Chapter 19 Casual Chat

After entering Qingqiu, the scenery didn't change much; it was still mountains, forests, and grasslands, with birds chirping and insects buzzing. Ajiang relaxed a bit.

"Linglong, I read in a book that there's a kind of monster called Jiuying, which has nine heads and nine tails. It seems more suitable for you than the nine-tailed fox. Do you want to consider it?"

"Nine heads! How terrifying that must be!" Ji Yi exclaimed.

“That must be really ugly, I don’t want it.” Linglong insisted on her own aesthetic sense.

"Does it have to be good-looking?"

A-Jiang pondered, could this be the real reason why Linglong was so obsessed with the silver fox?

"Linglong, how do we find the Silver Fox? This place looks huge," Ji Yi asked, looking around.

"Let's go down the mountain and observe the surroundings before we decide what to do. Qingqiu has been closed off for many years, and there should be many precious materials inside that are not found outside. Even if we can't find the silver fox, it would be good to collect some herbs."

A-Jiang agreed with this, and said to Ji Yi, "Catching foxes is Tianpeng's specialty. Release it and let it search around."

Ji Yi thought it made sense, so he released the golden eagle from the spirit beast bag, exchanged a few words with it, and then released it into the sky.

Looking at the golden eagle soaring in the sky, Linglong exclaimed, "It's truly magnificent!"

"Of course!" Ji Yi said with pride.

They descended the mountain path, but their harvest was meager, and Tianpeng found nothing. As noon approached, the three of them grew hungry and came to a small river to start a fire and cook.

Ajahn released the Magikarp, instructing it not to stray far. Ji Yi cleared a space, took out the food he had brought and arranged it, finally sighing, "I still didn't bring enough."

"What rank of spirit beast is Tianpeng?" Linglong asked while eating snacks.

Ji Yi hesitated for a moment: "According to the classification of spirit beast ranks, Tianpeng can only be considered a first-order demon beast, but its strength should be at the second order."

“I think the current classification of spirit beast ranks is still quite vague, and many definitions are contradictory. Spirit beasts are very important to cultivators, and we should study them in detail,” A-Jiang said.

Linglong and Ji Yi agreed.

"Among the cultivation sects, there should be sects that specialize in taming beasts, right?" A-Jiang asked.

"Maybe so, like in the Valley of a Hundred Beasts, where I joined the Myriad Heroes Sect, which has a lot of sword cultivators."

After saying that, he exclaimed, "I've only been to the sect once. It's very beautiful there, the spiritual energy is abundant, and the cultivation speed is extremely fast..."

“Spiritual energy concentration…” A-Jiang suddenly realized something.

“That’s right, with more spiritual energy, cultivation speed will naturally be faster,” Linglong said matter-of-factly.

A-Jiang's expression turned a little strange, and he asked, "So what do you think of the spiritual energy here?"

"The spiritual energy here is certainly..."

Linglong stopped halfway through her sentence. When they first arrived, the spiritual energy was indeed very thin, similar to that of the mortal realm. However, as they went deeper, they could feel a significant increase in the concentration of spiritual energy.

The three of them looked around; the scenery was beautiful, but they all had bad thoughts in their hearts.

"When the immortals sealed this place, they certainly wouldn't have left behind enough spiritual energy for the fox clan to cultivate. Otherwise, many fox demons would have appeared in the world long ago."

“But we recently saw two fox demons, and both of them can transform into human form,” Ji Yi reminded them.

"Even if this place was once under a restriction, with the passage of time, it may have already regained its spiritual energy."

Ah Jiang made the worst-case scenario prediction: "Don't think about these things anymore. Hurry up and finish eating and go back. We can't go any further inside."

The following words were spoken to Linglong.

Linglong nodded obediently and sincerely apologized: "Ajiang, Ji Yi, I was wrong this time. If anything happens, you two run first and I'll cover your retreat!"

Seeing her serious expression, A-Jiang laughed. Who would let a nine-year-old child be left behind?

"Maybe we're just overthinking it. After all, neither Tianpeng nor Magikarp noticed anything unusual. We just need to be careful."

After finishing their meal, the three packed up their things and headed back. They had been searching around before they arrived, but hadn't gone far from the mountaintop. If they sped up in the afternoon, they should be able to get out before sunset.

Ajahn said, "If we had a map, or the location where the silver foxes are found, we would be more confident. Let's not be greedy this time; we can always prepare and come back next time."

“Yes, Ah Jiang is right. We can go out and ask around in the villages below, or wait at the entrance. If someone catches a silver fox, we can just buy it,” Ji Yi suggested.

“I like this idea,” Ajahn agreed happily.

Linglong agreed to this solution.
