Chapter 135 Illness

Chapter 135 Illness

The other kites were all fairly standard, not flying very high, but at least they managed to soar smoothly through the air.

After fiddling with it for a long time, Sheng Sheng finally grasped the knives and managed to get the kite flying.

"Fourth Brother, look! Our kite is flying!"

The kite swayed in the direction the wind blew, and the swallow's tail rippled like waves.

Xie Yunwen stared at the kite, a smile playing on her lips: "Yes, our kite has taken flight."

Sheng Sheng turned his head to look at Xie Yunwen. The young boy smiled gently, and most importantly, there was light in his eyes.

Completely different from the first time I met Xie Yunwen, who was then melancholic, stubborn, and insecure.

She chuckled silently, her soft murmur carried on the wind: "May you soar freely on the wind, roaming in all directions."

The price of being too happy was getting sick. Although she had a great time at Yunshan Farm, as soon as she returned to the palace, the little dumpling developed a fever that very night. Her whole body was burning hot, which frightened Yuqing Palace so much that they quickly summoned Physician Li.

Fortunately, it wasn't a big problem. However, Xiao Tuanzi almost caught a cold on the night of the New Year's Day banquet. Zijuan immediately made her some ginger soup, so it didn't develop into a serious cold.

But today's outburst has ignited the flames of a cold.

Xie Yunchuan felt helpless and heartbroken. He should have known better than to agree to let the little dumpling ride back with him on horseback after they flew the kite.

The little girl got hooked after riding with Xie Yunjia for a while at the foot of Yanshan Mountain. On the way back, when she saw him wanting to ride again, she begged him to join her.

It's also his fault; he softened and couldn't resist the little dumpling's pleading, otherwise she wouldn't have been left cold the whole way.

After feeding the little girl her medicine, Zijuan added a blanket, tucked her in, and helped her sweat it out. She then drifted off to sleep.

The little one couldn't sleep peacefully; the fever kept coming back, turning red and then black, and the fever just wouldn't go down.

Physician Li said it was because her body was too weak before. Although she had been taking supplements, her foundation was still weak. She had just recovered from a serious illness when she caught a cold, which caused her to keep having relapses.

I don't know if it was because I was feeling unwell for too long that I had nightmares. I started talking in my sleep not long after I fell asleep.

I don't know what I dreamed about. My little dumpling was already looking listless because of the fever, and now it's even more painful.

With a furrowed brow, looking utterly aggrieved, and two tears welling in the corners of her eyes, she murmured, "Sheng Sheng is hungry... Sheng Sheng doesn't want to be alone..."

Just like that night, I felt fragile and vulnerable, extremely insecure.

Xie Yunchuan frowned, extremely worried. He helped her put a towel soaked in cold water on her forehead, and then gently patted her body through the thick quilt with his palm, soothing her in a soft voice.

"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid. Brother is here, brother will always be here."

The little dumpling seemed to hear his voice and slowly quieted down, but her eyebrows were still lowered and did not relax.

Zijuan and Huangying were heartbroken. They adjusted the stove temperature and lit calming incense, hoping that Shengsheng could sleep more peacefully.

Zijuan changed the incense and prepared to fetch Shengsheng a clean set of clothes. She knew that if the princess sweated in the middle of the night, her clothes would be wet and she wouldn't sleep comfortably; she needed to have something ready so the princess could change in time.

I took some new, clean clothes and went back. I saw Thirteen standing at the door, seemingly having something to report.

Zijuan thought of Caiyun's matter, and it seemed that there had been some progress.

Knowing that this was a matter of great importance concerning the princess, Zijuan hurriedly whispered to Xie Yunchuan, "Your Highness, Thirteen requests an audience."

Xie Yunchuan frowned, somewhat hesitant, as he was genuinely worried about Shengsheng.

"Your Highness, please go. This is someone the princess cares about very much. It's an important matter. Your Highness can rest assured and handle things here with peace of mind," Huang Ying said.

"Yes, Your Highness, the medicine prescribed by Physician Li is for sedation, so the princess won't wake up for a while. Please rest assured."

Xie Yunchuan pondered for a moment and nodded: "If Shengsheng feels unwell, call the imperial physician immediately, and I will be right back."

"yes."

Fearing that the noise from the meeting would disturb Xiao Tuanzi's rest, Xie Yunchuan took Thirteen to the front hall.

Huang Ying and Zi Juan were afraid that Xiao Tuanzi would have another nightmare, so they stayed by her side and looked after her carefully for a while. They were relieved when they saw that she was no longer frowning or talking in her sleep.

Huang Ying glanced at the time; it was almost midnight.

The group was rushing back to the palace before dark, so they didn't have dinner at Yunshan Farm in the afternoon.

The plan was to eat after returning to the palace; the small kitchen even had pork rib soup simmering on the stove. Who would have thought that the little dumpling would suddenly develop a fever?

After a busy night, the little one was feeling unwell and couldn't eat anything. She only managed to fall asleep after taking her medicine.

Huang Ying guessed that she would be hungry when she woke up, so she planned to go to the small kitchen to stew a light cabbage and radish soup again.

"I'll go and make the princess a light soup to keep warm, so she won't be hungry when she wakes up. You stay here and keep an eye on things, and call me if anything happens."

Zijuan agreed, "Okay, I'll keep an eye on things here."

Huang Ying closed the door, and gradually only the little dumpling's heavy breathing remained in the room.

Zijuan removed the wet cloth from the little dumpling's forehead; the originally cold cloth had been warmed by her burning heat.

I quickly wiped her face and body again, changed her clothes, and then put the little dumpling back into the blanket before I felt at ease.

After changing the wet towel, Zijuan sat on a stool and stared intently at the little dumpling on the bed.

The calming incense gradually filled the room. Not daring to let Shengsheng catch a chill, the windows were all closed. In addition, the charcoal fire made the room very warm, and Zijuan started to feel sleepy after staring at it for a while.

Yawning, Zijuan shifted her position, resting her elbows on the table and propping her head up.

She had intended to change her position to wake herself up, but the new position only made her more drowsy, and she fell asleep without realizing it.

Zijuan had just fallen asleep when the little girl on the bed frowned and opened her eyes.

Sheng Sheng felt heavy all over, as if a thousand-pound stone was pressing down on her.

The taste of medicine hadn't dissipated from her mouth, and the bitter soup lingered on her tongue, reminding her that she was sick.

I feel so awful.

She stirred restlessly a couple of times, trying to get up, but her body was just too uncomfortable. Her mind wanted to move, but her body wouldn't let her, and she drifted off to sleep again.

The window creaked open a crack.

Suddenly, Afu's eyes appeared through the crack, his eyeballs darting around as he peered inside. After confirming that there was only Zijuan sleeping there, he crouched down and whispered to Pei Ji, "Young Master, you can go in!"

Pei Ji nodded and quietly opened half of the window. Afu squatted down and made a bridge with his hands. Pei Ji stepped on the bridge and used Afu's strength to gently jump in.

Recently, the court has been quite critical of him. If he were to sneak into the princess's palace at night and this gets out, Pei Ji would be finished.
