1.3 Is Lao Chang in love? (1/2)

The murderer was a teenager who had a miserable childhood. After his father died, he was imprisoned in a dog cage and abused by his stepfather.

Later, his stepmother remarried and moved to another place. The boy finally escaped from the world and prepared to start a new life with his sister, but he found that his sister had already been seriously ill.

All the money in the family had already been taken away by Ji Li. He was unable to afford his sister's medical treatment and could only watch her die in front of him.

The young man was completely desperate and wanted to commit suicide by jumping into the lake, but he unexpectedly met a kind-hearted woman who rescued him, and the two spent some time together.

But just when he had rekindled his hope for life, a group of bullies came to his door. He then learned that the woman had escaped from marriage, and the bullies had found her whereabouts, and wanted to take her back home to get married.

The young man failed to stop the attack and was knocked unconscious. When he woke up, he saw the woman's dead body in front of him.

The boy went completely mad, picked up a hatchet, followed the footprints to find the bullies, and started hacking and killing them while it was dark.

Now that he had killed someone, he no longer had any scruples and simply returned to his hometown. Along the way, he asked around for where his stepmother had remarried and then went to her house - still using the same hatchet to kill stepmother's family and two young children.

After killing the man, he did not flee, but sat in a sea of blood waiting for the authorities to arrive, hoping only to be brought to justice and die quickly.

Si Yue left the Ministry of Justice prison that day and did not go to the Dali Temple for duty for three whole days. It was not until Si Ying noticed something was wrong and rushed home that she saw her standing on the roof of the small building.

Si Ying then realized that she was influenced by the death row teenager, and put herself in that experience, falling into agony and unable to extricate herself, so she hurried to save him.

During the process, Si Yue sprained her foot, but fortunately no bones were injured.

Si Yue is very popular in the Dali Temple. Everyone is very concerned about her situation and after learning about it, they take turns trying to counsel her.

However, Si Yue's innate empathy was too strong, and the boy's experience was too tragic. Her colleagues who came to enlighten her not only failed to help her get rid of her pain, but some of them were even slightly influenced by her.

Chang Yunxiao came in person.

He sat opposite Si Yue and listened to her crying for half an hour, describing the boy's tragic experience with deep emotion.

After Si Yue finished speaking, she was surprised to find that Chang Yunxiao was looking at her with his hands folded.

On his slightly pale face, there was no expression of either sadness or joy, without any fluctuation.

Si Yue couldn't believe that there were such cold-blooded people in the world, and couldn't help but ask an inappropriate question:

"Master Terako, do you have a heart of stone?!"

How could he remain indifferent to such a tragic story!

"I admit that his experience is worthy of sympathy." Chang Yunxiao spoke in a calm voice.

"But what you are doing now, other than replicating his misery, does it have any practical significance?"

“……?” Si Yue was puzzled.

Chang Yunxiao's voice was calm and clear:

"He killed those bullies and Jiqi. Although it is a capital crime, his case is sympathetic and his sentence may be reduced.

But after killing his stepmother, he did not spare her family and even pushed two children into the water and drowned them. Such behavior is punishable by death.

If you turn yourself into him, you can neither change his inevitable death nor bring back the tragically dead. You even nearly caused the Dali Temple to lose a useful talent, and the atmosphere of decadence was pervasive.

You studied hard to become an official, is this your original intention? "

Si Yue was stunned after hearing this, and subconsciously thought about Chang Yunxiao's words, with a confused look on his face.

She thought back to what she had been thinking and doing over the past few days, and when she counted them all, it was just as Chang Siqing said...

It does all kinds of harm and no benefits.

But shouldn't it be a kind thing to empathize with other people's experiences?

If you show mercy, it will be useless and will only bring you evil.

So what is the point of doing this?

Chang Yunxiao on the opposite side was already preparing to get up and leave.

"Wait, sir!" Si Yue suddenly raised his head, "You just said... talents that can be used?"

There was a cautious gleam in her eyes.

Not long ago, he was driven out of the crime scene by this Lord Temple Minister and was not allowed to participate in the on-site investigation.

Chang Yunxiao did not answer directly, but just said calmly:

"Your ability to perceive emotions differently from ordinary people is your talent, and also a weapon.

It's a matter of one thought whether the knife controls you or you hold the knife. You have to think it through."

After saying that, Chang Yunxiao stopped looking at her and turned away.

The sound of the moving carriage brought Si Yue back to her senses. Chang Yunxiao was still sitting quietly beside her.

"Sir, I have thought it through." Si Yue said.

Chang Yunxiao said, "Hmm," and said, "Just think it through."

Si Yue sat up straight, looking serious:

"My Lord, I will be at the Ministry of Justice today. I... would like to visit some death row prisoners with similar cases in the Tianzi-shaped cells."

Chang Yunxiao turned his head to look at her, and couldn't help but frown, with a hint of unhappiness in his eyes.
