Chapter 31 Dedicated Car Delivery

Time flies by during class and after class, and Friday is here soon. These past few days, Yao Tongjia has been looking at the English dictionary, but it has fewer contents than the modern version, and the translations have fewer modern meanings.

She felt relieved and asked her classmate about Xinhua Bookstore, but her classmate said, "Xinhua Bookstore? There isn't one in our county. If you want to buy books, you can go to the recycling station."

This information left Yao Tongjia speechless. How could she possibly pursue her translation career if there wasn't even a Xinhua Bookstore in the entire county?

Where is the Xinhua Bookstore?

"I heard there are some in the city!"

"How many hours does it take to get to the city from here?"

"I heard it takes three hours, I've never been there!"

When they got home for lunch, Xiao Gengwu noticed Yao Tongjia was silent and asked, "What's wrong?"

Yao Tongjia: "To get translation work, we need to go to the city. How about we go to the city tomorrow?"

At this moment, Granny Huang said, "To go to the city, you need to get a certificate, otherwise you will be arrested as vagrants and no one will save you. You are students now, so you need to ask the principal to give you the certificate! Also, going to the city takes six or seven hours round trip. There are two buses here, one at 8 am and one at 3 pm."

Yao Tongjia was even more speechless. It was really difficult to even go out. In order to buy a house, Yao Tongjia planned to go to the principal in the afternoon to get a certificate.

To obtain this proof, Yao Tongjia arrived at the principal's office half an hour early.

"What did you say? Go to the city? What are you going to the city for?"

"Xiao Gengwu and I want to take on some translation work to earn some money!"

Do you speak English or Russian?

"We both understand English!"

"You're so good at translating? Translate this Chinese text into English for me."

Yao Tongjia picked up what Principal Ke had written and quickly wrote it down in English.

When Principal Ke saw that Yao Tongjia wrote in English fluently, he nodded and said, "Not bad, not bad. I'm going to the city tomorrow too, and I'll go with you."

"My home is in the city, so you don't need to get a certificate. Meet me at the school gate at 1:30 pm tomorrow."

Then Yao Tongjia was kicked out, and she was still a little confused when she came out.

I came here to get a certificate, but I didn't get one. Instead, I'm going on a trip with the principal tomorrow.

If you can't figure it out, then stop thinking about it. After class, I told Yao Tongxu about tomorrow's schedule, and Yao Tongxu immediately jumped up and down: "I want to go too!"

We're going to the city with the principal, and we might even stay at someone's house. We can't bring so many people: "We're going with the principal, are you coming too?"

"Principal?" Yao Tongxu hesitated at this question. If it were his sister and Brother Xiao going, he would definitely go. But if he went with the principal, he might have to stay at the principal's house. So he decided against it.

Yao Tongxu said with a sullen face, "You never planned to let me go. You take Brother Xiao everywhere but me, humph!"

Yao Tongjia found it amazing to see Yao Tongxu so angry. He hadn't shown this vibrant side of himself when he was confined to his room before. It was so good to see him like this!

Yao Tongjia could only coax him, "I'll see if I can buy you some food later!"

Yao Tongxu's eyes lit up, then he shook his head: "We don't have tickets, how can we buy anything?"

Yao Tongjia thought about all the things in her space, and she was sure she could find something: "Whichever one doesn't require a ticket, I'll buy it for you, okay?"

"That would be great!" Yao Tongxu nodded quickly. "Then you must remember to buy it for me!"

Yao Tongjia's heart was full of joy. In this world, she now had a younger brother, a brother who depended on her completely: "I'll definitely buy it for you. These next two days, just help Grandma Huang with chores in the yard and don't go out!"

Yao Tongxu had clearly been instructed by his mother and Xiao Yan, and he didn't try to be brave: "If I go out, I'll definitely go with Granny Huang!"

......

The next day at noon, when Grandma Huang learned that they were going to the city, she specially boiled some eggs for them: "You don't have any tickets when you're out and about, so I'm boiling some eggs for you."

Yao Tongjia quickly thanked Grandma Huang. She hadn't taken those eggs; she needed to get more ingredients for her younger brother later, and she had almost forgotten about them.

After finishing their meal, Yao Tongxu returned to his room and pretended to take a row of eggs and some rice from a box under the bed, then handed them to Yao Tongxu.

"Here are the eggs and rice. The old lady just boiled four or five eggs for the two of us. Remember to give her a few back after we leave."

"Why don't you eat with Grandma for the next couple of days, and take the ingredients from here to cook!"

Yao Tongxu nodded repeatedly: "I understand. Be careful when you go out, and be sure to come back tomorrow."

"I'll definitely be back tomorrow. Remember to lock the doors and windows when you go to bed tonight."

When the two arrived at the school gate, Principal Ke was already waiting there. Upon seeing them, he quickly greeted them, "Come here and wait. There's a car that will take you directly to the city."

Could it be a private car going? Didn't they say there weren't any private cars available right now? As Yao Tongjia was thinking this, she saw a Jeep pull up: "Old Ke, are you going to see your parents?"

Principal Ke opened the back door for the two children, and after seeing them settled in, he opened the passenger door himself: "Go take a look. These two children also need to go to the city, so take them with you. Your car is just sitting empty anyway."

The driver had a square face and an upright demeanor; he looked like a soldier or a veteran.

As expected, Principal Ke introduced, "This is Minister Tan from our county's armed forces department. If anyone bullies you in the future, just go to him!"

Principal Ke's words drew another glance from Minister Tan: "Who is this? He doesn't look like your nephew!"

Principal Ke leaned back in his chair: "These are our new students. They want to take on translation jobs, so I have to send them to Old Pan!"

This made Minister Tan turn around and look at the two children: "They look so young, yet they can translate?"

"Young hero, you don't understand? I had them translate a few sentences for me, and they're quite good!"

"With your mediocre English skills, what can you possibly understand?" Minister Tan mocked.

"So I took them to show Lao Pan. You know, he himself wishes he could turn 24 hours into 48 hours to translate."

"But how can we possibly translate so much stuff? Every time I see him, he's practically bald. If we have the chance to help him out, we should personally deliver him over!"

Minister Tan chuckled, "That's true. If we don't send people over to help soon, the next time we see someone, they'll probably be bald!"

This conversation made the two friends in the front seat burst into laughter, and the two people in the back seat immediately felt relieved. Last night they were worried that Xinhua Bookstore might not have any translated books.

Now it's great! This car will take them directly to the people who need translation. This is wonderful!
