Xiao Gengwu saw the glistening tears on Yao Tongjia's cheeks on stage. He was anxious and came down from the stage. Without bothering to exchange pleasantries with others, he wanted to go to Yao Tongjia's side.
Unexpectedly, his path was blocked by several people. One of them, a man with many pimples on his face, looked at him with disdain: "You're Xiao Gengwu? You're really funny. You got the position of director by relying on your father-in-law and wife, but you only have one research achievement. What makes you think you deserve the top prize?"
Just then, Yao Tongjia followed He Jiayin forward and overheard her worried words. Sure enough, Xiao Gengwu was being discriminated against, and the person who spoke had won third prize.
Xiao Gengwu was not annoyed: "Based on the fact that my research results have helped the country, this is an award given to me by the country. If you have any questions, you should ask the leaders there and ask what I have done?"
Xiao Gengwu's frank words left the pimple-faced man speechless. If he dared to ask the leader, why would he be the one being confronted?
Xiao Gengwu is already 40 years old. Although he looks younger than him, he is indeed 40 years old and only achieved his first result at the age of 40.
This is a complete waste of national resources. I wonder how many times he has failed using national funds. How can this be allowed? If the funds were given to their research institute, perhaps they could have achieved more results.
Seeing that Xiao Gengwu didn't care at all, the pimple-faced girl immediately became dissatisfied: "You only produced one research result at the age of 40, and you still have the nerve to run a research institute? And your little research institute dares to have the same funding as us!"
Those two buildings at Huada University are a research institute, currently managed by Xiao Gengwu. Including Su Meng, there are only four researchers in the institute, but it is something many people envy.
This research institute has produced the most research results in the country, and more results naturally mean more funding. It's just strange that many of the institute's results are directly attributed to the state.
There was no mention of Xiao Gengwu at all, and He Jiale and Yao Tongxu were not mentioned before either; they only appeared in later projects.
Even if the research institute produces many research results, what does that have to do with Xiao Gengwu? Many people want to remove Xiao Gengwu from his post and take over as the director themselves.
With a little manipulation, the director could easily claim credit for the research findings. Nobody is as foolish as Xiao Gengwu, who reported everything truthfully!
Yao Tongjia pulled Xiao Gengwu aside, and He Jiayin also went over to help: "If you have any questions, you should ask the relevant departments. What are you doing here questioning the award winner?"
Most of the people here knew He Jiayin to some extent, and they immediately dispersed.
Xiao Gengwu quickly asked, "Were you crying just now? What happened?"
Yao Tongjia shook her head: "Let's talk about it when we get back!"
Xiao Gengwu looked around, realizing it wasn't the right place to talk, nodded, got into the car, and then asked again, "What's wrong with you?"
Yao Tongjia tugged at Xiao Gengwu's hand: "Have you been using your research findings to exchange for resources for me?"
Upon hearing this, Xiao Gengwu asked, "Did He Jiayin tell you? Actually, no..."
"Don't lie to me. Sister Yin said that Jiale and Axu are more famous than you now because you've contributed all your research results."
Xiao Gengwu could only nod: "It's nothing. I was just worried that if I became famous, it would be very inconvenient for me to come and go in the future, so I didn't want fame."
He only started thinking about it after hearing Yao Tongjia mention the resources she couldn't get. Anyway, he could do as much research as he wanted, so it really wasn't a big deal.
"How could there be nothing? Look at those rising stars, they dare to cause you trouble. If you had many researchers, would they dare to do that?"
Xiao Gengwu doesn't have many research achievements, and he will face a lot of difficulties if he wants to maintain his position as director. Thinking of this, Yao Tongjia couldn't help but ask, "Have people made things difficult for you before?"
Xiao Gengwu was about to shake his head when Yao Tongjia glanced at him and he nodded: "It is a bit difficult, but it's nothing! Now that your business is stable, you will be free to develop it as you wish, and all your future research results will be kept!"
"Let them wait and see how fast I can produce results. Soon they won't dare to say anything against me!"
Tears welled up in Yao Tongjia's eyes: "You, you're too good to me, why are you so good to me?"
Xiao Gengwu leaned over from the driver's seat to wipe away Yao Tongjia's tears: "You came to my side all alone and rescued me from the fog. It can be said that without you, I wouldn't be the normal person I am today."
"Everything I've achieved is partly yours, so what's wrong with me giving you some things in return? But from now on, they're all mine, so you can't be jealous!"
"What are you jealous of? Did you give it to someone else?"
"How could I dare? I'm already content with you by my side. You're the only one for me in this life, and I only want you!" Xiao Gengwu looked intently at Yao Tongjia.
Yao Tongjia looked back at Xiao Gengwu and thought of how she had come here in despair, and how he had stayed by her side, gradually melting away her ice.
Now I have loving parents, two children who are my own flesh and blood, and many close friends in this era.
She hadn't thought about her mother in the afterlife for a very long time; she was completely integrated into this era and had a career she was proud of.
More importantly, she had him by her side. Yao Tongjia couldn't help but lean over and hug Xiao Gengwu: "Thank you, I love you!"
Xiao Gengwu patted Yao Tongjia's head: "Thank you too, I love you too!"
The End
I started writing this book in February and it took me exactly seven months to write it until early September. It is my first book with a word count of one million. Although the data has not been very good, I still feel a sense of accomplishment.
This is the first time I've kept my word. At the beginning of the year, I said I would write a book that would sell a million copies, and I really gritted my teeth and persevered!
I generally don't write side stories, so we'll see you in the next book if fate allows. Thank you so much for always reading my books quietly. I will write even better books in the future, I promise! I mean what I say!
