Chapter 36 Giving the "spoils of war" to Pei Ji
Since entering the palace, she has always enjoyed the finest food, clothing, and daily necessities, and no one would dare to covet anything from Yuqing Palace.
The little dumpling is still young and innocent. Her naivety allows her to see through many things, but at the same time, she also cannot see through many things.
This is both an advantage and a weakness.
Pei Ji smiled faintly, shook his head, and said with a hint of loneliness and pity, "What does this have to do with you?"
"It's related!" The little dumpling straightened up, bursting with a sense of justice.
Pei Ji looked at her with a puzzled expression, and the little dumpling immediately stopped breathing.
"Oh well, anyway, anyway..."
Sheng Sheng felt uncomfortable listening to it and blurted out that sentence subconsciously, but if you were to investigate further, Sheng Sheng wouldn't know why it was related to her.
The little dumpling puffed out her cheeks and changed the subject: "Hey, Brother Pei Ji, let's not talk about this anymore! Sheng Sheng brought something interesting, Brother Pei Ji, would you like to take a look?"
Pei Ji nodded in agreement: "Okay."
The little dumpling breathed a sigh of relief again.
Ugh, look at her mouth, every topic she talks about turns heavy towards the end.
She showed the beehive to her brother Pei Ji, hoping that this time they wouldn't have to awkwardly change the subject again.
The little dumpling was eager to clear the air, so she jumped off the stool with her little bottom sticking out, refusing to let Pei Ji hold her anymore.
"Sister Zijuan, come in quickly!"
Zijuan obediently stood guard outside, listening intently to what was happening inside.
If anything goes wrong inside, she will rush into the house to protect the princess.
When Sheng Sheng finally came out and called her, Zijuan carried the beehive into the house.
Zijuan secretly observed this rumored hostage prince.
"This servant greets Young Master Pei."
Pei Ji smiled faintly and nodded to her, his gaze falling on the beehive that Zijuan was holding. He paused, looking somewhat bewildered.
Sheng Sheng chuckled and proudly raised her chin, pointing at the beehive: "Brother Pei Ji, look! This is the one I guided Fifth Brother to break down! It's so big, and there's so much honey inside. Isn't Sheng Sheng amazing?"
The little dumpling was so proud and serious that he didn't realize that his calling out "Fifth Brother" had once again revealed something.
Pei Ji was both amused and exasperated by her, and couldn't help but say something.
"Careless little thing."
Sheng Sheng didn't hear clearly: "What? A wasp? No, it's a bee, Brother Pei Ji. There's no honey in a wasp's nest!"
Pei Ji finally couldn't hold back any longer and chuckled, putting his left hand to his lips: "Okay, I understand."
The little dumpling excitedly told Pei Ji how she knew Xie Yunqi had knocked down the beehive. Halfway through her story, she paused, her little head deep in thought.
"Why did you stop talking?"
Sheng Sheng blinked and smiled, "Brother Pei Ji, you can have the honey here!"
Zijuan was taken aback, wanting to remind her that the beehive should be divided equally among the Fifth Prince.
Sheng Sheng waved her hand behind her back, signaling her not to speak.
"For me?"
"Yes, give it to Brother Pei Ji!" Sheng Sheng counted on her fingers. "Sister Zijuan said that honey can be used to make so many delicious things! Like candied fruit, honey cakes, and mead. Sheng Sheng, give the honey to Brother Pei Ji, and Brother Pei Ji will ask Afu to make these delicious things for you!"
Pei Ji was about to refuse, but the little dumpling looked around again and asked in confusion, "Hey, right, where did Afu go?"
No sooner had he finished speaking than Afu rushed in, carrying a bag of Chinese medicine: "Young Master, I'm back! This trip was really tough; you have no idea how much I had to talk my way out of it—"
Afu's voice stopped abruptly the moment he saw Shengsheng. Afu scratched his head and chuckled dryly, "Uh, the princess is here too."
"Ah Fu—ah, what, what princess? Where is there a princess?" The little dumpling was about to respond subconsciously, but after realizing what was happening, she quickly pretended to be confused and looked around.
Pei Ji smiled and shook his head, saying nothing.
Afu looked at his young master with a bewildered expression, wondering what was going on.
Pei Ji knew the little dumpling was embarrassed, so he waved to Afu to put down the medicine in his hand and changed the subject: "The medicine on the stove should be ready by now."
"Oh, sir, wait a moment, I'll bring the medicine out right away."
Afu quickly put down what he was holding, took two damp cloths to remove the porcelain pot from the medicine stove, and poured the medicinal soup into a bowl, making the already strong medicinal flavor even more mellow.
Sheng Sheng watched as A Fu brought the bowl of dark medicine to Pei Ji and asked, "Brother Pei Ji, are you sick?"
"It's just a slight cold."
Pei Ji gently blew on the medicine to cool it down and drank it down in one gulp.
Afu couldn't help but say, "This cold has really lasted a long time. Young Master's health is not good to begin with, and he doesn't get much nutrition. Otherwise, how could he have been sick for a month?"
Listening intently, Afu continued to mutter, "Last time he was so sick he was delirious and fell into a pit."
At this moment, Pei Ji frowned and interrupted him: "Afu."
Afu awkwardly shut up and said no more.
From these few words, Sheng Sheng roughly understood that Pei Ji had probably had a high fever last time, and was delirious, so he fell into the pit in a daze.
Sheng Sheng frowned and told Zi Juan to put the beehive in the corner.
“Brother Pei Ji, you must be malnourished like Sheng Sheng was before, that’s why you’re like this. The Imperial Physician said that people need to eat more meat to get nutrition. Sheng Sheng doesn’t have any meat right now, so I can only give you honey.”
Pei Ji looked at her without saying a word, but Afu was startled by the beehive: "Hey, where did this beehive come from!"
Ah Fu took a closer look and found that there was quite a lot of honey inside: "Young master, there's a lot of honey in here! Things made with honey are very nutritious!"
Sheng Sheng nodded in agreement, "Mmm!"
"Thank you." Pei Ji didn't refuse again and thanked him with a smile.
"You're welcome."
Sheng Sheng waved her hand, indicating that she was going to rent it out: "Brother Pei Ji, you're still sick, so please rest well. I'll come to see you again next time."
"good."
The little girl arrived skipping and jumping, but left looking preoccupied; even Zijuan could tell she was troubled.
"Princess, what's wrong?"
"It's okay."
He shook his head with a smile.
Since she didn't say anything, Zijuan didn't press the matter.
So Zijuan could only ask her what to do about the beehive.
Sheng Sheng thought for a moment and said, "It was wrong of me to send out Fifth Brother's beehive without his permission."
Sheng Sheng originally just wanted to show Pei Ji her spoils of war, but when she saw that Pei Ji was not doing well and was not even getting enough meat, she didn't know whether it was out of pity or something else, and immediately gave him the beehive.
Now, Sheng Sheng doesn't know where to find another beehive to return to Xie Yunqi, so she has to think of another way to compensate him.
"Next time I see Fifth Prince, I will apologize to him. Then I will ask him what he wants and make it up to him."
