Chapter 11 Yao Yanxin and Yao's Mother 1

After Yao Tongjia saw two patients, no one else went into the medical room. People in this era have an extremely high tolerance for pain; they won't go into the medical room unless they are in unbearable pain.

At noon, Yao Tongjia packed her things, locked the door, and took Xiao Gengwu home. She took Xiao Gengwu for a drive.

The gossiping old ladies at the village entrance and exit quickly gathered around: "Girl, is this Dr. Xiao's son? He's so handsome! His height and looks are truly unique in the village."

"Luckily you hid him, otherwise he would have been snatched away long ago."

Seeing people gathering around, Xiao Gengwu quickly grabbed Yao Tongjia's clothes, almost shrinking behind her. This behavior made all the old ladies exchange glances. This seemed a bit abnormal!

Yao Tongjia stepped in to stop him, saying, "Our Xiao-ge is shy, let's go back for dinner!"

Back in the courtyard at the end of the village, Yao's mother was cooking, sweating profusely. To wipe away the sweat, she followed the example of the women in the village and hung a towel around her neck.

After years of use, the towel's original color is no longer visible, and the fibers are almost invisible, but Yao's mother still can't bear to throw it away.

If her former colleagues saw this, they would never believe that this was the same pampered Yao Yanxin from before.

Yao Yanxin used to say that she was unfortunate. She was abandoned by the river at birth. If her adoptive father hadn't happened to pass by, she would have been drowned by the rising river in just one night.

She was very lucky. Her adoptive father was a retired soldier, and he and her adoptive mother were very loving. The only flaw in their relationship was that her adoptive father was injured and could not have a child of his own.

The couple was overjoyed when Yao Yanxin was picked up by her adoptive father on the street that day. They had wanted to adopt a child for a long time, but there were many obstacles and they were afraid that they would not be able to raise the child properly.

Now that the child is right in front of them, they can use this as an excuse to avoid having their child stuffed into their hands by others.

Both husband and wife had jobs. The adoptive father was the head of the security department at the steel factory. While the average monthly salary was twenty or thirty yuan, his salary was one hundred and twenty yuan.

My adoptive mother was the deputy head of the finance department at the textile factory, earning a salary of seventy or eighty yuan. The couple's combined salary was two hundred yuan, which was a lucrative sum among their relatives and friends.

They didn't have any children of their own before. Relatives of both the adoptive father and the adoptive mother wanted to give their children to them so they could help raise them and then take care of them.

Their true intentions are obvious to everyone. The adoptive father and mother withstood the pressure and refused to have any of their children, originally planning to spend their lives together as husband and wife.

I never imagined I'd picked up a child on the street, a sweet little girl at that. How could I not cherish her to the core?

When Yao Yanxin was little, she was pampered by her adoptive parents. Her family was wealthy and had plenty of money. She was an only child, and she had everything that other children had, and even things that other children didn't have.

Although occasionally some awful relatives would come to harass them, their adoptive father would scare them away.

Even though relatives later deliberately said she was adopted, it didn't affect the relationship between her father and mother, because Yao Yanxin received complete love from her adoptive parents. Who cares if she is their biological child?

The couple did everything they could to support Yao Yanxin's education, and Yao Yanxin lived up to their expectations, consistently achieving top grades and gaining admission to university, becoming one of the last batch of university graduates.

College students were extremely rare back then. Yao Yanxin went to work at a textile factory as a designer right after graduation.

At that time, Yao Yanxin was the envy of many. Every day, she would sit in a bright office, draw a few blueprints, and earn the same salary as her mother every month.

Sometimes there are extra subsidies, and the family of three earns nearly 300 yuan a month, which is really eye-catching.

When life is too good, misfortune often comes knocking. One night, after the adoptive father was called away by people from the steel factory, he never returned home.

A worker violated regulations by smoking in the coke room, causing a major fire. The adoptive father, who was the head of the security department, rushed to put out the fire and sacrificed his life in an effort to save the steel plant's property.

Without the strong support of their adoptive father, the mother and daughter became easy prey. Both the adoptive father's parents and the adoptive mother's brothers wanted to cut them into pieces and sell them.

The adoptive mother immediately contacted her younger brother, whom she had raised, hoping he could come back to support her. Unfortunately, her brother, who had been introduced to the army by her husband, was perhaps on a mission and did not receive the letter, so he did not return as scheduled.

All the relatives came and made a scene, some fighting over the house, others wanting jobs. Not only did they want to interfere in Yao Yanxin's marriage, but they even wanted to sell her adoptive mother again by her own brothers.

Just then, her adoptive mother's younger brother, who had joined the army, coincidentally asked a comrade on leave to bring some things to his sister and niece.

When his comrades saw the chaotic scene, they immediately helped to drive everyone away.

The mother and daughter embraced and wept bitterly, completely helpless in the face of the situation. In the end, the adoptive mother made up her mind: "Yan Yan, I'm cutting ties with you. You don't need to be in this mess anymore."

How could Yao Yanxin, who had been loved and cherished for over a decade or two, leave her adoptive mother when she needed her most? In the end, it was the man who followed her who pleaded, "Why don't you marry me?"

These words rekindled the adoptive mother's hope. Yes, marrying her daughter off, especially to a soldier, would provide her with a layer of security.

This soldier was Ruan Shengpeng. When he saw Yao Yanxin, he was instantly smitten. He had thought that he was a rough and uncultured man and not good enough for her.

He didn't want people to be in a difficult situation and looking for a way out, so he could only take advantage of their misfortune.

And so, Yao Yanxin and Ruan Shengpeng, who had only met once, established a relationship. Ruan Shengpeng even urged his superiors to approve his marriage application, and soon he and Yao Yanxin registered their marriage.

Overjoyed, Ruan Shengpeng didn't even remember to tell his parents he was getting married. It wasn't until after he received the marriage certificate that his father learned from an old friend that his son had gotten married.

Mr. Ruan didn't feel anything. He was a rough and uncultured man himself, and he thought it was good that his son was getting married. But Mrs. Ruan didn't think so.

She has a strong desire for control. Her son got married to someone else without her consent, which is unforgivable and a challenge to her authority.

She was filled with anger, waiting for her youngest son and daughter-in-law to come home so she could vent her frustrations. If she could let them out, perhaps things would calm down.

However, Ruan Shengpeng was a soldier, and he was recalled to the army less than a week after his wedding, while Yao Yanxin's adoptive mother fell ill.
