Chapter 9 Xiao Gengwu's Talent

The next morning, Yao Tongjia was about to go to work at the medical room after breakfast when Xiao Gengwu grabbed her clothes tightly. Xiao Gengwu was bending over and lowering his head in order to hold onto Yao Tongjia's clothes.

Yao Tongjia looked at him, a tall man of 1.8 meters, making that aggrieved look, and for some reason, she remembered that she had also tugged at her scumbag father's clothes like that when she was a child.

It was just a pity that her scumbag father had cruelly rejected her. She was in a bad mood for several days afterward. Now that someone else was tugging at her sleeve, she felt a little reluctant to refuse.

"I'm going to work in the medical ward. Are you really coming with me?"

Xiao Gengwu nodded rapidly, almost nodding his head off.

“I need to help with medical treatment and getting medicine, as well as organizing the medicine cabinet. You’ll have to sit quietly and not tug at my clothes like this. If you can do that, I’ll take you there.”

Xiao Gengwu nodded in agreement without hesitation, ran back to his room, and grabbed a few tattered books. These books were what Xiao Yan had found for her son at the recycling station.

When the three children arrived, Xiao Gengwu was five years old, and the Yao siblings were both three years old; the two of them were twins.

When they left Beijing to come to this village, anticipating its backwardness, they sent over primary, middle, and high school textbooks.

They sacrificed a lot for these textbooks, but Xiao Yan and Yao Tongjia both felt it was worth it. Both of them were college graduates, so how could they let their children become illiterate?

In Beijing, one was a doctor and the other worked in an office drawing blueprints. But after coming to this backward village, Yao Yanxin, in particular, had no opportunity to use her talents.

Xiao Yan quickly earned the title of village doctor thanks to her medical skills, but because she was not recognized by the commune, she did not receive a salary and could only rely on the remuneration given by the patients.

However, the more backward the village, the more it discriminates against women. They would rather endure the pain than let Xiao Yan receive medical treatment.

Without anyone to provide her with medical care, she had no income. These two highly educated women could only work in the fields to earn work points, and they were so exhausted every day that it was difficult for them to even lift their arms, let alone afford to provide their child with early education.

After Xiao Yan gained recognition from the commune through her medical skills and started earning a few yuan a month, they finally settled down and discovered that Xiao Gengwu had already read through all the elementary and junior high school textbooks.

Xiao Yan initially thought her son was just flipping through the pages casually, but when she accidentally saw him doing high school math problems and actually getting them right, tears streamed down her face.

Xiao Gengwu completed all the knowledge of primary and junior high school in one year through self-study, which shows that his intelligence is not a problem, and it can even be said that he has extremely high talent.

Xiao Gengwu was not the fool his mother-in-law claimed. How could Xiao Yan not shed tears upon realizing this?

Knowing her son was talented, Xiao Yan would always go to the recycling station to collect all the books that weren't against the rules, regardless of their category, whenever she went out to buy medicine.

Each time, they would bring back several sacks of goods, which meant they had to tighten their belts, but even Yao Yanxin had no objections.

They all agreed that children's education is paramount, and they absolutely could not allow their children to be buried in this small village.

Xiao Gengwu was not picky; he would read any book he saw, regardless of what kind it was. Over the past ten years, his room had been filled with all kinds of books, to the point that there was almost no room to put his feet down.

Before Yao Tongjia transmigrated into his world, he ignored everyone, focusing solely on eating and reading. He wouldn't even respond when the Yao siblings spoke to him.

Whether it was the aura or not, from the very first day Yao Tongjia appeared at the dinner table after transmigrating, he became obsessed with her, and every time he saw her, his eyes would light up like a detector.

This change made Xiao Yan extremely happy. After more than ten years, there was finally an outlet for her son to crawl out. If he hadn't crawled out, she was afraid that he would have to live like this for the rest of his life.

When Yao Tongjia led Xiao Gengwu out, Xiao Yan was drinking chicken soup. Seeing the two young people walking out side by side, Xiao Yan couldn't help but exclaim, "Look how well-matched they are!"

“They look like a perfect match on the surface!” Yao Yanxin still felt sorry for her daughter, and these words immediately killed the conversation.

Xiao Yan finished her chicken soup and put down the bowl: "Yan Yan, how much longer do you think we'll have to stay here?"

Xiao Yan and Xiao Gengwu left the capital partly because Xiao Yan was framed and ended up in a room with a man. Although both of them were fully clothed, they couldn't explain themselves clearly.

Another reason was that Xiao Yan received a letter from her parents saying that they were going to be sent to the countryside because of some problems, and told her to come to this village to avoid trouble.

Although the misfortune did not extend to the married woman, she had already divorced that scumbag at that time. Unless she severed ties with her parents, she would also be implicated.

She didn't want to see those people's true colors in Beijing, so she decided to leave the city. Unexpectedly, she ran into Yao Yanxin, who was in a similar predicament. The two of them decided to travel together to this village.

"Yan Yan, it's been so many years, and you still haven't said why you brought your sick twins here. And where's your brother Peng? Why hasn't he come to see you all these years?"

Hearing this, Yao Yanxin sat down, feeling somewhat helpless: "Before I left Beijing, I gave my address to a colleague and asked her to keep an eye on Peng Ge's news. If he comes back, I asked her to give the address to Peng Ge."

"More than ten years have passed, and he still hasn't come. He's either dead or he's remarried. It seems we've all encountered scumbags!"

"I don't think Ruan Shengpeng is that kind of person!"

“I also think he’s not that kind of person, but we’ve been here for twelve years. If he wanted to find us, he would have done so long ago.”

"He's a former reconnaissance soldier. Even if my colleague hadn't given him the address, he should have been able to find it on his own. How can he sleep well after losing his wife and two children?"

Ruan Shengpeng couldn't sleep well in a foreign land. He couldn't understand how his wife had turned into a completely different person.

Although she looked exactly like his wife, he knew she wasn't. Even their twins only had one daughter left.

His kind mother told him that her son had died and his wife had suffered a shock that caused her personality to change drastically, but he didn't believe a word of it; that person was not his wife at all.

He would never mistake his wife; she was the wife he had loved for a lifetime at first sight. How could he mistake her?

He knew something was fishy and he should investigate, but before he could ask anyone to help him, he was urgently summoned back to do a mission.

He's been doing this job for over ten years, and he doesn't know what's wrong with his wife. He plans to go back this time and apply for leave. He can't wait any longer; if he waits any longer, he'll go crazy!
