057 You Can't Control My Life
Huo Yanxi's expression suddenly turned cold, a hint of mockery hidden in his eyes. "Have you figured out how to live your life? You dare to tell me what to do?"
"Huo Yanxi, how dare you!"
Mrs. Huo's voice was sharp, concealing a deep hatred and resentment, "I am your mother!"
"Are you worthy?" Huo Yanxi stood under the fireworks, with clusters of fireworks rising and exploding behind him, dazzlingly beautiful.
But he was cold and aggressive.
He was haunted by the shadow of being abandoned in his childhood, and his whole being was dark and damp. He wanted to destroy all the beauty in the world and find an outlet for his unfortunate life.
Madam Huo was stunned for a few seconds, then her voice became even sharper, "Huo Yanxi, don't forget, it was I who carried you for ten months and gave birth to you."
Whether I'm worthy or not, I gave you my life. If I want you to go east, don't even think about going west.
"Chi Wanwan is a perfect match for you. She is the daughter-in-law I carefully chose. I don't care what you think, marrying her is a done deal."
Madam Huo pressed him relentlessly, giving Huo Yanxi no right to refuse.
Huo Yanxi's expression was gloomy. He slightly curled his lips and smiled faintly, "You can't control my life."
After saying that, he hung up the call.
Fireworks lit up the sky overhead, and Xie Ziyu's joyful cheers could be heard from not far away.
Xie Yaoyao stood there, sometimes watching the fireworks, sometimes looking at her son's smiling face.
The world is so grand and splendid, but his world is a mess.
He felt around in his pocket, took out his cigarette case, put a cigarette in his mouth, but couldn't find his lighter.
He was feeling frustrated, and just as he was about to exhale the cigarette from his mouth, there was a soft "snap" sound next to him.
It's the sound of pulleys rubbing against the track.
A ball of eerie blue flame appeared before my eyes, illuminating a fair and round face.
Xie Yaoyao cupped one hand around the flame, looked up at him, and said, "What are you standing there for? Didn't you say you didn't have a lighter?"
Huo Yanxi's gaze lingered on her face for a moment before he lowered his head and held the cigarette close to the flame.
The tobacco burned, making a hissing sound.
He tilted his head and slowly exhaled a puff of smoke, his handsome features hidden in the smoke, making it impossible to see his expression clearly.
But Xie Yaoyao sensed that he was preoccupied and not very happy.
She put the lighter away and fiddled with it between her fingers. It was a very cheap lighter, like a free gift with a purchase.
"You carry a lighter with you?"
Xie Yaoyao smiled and said, "We don't accept students' cigarettes. Kids these days are too curious. They often hide in the toilet to learn how to smoke. We catch them every time."
Huo Yanxi said indifferently, "Your teaching career has been quite remarkable."
"Of course!" Xie Yaoyao exclaimed. "Kids these days are so different from when we were in school. They come up with all sorts of tricks every day. I've encountered at least eight hundred, if not a thousand, problem students."
Huo Yanxi: "Why did you choose to teach?"
"Perhaps I want to be a guiding light in other people's lives, to show them the way when they are lost," Xie Yaoyao said in a sacred and noble tone.
In my heart, she wasn't actually that great.
Huo Yanxi chuckled enigmatically, “You’re a lot like someone I know. She chose to attend a teachers’ college because she wanted to be a guiding light in other people’s lives.”
Xie Yaoyao looked slightly uncomfortable. She brushed her hair from her forehead and asked, "Are you still in contact now?"
"We've lost contact."
Xie Yaoyao stopped asking, feeling that if she continued to ask, she would be pretending not to know.
That's a bit inhumane.
She tilted her head.
Huo Yanxi leaned against the railing, the night wind ruffling the black hair that fell across his forehead, a slender cigarette held between two fingers of his right hand.
The stars flickered in the night, illuminating the sharp lines of his jaw and his nonchalant expression.
His eyes were cold and desolate, and a shadow fell between his brows.
"Mr. Huo, are you unhappy?"
He seemed quite happy while playing in the afternoon, but I wonder who called him earlier and why he felt so down.
Huo Yanxi stopped smoking and let the cigarette burn between his fingers.
He looked at her, then suddenly took a step closer to her, lowered his head, and almost whispered.
"If I'm unhappy, do you have a way to make me happy?"
A cool, aloof fragrance wafted over, and Xie Yaoyao turned her head slightly, her heart inexplicably beating a little faster.
What is he doing?
Xie Yaoyao took a step back and looked around, spotting a snack stall that hadn't closed yet on the food street.
Her eyes lit up.
He grabbed Huo Yanxi's wrist and pulled him over there, saying, "Mr. Huo, I'll treat you to grilled squid."
She was strong, and Huo Yanxi was dragged along by her, dropping the cigarette in his hand to the ground.
He frowned, staring at the hand that was gripping his wrist.
Although the sleeve wasn't directly touching his skin, he could feel his wrist getting slightly hot.
He was pulled along by Xie Yaoyao and started running. A breeze brushed against his face, and he could smell the faint scent of her shower gel.
It's probably the same shower gel that Xie Ziyu uses; it has a sweet, milky scent.
Like the White Rabbit milk candy I ate when I was a child.
Xie Yaoyao pulled him to the food stall and said something to the owner.
The owner came out of the small house, and Xie Yaoyao squeezed in, put on a mask, and began to process the ingredients.
Besides grilled squid, the food stall also sells cold noodles and grilled potatoes.
The ingredients are all fresh; she just puts them on the grill.
The fireworks show has ended.
The staff brought Xie Ziyu and Huo Zidu, the two children, to the snack stall.
Huo Yanxi waved his hand, indicating that they didn't need to stay any longer.
Xie Ziyu jumped around in front of the food stall, saying, "Mommy, put less chili and more barbecue powder."
Xie Yaoyao skillfully flipped the sizzling squid on the hot plate with a spatula.
"Okay, you little glutton, go sit over there and wait, or the oil will splatter all over you."
Xie Ziyu stood on tiptoe, looking at the squid on the hot plate. "Can we eat it now? I want to try it."
Huo Zidu sat next to Huo Yanxi, looking at Xie Ziyu with disdain.
"Can't you just stay still for a while? You're jumping around like a monkey."
Xie Ziyu made a face at him, "Hehehe..."
Huo Zidu: "..."
What should I do if my hands are itching and I want to hit someone?
Xie Yaoyao smelled the aroma of squid, picked up the grinder, sprinkled on some barbecue powder, and the aroma became even stronger.
She picked up a piece of squid with her chopsticks and brought it to Xie Ziyu's mouth. It was a little hot, and Xie Ziyu grimaced from the heat but refused to spit it out.
She inhaled and chewed, salivating from the delicious aroma. "So delicious, Mommy, I want more!"
Xie Yaoyao took a disposable lunchbox, put the grilled squid into the lunchbox, and handed it to him.
"Yubao, take it over and eat with them."
Xie Ziyu carried the lunchbox and walked steadily to the small table, placing the lunchbox on it.
Huo Zidu was used to eating delicacies, but he was captivated by the aroma of this small bowl of grilled squid.
He couldn't wait to pick up his chopsticks, take a bite, and his eyes lit up.
"Uncle, this squid smells delicious, you should try some."
Huo Yanxi smelled the familiar scent, narrowed his eyes, and looked at Xie Yaoyao, who was busy under the light in the small house.
His eyes were deep and intense.
