Chapter 9 Grain (shuhaige.net)

They were engrossed in their books, searching for clues about the mythical beasts, and time passed by unnoticed. Suddenly, a clear child's voice interrupted their thoughts.

"Why did you bring the bird into the library? It will dirty the books."

A-Jiang slowly raised his head, and the scene before him made his eyes light up. A child of about seven or eight years old, dressed in a blue and white disciple's robe, stood quietly in front of him.

This garment might appear simple and unadorned on A Jiang, but on Ji Yi, it might look somewhat clumsy and bulky.

However, in this little child, it seemed to radiate new life, like the tender buds of early spring, both delicate and full of vitality.

The child had a pair of beautiful and handsome eyebrows, slightly upturned almond eyes, and fair and delicate skin, like a celestial child descended from heaven in legend.

Ji Yi said weakly, "This is my spirit beast. It's very small and won't mess things up."

As if in response to Ji Yi's words, the little golden eagle let out a soft cry.

The little girl was immediately drawn to it, and the golden eagle looked at her with its round eyes. The little girl reached out her finger to tease the golden eagle.

Ji Yi quickly stopped him, "This golden eagle can eat people's fingers, you have to be careful."

The little baby raised an eyebrow.

Ah Jiang's face darkened: "He was just joking with you. We don't know what this eagle eats either, so we're looking for information in books."

The three of them started chatting about this topic and got along very well. After introducing themselves, they learned that Ji Yi and the little girl were actually related and that she was named Si Linglong.

The two were five years apart in age and had both come up the mountain to learn martial arts since childhood, so they had never met before. However, this relationship made them feel even closer.

A-Jiang and Ji-Yi were about to tell Linglong when the child shook his head vigorously.

He said, "Your plan is wrong. First of all, take the Cold Wonder Spring water. You're all so old. Drinking a few small bottles won't change much."

She looked at A-Jiang and asked, "Have you had your spiritual roots tested before?"

"If you have a water or wood elemental root, it might be of some use, but if you have a metal or fire elemental root, it will only harm you. Moreover, as far as I know, the spring water can only exert its maximum effect after being mixed."

A-Jiang nodded. In his memory, the original owner had been tested when he was in the family. It showed that he had mixed spiritual roots and could cultivate, but he wouldn't go far.

A Jiang and Ji Yi exchanged a glance, both feeling very disappointed.

"Speaking of spirit beasts, I think they probably eat spirit creatures. I have a good idea."

She paused to say this, only revealing herself after being urged by A-Jiang and Little Fatty: "Unless you agree to help me find a spirit beast too."

The two quickly nodded in agreement, and the little child smiled and said, "The medicinal fields in the Pill Garden are full of spiritual herbs and trees, but all herbs and trees will attract insects, and the insects that eat the spiritual herbs and trees..."

She understood when she mentioned these two people; the insects that eat spirit herbs are spirit insects, which are very suitable for feeding spirit beasts.

Even if it doesn't eat insects, it can still complete tasks in the Pill Garden and get some rewards, which can be exchanged for some spirit beast pills for the little golden eagle to eat. It's a win-win situation!

After discussing it, the three of them felt it was a very feasible idea. With Linglong's help, the two of them quickly found several books about raising spirit beasts, such as "The Spirit Beast Raising Handbook." They returned to their dormitory and didn't mention it again.

Zhaoxian Taoist Academy only has classes in the morning, so the three of them went directly to Lvqi Academy in the afternoon.

The golden eagle was very hungry in the morning and ate some rice porridge haphazardly, but its listless appearance made Ji Yi very anxious, so he pulled A Jiang and Linglong away quickly.

Green Wonder Garden is a garden built two miles east of the Taoist temple; it was Master Zhao's medicinal herb field.

It occupies a large area, including a courtyard house and a large grove of trees.

When a gentle breeze blows, the colorful herbs in the medicinal field sway gently, and deep in the garden, there are more than ten acres of lush medicinal fields and orchards.

Normally, this Green Wonder Courtyard is managed by Ge Ying, the second disciple of Master Zhao.

Although Ge Ying was young, he was very talented and was highly regarded by Master Zhao.

The three of them, Ah Jiang and his companions, needed his help to arrange their mission.

Although A-Jiang and Xiao-Pang had rarely encountered such missions before, they were filled with curiosity and anticipation for the Green Wonders Academy.

Linglong, on the other hand, seemed very familiar with everything here. She easily found the boy who managed the garden and explained her purpose.

Soon after, they were brought before Ge Ying.

Ge Ying was a tall, handsome young man with a bright and intelligent look in his eyes.

Upon seeing Linglong, he smiled and asked:

"Junior Sister Linglong, what brings you here today?"

“Senior Brother Ge, we’re here to accept a mission,” Linglong replied with a smile.

"Huh? Junior Sister, didn't you already agree to go to Wanying Sect? Why are you still here to take on the task at the Medicine Garden?" the young man asked curiously.

"I didn't have anything else to do, so I came with a friend."

Ge Ying then turned his gaze to the two people behind Linglong. They were dressed in ordinary disciple clothes, were young, and had unfamiliar faces.

He frowned slightly, his heart filled with confusion, finding it hard to understand why Linglong would befriend these two unremarkable students.

However, he didn't ask, and instead said with a smile, "Hello, you two, what kind of mission do you want to take?"

"Greetings, Senior Brother Ge," A Jiang and Ji Yi greeted him first, then said, "We would like to take on the task of catching insects."

Ge Ying said, "Perfect timing, I have a task for you to complete. Some yellow-browed crickets have appeared on the cypress tree in the backyard. Why don't the three of you give it a try?"

The three exchanged a smile, a hint of excitement and anticipation flashing in their eyes. Catching the yellow-headed worm was a bit tricky, but the thought of the hungry little golden eagle filled them with energy.

So, the three of them chatted about interesting things at the academy as they set off for the backyard.

Sunlight filtered through the treetops, casting dappled shadows on them. A gentle breeze brought coolness and dispelled their anxieties.

In the backyard, the crape myrtle stands tall and lush.

The yellow-fronted beetle leaped and danced among the leaves, making a buzzing sound.

The three exchanged a glance and tacitly split into three directions to begin chasing and intercepting the cunning little insects.

The mission was successfully completed.

Back in his dormitory, Ji Yi took out the insects. Sure enough, the little golden eagle ate them. He also fed it some spiritual grains and herbs as instructed in the book and carefully raised it.

In the days that followed, life seemed to be blended into a cup of plain and tranquil water.
