallowing the crispy, tender, sweet and sour fish. Upon hearing this, his tone became a little serious: "The problem is a little more troublesome than I expected. I brought the samples back for analysis. Once I get the results, I should go back again in a few days."

Cao Xinyu looked at the girl opposite her, whose expression had relaxed, and then frowned again. She said quickly, "Okay, okay, let's not talk about work. Let's eat."

She also took a piece of squirrel fish with chopsticks, tilted her head and smiled at Ke Fan, revealing two dimples: "I just like to see the look of enjoyment on your face when you eat something delicious. It's completely different from your usual self, as if the iceberg has melted."

Ke Fan pursed his lips and smiled: "What iceberg has melted? This is the awe of food, okay?"

By the end of the meal, most of the dishes on the table had been cleared away, leaving only scattered leftovers on the plates and bowls.

The two of them chatted and laughed until they calmed down.

Cao Xinyu looked at Ke Fan's gentle eyes and thought for a while. Some words had been lingering in her mind for a long time, and she had to ask.

"Then will you meet him again next time you return to Jinshi?"

Ke Fan seemed to have expected this, her expression remained calm. She lowered her head and thought for a long time, remaining silent.

After a while, she finally raised her eyes and looked at her friend.

The rain outside the window was getting heavier and heavier, and it didn't stop for a moment until she got a taxi home.

Looking through the car window, the whole city seemed to be shrouded in a curtain of water. The colorful lights gradually melted in the rain and fog, transforming into a delicate watercolor painting.

The sound of the pattering rain blocked out all the noise, and everything outside the car window became quiet and distant. Inside the car, an old song from the last century drifted out from the radio.

Ke Fan wiped the mist on the car window with her fingers. The coldness of the glass in the rain made her tremble slightly, as if she had touched some kind of frozen shell.

Under the sunset that day, those deep and incomprehensible black eyes appeared before her eyes again.

She was not unaware of the cold distance he deliberately maintained.

Just like the extremely cold glass at this moment, it is filled with fog, making it impossible to see what is behind the glass.

Ke Fan flicked his fingers and touched the scratch that was about to disappear.

As she persisted in wiping repeatedly, the tiny scratch was finally melted by the warmth of her fingers and gradually became clearer. Through it, she could see the hazy buildings in the distance.

My thoughts returned to the box just now and the last question Cao Xinyu asked.

At that time, Ke Fan just sat quietly without answering, and suddenly changed the subject:

"Xinyu, you know, I'm working on a very difficult project recently. It's one of the most unsure projects I've ever done."

After a pause, her eyes were dark and her tone was firm: "But I can definitely do it well, right?"

Cao Xinyu looked at her thoughtfully, without asking any further questions, and said sincerely, "I will definitely succeed immediately."

The glass, where Ke Fan's fingers repeatedly touched it, gradually grew warm. No matter how much rain accumulated, he could always clearly see the distant buildings through it.

The light and shadows swayed slightly in the rain, and through the scratches, it was as if through a thin layer of ice shell, you could see the scene hidden under the huge iceberg.

Of course you will succeed immediately.

Ke Fan closed his eyes.

The screen of the phone on the car seat next to her lit up, and a new email notification appeared in her personal email account.

From an account across the ocean:
