Chapter 1 Misstep

"Bang! Bang!"

A rough knocking came from outside the door, making Yao Ma's eyelids twitch even more. She tried to stand up but almost fell. Her daughter, Yao Tongjia, caught her and said, "I'll go open the door!"

As soon as the door opened, a bloodied figure lay on a simple wooden frame. Even more horrifying, a stick was stuck in the figure's chest, and blood dripped down the frame, staining the floor.

Yao Tongjia rushed to greet them, exclaiming in surprise, "Master, Master, what happened to you?"

Xiao Yan, who usually greets everyone with a smile, now had a faint gray tinge on her face. The visual impact was so great that Yao Tongjia felt as if her heart had been struck, and her ears were ringing.

Are all the cannon fodder going to die one by one for the male and female leads?

But this is the master who has smiled at me and treated me gently for the past six months, not some fictional character!

The makeshift bed was placed on the ground, and the two men who had carried the person slumped down on the ground. They didn't look good either, covered in mud from head to toe, as if they had been rolling in mud.

One of the men caught his breath: "Village Doctor Xiao, she was picking herbs when she lost her footing and fell halfway down the mountain. A tree branch pierced her chest. Luckily, my brother and I were nearby, and we went down and pulled her up."

When Yao's mother saw her friend being carried in, her legs went weak, and she barely managed to walk over, supporting herself against the walls and chairs. Seeing her friend's pitiful state, her vision blurred.

"Swallow, Swallow, how are you? I, I'll take you to the county town!"

Xiao Yan didn't react at all, but the man couldn't bear it: "It would take at least three hours to get to the county town by oxcart, and besides, there aren't any oxcarts left at this time. Look how fast she's bleeding..."

The man didn't finish his sentence, but his meaning was clear. He pulled his brother up and said, "We brothers will take our leave now. Should I go find the village secretary?"

At that moment, the Yao family mother and daughter were pounding their hearts and their ears were ringing so badly that they couldn't hear anything anyone was saying. So no one answered the man's question. The man walked out the door on his own, told his brother to go home and cook, and went to find the village secretary to explain the situation.

The Yao mother and daughter were indeed in a state of confusion. Yao Tongjia had been learning from her master for the past six months, but her learning time was still short, and she really didn't know how to handle the situation. All she could do was get some hemostatic powder, sprinkle it on the wound, and then see what happened.

But she really didn't know what to do with that branch. Yao Yanxin's hands and feet trembled as she lifted her clothes to look, and there it was, right in her heart. Her friend's life was truly beyond saving!

Even if we manage to get the person to the county hospital, the doctors there can't perform heart surgery. Even in major hospitals in Beijing, they might not be able to perform such surgery.

With red eyes, she looked at her daughter and said, "You, you go and bring your brother Xiao here right now. His mother, his mother is going to die!"

Yao Tongjia closed her eyes: "Mom, you go out first, I'll treat you. You go outside first, and don't let anyone in!"

Yao's mother looked at her daughter suspiciously: "Didn't you just learn to recognize medicinal herbs? You know how to treat them?"

"Are you just going to try anything, even if it seems hopeless, or are you just going to watch your master die?"

These words made Yao's mother immediately stand up: "You, you see how to treat it!"

Watching Yao's mother walk away, Yao Tongjia conjured a cup of water out of thin air, pressed acupoints, and poured it down her master's throat. Fortunately, her master had taught her how to administer medicine, otherwise she wouldn't have known how to do it.

As soon as she drank the spiritual spring water, her blood flow slowed down quickly, and Yao Tongjia felt more at ease.

How do we remove the branch from the heart? Just pull it out? Won't blood spurt out? Will Master die instantly?

She hesitated on the branch for a long time, still not daring to move it. She looked at her master's face, which seemed to have lost its grayness and turned pale.

Let's wait until Master wakes up before we talk about it! Yao Tongjia took another cup of spiritual spring water and poured it down Master's throat. After waiting a while, Master's complexion seemed to have improved a bit.

Yao Tongjia smiled bitterly. If things had changed much earlier in the modern world, would her mother have been saved? Would she not have been transported to this era?

Just then, I heard footsteps and quickly put the cup away.

It was Yao Ma who brought Xiao Yan's son, Xiao Gengwu, over. Xiao Gengwu was pulled over, his face and eyes full of resistance. If the situation hadn't been urgent, Yao Ma wouldn't have gone to pull Xiao Gengwu over herself.

When Xiao Gengwu saw Yao Tongjia, he broke free from Yao's mother's hand and sat behind Yao Tongjia, trying to hide behind her.

Yao Tongjia is only 165 cm tall, while Xiao Gengwu is 180 cm tall. No matter how thin the boy is, his physique cannot be hidden when he sits down, not to mention that he is more than a head taller than Yao Tongjia.

Xiao Gengwu's body couldn't be hidden, but he could shrink back in a wronged manner, wishing he could stick to Yao Tongjia, completely unaware that the person lying on the ground was his mother.

Just then, a coughing sound woke Xiao Yan up.

Aunt Yao immediately knelt down and said, "Yanzi, Yanzi, you're awake! What should we do with these branches?"

Xiao Yan felt full of energy after drinking the spiritual spring water, but she didn't know that she was experiencing a final burst of energy before death: "Yan Yan, the tree branch is stuck in my heart. Even if we get to the capital, there's no way to have the surgery. I don't think it's going to work!"

These words caused Yao's mother to break down in tears: "We agreed to support each other. You can't leave first. You have to take care of your son yourself. You have to get better!"

“I want to get better, but reality won’t allow it!” Xiao Yan turned to look at her son, but he didn’t even glance at her.

He was looking down, tugging at Yao Tongjia's clothes, and standing close to her!

This made her feel very bitter. It was her fault for closing him off. Fortunately, Yao Tongjia was there to help him open up a little bit.
