Chapter 27 A Person Like a Lotus

The dress was exquisitely designed, made of pale pink chiffon, making it look like something a fairy would wear. However, it was clearly three sizes too big for Bai Chongjiang. The sleeves were so loose that it seemed she could wave her flowing sleeves and sing a melodious opera tune, and the skirt trailed long like a magnificent tail.

Bai Chongjiang's chest was flat, so the space left by her clothes couldn't be filled, making the overall look somewhat loose. Despite this, she tried her best to remain calm, letting the two little girls busy themselves around her.

Both maids frowned as they looked at them.

The clothes chosen by the sewing room were based on the figure of a thirteen-year-old girl. The maids brought them back without even looking at them, and only after putting them on did they realize that they were really unsuitable.

The two of them exchanged a single glance, both filled with disdain and disgust.

The girl in front of them was thin and small, and did not look like a young lady at all. She was already thirteen years old, but she was as tall as a seven or eight-year-old child. If it weren't for this, the two of them wouldn't be in such a predicament.

"What should we do?" the tall maid asked.

“It’s too late to go back and change,” the other replied.

The two arrived late; the banquet was about to begin.

Bai Chongjiang suggested, "How about I just wear my own clothes?"

The two maids glanced at the academy disciple's robes placed beside them. If the young lady were to wear that to the family banquet, they would both be in for a beating.

Finally, the shortest maid stamped her foot, ran back to her room, and took out a dress. The material and style were very ordinary, but it looked quite new, and she probably rarely wore it.

After quickly tidying up, the three of them arrived at Yingfeng Hall.

This Yingfeng Hall is exquisite and magnificent, representing the face of the Bai family. It is usually only open to receive distinguished guests, so today's event is quite grand.

After taking her seat, Bai Chongjiang realized that Bai Furong, who had been cultivating outside, had also returned today.

The hall was decorated somewhat like an emperor's grand banquet for his officials. The old lady sat at the main table, while the others were divided into two groups on either side, each with a square table in front of them. Bai Chongjiang was seated in an inconspicuous corner, flanked by two unfamiliar children.

The Bai family is rather peculiar, because in fact, the only person in the mansion with the real surname Bai is Bai Chongjiang.

This brings us to the origin of Bai Zhongjiang's noble bloodline.

The Bai family, an ancient family with a history of ten thousand years, is said to be a descendant of Bai Ze and once had a glorious era.

However, fate did not seem to favor this family. Most of their descendants died young, the family dwindled, and no more amazing geniuses emerged.

Until Bai Chongjiang's mother's generation, the only daughter in the family, Bai Nuan, eventually married into the family. She was in poor health and it took five years of marriage before she gave birth to Bai Chongjiang.

However, her life was like a fleeting firework, vanishing quickly and leaving behind only her young daughter.

On her deathbed, she sought protection for her daughter. Through family connections, she sent Bai Chongjiang to the renowned Zhaoxian Taoist Academy, hoping her daughter could find shelter there and thrive.

After Bai Nuan passed away, her father, Jiang Yuansong, brought her mother and brothers to the mansion and gradually replaced the old people in the Bai family.

The Bai family had been in decline for many years and had no relatives to support them, so they could only leave it to Jiang Yuansong to deal with.

Not long after, he brought back a mother and her two daughters from outside—Zhang, the woman he had been keeping outside. The eldest daughter was even two years older than Bai Chongjiang, and the youngest daughter was the same age as A-Jiang.

The Bai residence effectively became the Jiang residence.

Yang became the principal wife, and both of her daughters changed their surname to Bai, simply because the surname Bai still had value in the Huilan Continent.

Bai Chongjiang left home at a young age and was later replaced by a time traveler. When he recalls these memories, they are only superficial.

She felt no sense of belonging to this family, nor did she have much desire to take revenge on the scumbag and the bitch. Of course, she harbored many thoughts of cursing them and wishing them good karma.

But when Bai Nuan came to mind, even though he only had a vague impression of her, Bai Chongjiang could feel a surge of emotion in his blood, a feeling of closeness and sorrow.

Mother, that is my blood-related mother.

She felt a pang of sadness and remained silent in her seat, silently experiencing everything.

Inside Yingfeng Hall.

Grandmother Luo sat in the main seat, with Bai Furong sitting to her right.

"Today's family banquet is for two reasons: first, to welcome Xiao San and Xiao Si back from their journey, and second, to celebrate Xiao Si becoming a formal disciple of the Yao Guang Sect."

The old woman announced with a broad smile.
