Chapter 37 The Sound of Assassination

Chapter 37 The Sound of Assassination

As soon as the little dumpling returned to the palace, she started thinking about what she should do to make up for Xie Yunqi.

Why don't we take out that pile of gifts from last time and let Fifth Prince choose some?

"No, no, Fifth Brother is so radiant, he definitely doesn't lack these things."

Sheng Sheng quickly rejected the idea.

So what should we do?

Yan Hu went to the archery range with Xie Yunchuan today, so he couldn't be there to give her advice.

Huang Ying was busy training several newly transferred palace maids to Yuqing Palace and didn't have time.

As soon as Zijuan returned, she went into the small kitchen to prepare her dinner.

Sheng Sheng was alone in the hall at that moment, staring blankly at the ceiling.

A man dressed as a eunuch lingered at the entrance of Yuqing Palace, peeking furtively inside.

Seeing that no one was around, the eunuch tiptoed toward the side hall where Sheng Sheng was, looking guilty as he sprinkled something on the ground.

Zhui Feng, who was hiding in the shadows, narrowed his eyes. After confirming that the person was not from Yuqing Palace, he appeared behind him like a ghost and knocked him unconscious with one hand.

Zhui Feng frowned, then picked up a bit of powder from the ground with his finger and examined it carefully.

"It smells like arisaema and pinellia... itchy powder?"

Itching powder can cause skin irritation, redness, and other discomfort. While it's not fatal, it's clear that someone sneaking around here spreading itching powder is not a good person.

Zhui Feng was glad that he had stayed by the princess's side at all times, otherwise the thief might have sneaked into the side hall.

Zhui Feng pondered for two seconds, tied the person up, and carried him to the woodshed of Yuqing Palace.

He planned to leave the person in the woodshed first and then report to His Highness when he returned to handle the matter.

Little did they know that after Zhui Feng carried the person away, a female doctor slipped in.

Sheng Sheng was still staring at the ceiling, deep in thought.

"My fifth brother is a bit impulsive, but he's still a very lovable person."

As Sheng Sheng was pondering this with a troubled expression, she suddenly realized, "Oh dear, did I call my fifth brother 'Fifth Brother' in front of Brother Pei Ji?"

Sheng Sheng racked her brains, and as she did so, she realized that not only that, but Huang Ying had always called her princess in front of him before!

In other words, Pei Ji already knew who she was?

Sheng Sheng covered her face and collapsed onto the bed, burying her face in the soft blankets, letting out a wail: "Stupid Sheng Sheng, clumsy Sheng Sheng! How could anyone feel comfortable being friends with you if they didn't know who you are?"

At this moment, Sheng Sheng wished she could go back to the time in Jingyue Pavilion, cover her mouth, and give herself a good whack on the head.

How could she have made such a stupid mistake? Wouldn't Pei Ji have known all her little schemes clearly?

"So embarrassing..."

Sheng Sheng lay on the bed, not wanting to move, as if she wanted to pretend she didn't exist.

The entire hall was as quiet as still water, with only the occasional frustrated wails of the little dumpling and the chirping of sparrows in the treetops outside echoing each other.

"Princess, I am a female physician from the Imperial Hospital. Physician Li is unavailable today, so he sent me to deliver medicine to you."

A woman who looked like a doctor entered with her head bowed, carrying a wooden tray with several prescriptions on it.

Sheng Sheng has been taking the nourishing medicine prescribed by Physician Li to strengthen her body. It has been half a month since Physician Li last delivered the medicine, so it is indeed time to get a new prescription.

So, without a second thought, she said, "Thank you, Sister Healer, you can keep it!"

The female healer had been keeping her head bowed respectfully, but upon hearing this, she raised her head and glanced at her, then reached under the wooden tray to feel around.

"Yes, Princess."

Sheng Sheng was feeling depressed and didn't want to move, so she remained buried in the blankets.

The female doctor put down the wooden tray and walked out.

Sheng Sheng heard her walking out, and silently lay there for a while, thinking that she would go to Zijuan later to tell her that new medicine had arrived, but then she heard the sound of a door closing.

"Um?"

It was strange; she never closed the palace doors during the day because she couldn't stay still and would always run outside from time to time.

Could it be that some new palace maid doesn't know?

Shengsheng jumped off the bed, went around the screen to look outside, but saw that the female doctor who should have left was not only still there, but was also locking the door.

The female healer noticed her coming out, turned around and smiled at her: "Princess."

Sheng Sheng was startled, frightened by her expression.

The female healer, backlit, walked towards her while smiling.

But the smile didn't reach his eyes; it was a forced smile, his eyes filled with fierceness and malice, yet he feigned a respectful demeanor.

There was a resolute determination in her eyes, but what made Sheng Sheng's mind go blank was the malice deep in her eyes—Sheng Sheng felt a sense of déjà vu, as if someone had looked at her like that before.

Her breath hitched, and a shadow inexplicably rose in her heart, enveloping her small body.

Sheng Sheng quickly backed away, her subconscious telling her that this person was definitely not a female doctor!

"Princess, don't be afraid."

The female healer smiled and comforted her, but her movements suddenly quickened, and she moved forward at lightning speed, her feet moving like the wind.

Sheng Sheng immediately shouted at the top of her lungs, "Zijuan! Huangying!"

Sheng Sheng kept backing away until she saw the person in front of her pull out a dagger from under the wooden tray containing the medicine prescriptions and rush towards her.

Sheng Sheng's eyes widened in surprise. She shook her head to shake off the shock and quickly circled around the screen to get away from her.

The female doctor seemed surprised that a child could react this way to such a situation, and chuckled through gritted teeth, "You think you can outrun me?"

As he was saying this, he reached out to pull her in front of him, but Shengsheng quickly flipped over the chair and jumped down, then kicked the chair over.

The chair hit the female doctor's leg, and she cried out in pain, angrily kicking the chair away.

The little boy ran towards the window, his short legs struggling to climb onto the soft couch.

However, because she was not tall enough, it was very difficult for her to climb. By the time she finally managed to climb onto the soft couch and was about to climb out of the window, the female doctor had already caught up with her.

The female doctor forcefully pulled on Sheng Sheng's right leg. Sheng Sheng was so frightened that tears welled up in her eyes. She struggled incessantly, kicking her right leg wildly: "Waaah, let me go!"

The commotion was so loud that the sparrows perched on the big tree outside the window were startled and took flight, flapping their wings.

At this moment, Huang Ying and Zi Juan, who had noticed the commotion inside the hall, realized something was wrong. They tried to come in, but found that the door was locked from the inside, and they couldn't get in at all.

"Princess, Princess!"

Huang Ying pounded on the palace door, and Zi Juan poked a hole in it to look in. She saw a woman grabbing Sheng Sheng's leg and pointing a knife at her. She was so frightened that her soul almost left her body.

Zijuan cried out, "Princess! Help! Help!"

"Quick, quick, break the door down!"

The female healer grabbed Sheng Sheng, but did not rush to kill her. Instead, she pressed Sheng Sheng's head to the side, lifted her hair, and looked at the birthmark behind her earlobe.

The female doctor's face was filled with shock and fear: "Red Lotus Birthmark, are you really Xie Yunsheng?!"
