Chapter 23 You are not her

When the three of them arrived at the place where they were gathering herbs, Xiao Gengwu saw what Yao Tongjia was gathering and followed suit without Yao Tongjia having to tell him what to do.

Yao Tongxu was different. He would come over with a blade of grass one minute and a vine the next, asking, "Sister, is this what you wanted?"

Yao Tongjia initially answered him carefully, but later she even considered getting rid of this younger brother.

In the end, Xiao Gengwu didn't want Yao Tongxu to take up too much of Yao Tongjia's time, so he dragged him to the place where they were cutting pig feed.

Pointing to the patch of pig feed: "Just cut this patch, you absolutely can't go wrong!"

Yao Tongxu also nodded, feeling that he was letting everyone down: "I understand, remember to come find me here later!"

This made several elderly women nearby laugh. One of them, who had lost two front teeth, said, "Are you still breastfeeding? You still need your older sister to pick you up. You can come down with us in a bit!"

Another old woman chimed in: "They're such a sweet couple, what are you doing in the middle?"

The naive Yao Tongxu was puzzled: "What sweet and loving? My sister and I didn't even argue!"

This remark made everyone at the wedding laugh, and one person almost cut their hand from laughing so hard. One of the younger women, Aunt Ma, said, "You shameless old folks, don't set a bad example for the children!"

"He's just a kid. He and his sister are twins. His sister is married, so he can get married too!"

Yao Tongxu seemed to understand something and retorted: "My sister and my brother Xiao are married, but my mom says they are still young, and they sleep in their own rooms at night."

These words silenced everyone. Aunt Ma said enviously, "They are cultured people who know how to care for their children. We all know that having a child at a young age is very dangerous."

"But in order to save food, our parents insisted that we marry at the age of fifteen or sixteen so that they could earn money to support the male offspring and ensure that the children could go to school in the future."

"The harvest from the fields isn't even enough to fill our stomachs, let alone give us half a meal. Where would we find the spare money for education? We'd like to send them to school, but we can't afford it!"

The following words were all expressions of admiration, which made Yao Tongxu's heart swell. He watched this scene with a mixture of understanding and confusion, something brewing within him.

Yao Tongjia and Xiao Gengwu walked towards the area with more medicinal herbs. This place was a bit far from the crowds, and most people rarely went this way, which is why these medicinal herbs could survive.

Xiao Gengwu continued to watch Yao Tongjia gather herbs, and then, relying on his superb memory, he repeated Yao Tongjia's actions.

Just as they were about to fill both baskets, Yao Tongjia was suddenly startled.

I think I heard the sound of a wild boar. You know, wild boars are incredibly strong fighters; sometimes they can even take down a tiger.

Yao Tongjia grabbed Xiao Gengwu and tried to run, but it was too late. The wild boar had already caught up. Seeing that they couldn't escape, Yao Tongjia simply gave up.

She took an axe from her spatial storage and handed it to Xiao Gengwu. She also took an axe for herself, which she had just found last time and deliberately placed in a conspicuous spot.

Xiao Gengwu was completely unfazed by Yao Tongjia's sudden appearance of something. He pulled Yao Tongjia behind a large tree, where the wild boar crashed into them.

The big tree swayed and scattered many leaves. Xiao Gengwu continued to pull Yao Tongjia to hide behind another dense tree. The wild boar seemed to be enraged.

They ran and kept crashing into big trees. Xiao Gengwu pulled Yao Tongjia to another big tree to hide under. The wild boar kept crashing into them. After a while, he was probably a little dizzy and felt disoriented.

Taking advantage of the wild boar's dizziness, Xiao Gengwu ran over and slashed at its body. This slash provoked the wild boar, which suddenly turned around and tried to charge at Xiao Gengwu.

Startled, Yao Tongjia slashed again at the spot where Xiao Gengwu had just attacked. The wild boar's head was about to crash into Xiao Gengwu when Yao Tongjia struck it.

As a result, the body split in two. The boar's head had just rushed towards Xiao Gengwu's body with all its might, but when the body fell to the ground, the head was still heading towards Xiao Gengwu, knocking him to the ground.

Yao Tongjia's heart pounded, and she cried out in alarm, "Xiao Gengwu, are you alright?"

Fortunately, Xiao Gengwu was still able to reply, "It's nothing, I just got pressed down by a pig's head!"

Upon hearing the answer, Yao Tongjia ran over and threw the pig's head off Xiao Gengwu's body. Not daring to help Xiao Gengwu up, she touched his chest and asked, "Does it hurt?"

But then he saw that Xiao Gengwu's face looked like Guan Yu's, was it because his blood was rushing upwards?

Before Yao Tongjia could figure anything out, Xiao Gengwu stood up: "I'm fine. Let's hurry up and leave, lest we attract other wild animals."

The wild boar was cut in half, and the smell of blood was strong. Yao Tongjia felt a little sorry for the wild boar. Xiao Gengwu handed the axe to Yao Tongjia: "Put it all away!"

These words made Yao Tongjia give Xiao Gengwu a deep look. Xiao Gengwu urged, "Hurry up, we still need to bury the blood with mud!"

In front of Xiao Gengwu, Yao Tongjia put away the axe and the wild boar, and then took a shovel.

Xiao Gengwu said nothing, took the shovel, dug out the soil, and buried the blood underneath.

After they finished, the two of them continued walking one after the other, carrying their baskets on their backs, as if nothing had happened.

Yao Tongjia couldn't help but ask, "Aren't you curious?"

Xiao Gengwu shook his head: "It's just a Qiankun bag, what's there to be curious about? It's just a thing for storing things."

These words made Yao Tongjia laugh: "Yeah, it's just a thing for putting things in!"

"However, you should still be careful and not let anyone else find out, not even your mother, my mother, or Yao Tongxu!"

These words surprised Yao Tongjia: "Why?"

"They'll be curious, and then they'll be skeptical."

"What do you suspect?"

"I suspect you're not her!"

These words made Yao Tongjia's heart clench sharply, and she felt a little flustered: "What, what did you say?"

Xiao Gengwu looked around: "She disappeared after she rolled down the mountain that time, so you came here, right?"

Yao Tongjia stammered, "What...what did you say?"

"Don't be afraid, only I know this. The two of you behave very similarly, or rather, she is so taciturn that others have forgotten what she looks like when she speaks."

"So even Aunt Yao never doubted you."

“My mom also thought that your personality had changed because you fell once, but I could see the change in you the first time I ate with you.”

What Xiao Gengwu didn't say was that when he first saw Yao Tongjia, his sealed mind seemed to clear away like clouds.

His mind became clearer and clearer, no longer confused, and he no longer needed to struggle; he easily broke free from his restraints.

His heart seemed to come alive, no longer as still as water, just like a fish encountering water, just like a person needing oxygen.

It felt like his ribs had come back! He wanted to look at her every moment, and he wanted to be with her forever!
