118 Fifth Master Can't Let Go of His Ex-Wife
Xie Yaoyao didn't know how she got back to her room. She felt completely exhausted and sat down on the floor, pressed against the door.
Tears streamed down her face.
She raised her hand to wipe it, but the more she wiped, the more there was.
She didn't know that when she let go back then, she thought she was helping him to a bright future, but she didn't know that she almost sent him to his death.
What did he go through in the past six months at Xiaojian Mountain to become such a cold and indifferent person?
It was her fault.
Xie Yaoyao hugged her knees tightly with both hands, letting her tears flow freely.
She thought she was doing it for his own good, but in the end, she pushed him into an abyss.
And what Uncle Jian said.
"Fifth Master always kept his ex-wife in his heart and sent many people to look for her, but they couldn't find her."
"There are reports that she has remarried and is living a happy life, while there are also reports that she has found true love and gone to the mainland with him to develop her career."
"There are many different opinions, but since we haven't seen the person, Fifth Master is still unwilling to give up easily."
Xie Yaoyao thought the arson at the boathouse was related to Huo Yanxi, but now she realizes she had thought too badly of him.
How could Huo Yanxi possibly hurt her?
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." Xie Yaoyao kept murmuring these three words.
Finally, she cried until her voice was hoarse and her eyes were swollen, before remembering that there was a little girl upstairs waiting for her to comfort her.
She got up from the floor, went to the bathroom to wash her face, and when she looked at her swollen eyes, she cursed herself, saying she deserved it.
Xie Yaoyao went to the kitchen and cooked a bowl of sweet egg soup, then took it upstairs.
She walked to the door of the master bedroom, reached out and knocked, but there was no response from inside.
She pressed her ear against the door, but the door was so heavy that she couldn't hear a sound.
A clear, deep voice suddenly rang out from behind him, "What are you doing?"
Xie Yaoyao was so startled that she almost knocked over the tray in her hands, but she quickly steadied herself.
Turning around, she saw Huo Yanxi standing behind her, his expression revealing no emotion.
She smiled awkwardly, "I made a bowl of sweet egg soup, would you like to try some?"
As she spoke, she looked him up and down, but found nothing unusual.
Huo Yanxi walked over to her, pushed the door open, and said, "Come in."
Xie Yaoyao stood awkwardly at the door.
Uncle Jian said he was a germaphobe and usually wouldn't let anyone into his bedroom, but now he invited her in.
Seeing her hesitation, Huo Yanxi's brows furrowed with impatience. "If you don't want to come in, then leave."
After saying that, he was about to close the door.
Xie Yaoyao quickly squeezed in with the tray, saying casually, "I haven't been to your room before, so I'm just taking a look around."
Huo Yanxi's room was very large. The living room was outside, and there was a door next door that should have connected to the study.
The living room features a set of Italian handcrafted custom sofas, next to which sits a stylish low table.
Xie Yaoyao looked around and placed the tray on the low table. "Mr. Huo, please eat it while it's hot."
Huo Yanxi walked over and sat down on the sofa.
In the small fishing village, sweet egg soup was a dish that Grandma Chi used to entertain guests.
He and Manman have been eating this dish since they were little, and he remembers exactly what it tastes like.
Xie Yaoyao sat cross-legged on the carpet and pushed the bowl toward him. "Eat up, something sweet will make you feel better."
Huo Yanxi picked up the bowl, looked down at the little bit of foam floating on the sugar water, and felt as empty as that foam in his heart.
Why are you trying to comfort me?
Xie Yaoyao rested her elbows on the low table, propping her chin up. "You're not happy, are you?"
A hint of a smile seemed to appear in Huo Yanxi's eyes. "You comfort me when I'm unhappy, but would you comfort Attorney Liang when he's unhappy?"
Xie Yaoyao didn't know why he suddenly brought up Liang Zhen. She said, "Although we are legally married, we are not really close."
"Hmm, that's a rather novel way of putting it."
Xie Yaoyao discovered that Huo Yanxi cared more about Liang Zhen than about what Madam Huo had said.
She said, "After we got our marriage certificate, we didn't live together. Soon after, he went abroad and hasn't come back in the past few years. We mostly keep in touch by phone, and we only talk to each other a few times a year."
Xie Yaoyao thought that although she couldn't be completely honest with him right now, she wouldn't hide anything she could tell him.
For example, she didn't want Liang Zhen to misunderstand her relationship with him.
Huo Yanxi's perspective was different from hers. He raised an eyebrow and asked, "You two don't live together, and you seem quite disappointed?"
Xie Yaoyao: "...Really?"
Huo Yanxi: "No?"
Xie Yaoyao tugged at her hair. "No, it was just a temporary measure. I had no romantic feelings for him."
Huo Yanxi already knew from Liang Zhen that Xie Yaoyao had not lost her memory.
In other words, she remembered him from the moment they reunited at the teacher appreciation banquet.
But she is really good at keeping her composure.
It's been almost two months, and she hasn't shown any sign of anything.
If he hadn't asked Liang Zhen today, he wouldn't have known that she had been pretending to be stupid all along.
Huo Yanxi narrowed his eyes slightly. "Why did you agree to a fake marriage with him in the first place?"
She didn't even want her own identity anymore.
Is it because they didn't actually divorce back then that she changed her name?
Xie Yaoyao said, "I was followed for a long time. I don't know who it was. I had no choice but to find someone to fake a marriage with."
Then why did you change your name?
Is it because you don't want me to find you?
Huo Yanxi swallowed back the words that were on the tip of his tongue. She didn't want to acknowledge him even if she hadn't lost her memory. His questioning now would only alert her and make her want to run away again.
He swallowed back the resentment in his heart by drinking sugar water.
"Teacher Xie, are all the things you're telling me true?"
Xie Yaoyao heard his voice was slightly hoarse, as if he was trying hard to hold back a sob.
She was also feeling very bad.
She said, "Every word is true, there is absolutely no deception."
Huo Yanxi nodded slightly. "Okay, I believe you."
Upon hearing those two words, Xie Yaoyao's heart stirred slightly, and a smile bloomed on her face. "President Huo, don't just talk to me, hurry up and eat the eggs."
Huo Yanxi looked into her eyes.
He had just noticed that her eyes were red and swollen, as if she had been crying. He leaned forward slightly and reached out his hand.
Before it even landed below her eyelids, Xie Yaoyao realized something and leaned back.
She looked at Huo Yanxi with a puzzled expression, "Mr. Huo..."
Huo Yanxi realized his lapse in composure, withdrew his hand, and gently clenched it into a fist.
"Have you been crying?"
Xie Yaoyao remembered her puffy eyes and smiled awkwardly, "No, something just got into my eye."
She didn't want him to know that she was heartbroken and crying because of him.
Huo Yanxi stared at her intently for a moment, then asked, "Are you going to exercise again tonight?"
Xie Yaoyao dared not let him be idle, for fear that he would be saddened by the thought of Madam Huo again.
"Come on, Mr. Huo is a top-notch personal trainer that I can't hire even if I pay money. Why not take advantage of him?"
Although their bodies inevitably touched, she acted as if nothing had happened as long as she didn't mind.
