Chapter 471 I'm still a child
Consort Rong looked at her, and the more she looked, the more satisfied she became.
"As expected of the eldest daughter of the Li family, she has excellent upbringing and remarkable demeanor."
Li Manyan was a little nervous outside the palace, but now that she was in front of Consort Rong, she was not nervous at all.
Li Manyan gradually regained her original rhythm, lowered her eyes and curtsied, and said gracefully, "Your Majesty is too kind. I am unworthy of such praise."
"No need to be modest." Consort Rong smiled and gestured for her to sit down, her gaze softening. "From now on, we are family, so there's no need to be so reserved. Chuan'er is a rather cold-hearted child, and it's his good fortune to have found such a beautiful woman like you. I hope you will be more tolerant of him in the future."
"Your Majesty's favor is too much for me." Li Manyan looked into Consort Rong's eyes and said earnestly, "His Highness is of upright character and has a broad mind. It is my good fortune to have won his favor. If I am fortunate enough to work with him in the future, I will do my best to treat him with respect and understanding, and live up to Your Majesty's expectations and the trust placed in me by both families."
"Good boy."
Consort Rong was increasingly relieved. As a mother, she was content that her son had someone who loved him and cared about his well-being.
Consort Rong summoned Li Manyan today to comfort her and to tell her not to be overly reserved because of her change in status.
Secondly, he wanted to find out her preferences so that the Imperial Household Department could arrange their wedding in a way that was both dignified and satisfactory, and that would make her genuinely happy.
Consort Rong inquired about Li Manyan's daily preferences one by one, watching them talk back and forth. Since they came in, the mother consort hadn't said a single word to her.
It's clear how happy Consort Rong was that Xie Yunchuan and Li Manyan were finally able to become a couple.
Sheng Sheng was also happy, so she listened quietly from the side. From time to time, Consort Rong would tell Li Manyan some interesting stories about Xie Yunchuan's childhood, and Li Manyan would also tell Consort Rong some interesting stories that Consort Rong did not know.
The two chatted for a long time, and even though they didn't speak, they were very happy to hear each other's voices.
Although they were talking about Xie Yunchuan's interesting stories, one could sense their unique yet similar feelings for him.
After the two finally caught their breath, Sheng Sheng finally found a chance to interject: "Does Mother dislike Sheng Sheng as soon as she sees Sister Yan Yan? Mother doesn't even talk to Sheng Sheng anymore."
Sheng Sheng put her hands on her hips, feigning anger.
Consort Rong pinched her cheek and said in a doting tone, "You are already so old, yet you still act like a child with your mother all day long."
"What's wrong with being cute?" Sheng Sheng snuggled into Consort Rong's arms, nuzzling her neck, and said softly, "Sheng Sheng will always be Mother Consort's good baby. Even if Sister Yan Yan becomes my sister-in-law, Mother Consort will still love me the most!"
Consort Rong laughed as she was pestered by her, patting her back with a mixture of helplessness and indulgence: "Yes, yes, I love you the most."
Consort Rong turned to look at Li Manyan, her eyes full of smiles, "Look at this girl, she's been spoiled rotten by me."
Looking at the tender scene between the mother and daughter before her, Li Manyan's lips unconsciously curved upwards, her eyes filled with gentleness: "The princess is innocent and carefree, and it is only right that Your Majesty cherishes her. Such a vibrant and carefree appearance is pleasing to the eye, and I like her very much too."
Sheng Sheng peeked out from Consort Rong's arms and winked at her: "Sister Yan Yan is the best! Unlike Mother Consort, who only cares about talking to her and ignores me."
Laughter gradually filled the hall, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere; the previous restraint had long since vanished.
Sheng Sheng always has this ability to dispel the surrounding awkwardness silently, using her vividness and liveliness to make the dull atmosphere light and lively.
"His Highness the Crown Prince has arrived!"
Suddenly, a voice came from outside the hall. Consort Rong sighed helplessly, "Oh dear, it's only the time since the morning court session ended, isn't it? Look at this child, she must have known you were coming. She couldn't sit still and rushed to Jinxiu Palace right after the morning court session."
Li Manyan's heart tightened, and her ears turned red under Consort Rong's good-natured teasing. She didn't know what to say.
When Consort Rong saw this, she couldn't hide her joy.
It seems these two are truly in love, very much so!
To find someone you truly love in this lifetime is such a blessing.
Consort Rong's eyes were slightly moist. Her son Chuan'er was born in this deep palace. Although he had unparalleled glory, he had also lost something.
Fortunately, the wife he married was the one he loved.
In the years to come in the deep palace, at least someone knew his joys and sorrows, understood his hardships, and could bring him a sense of peace and warmth.
Consort Rong held Li Manyan's hand tightly: "Don't be nervous. I have no other intentions. I am just happy. My greatest wish is for you two to be in love with each other and to treat each other well, respecting and loving each other."
Li Manyan nodded with a smile.
The footsteps approached steadily, and a figure in a black court robe stepped into the hall, still carrying the solemn air of the court, but softening slightly the moment he crossed the threshold.
As soon as Xie Yunchuan entered, his gaze fell on the person facing him. He first calmly bowed to Consort Rong, his voice low and gentle: "Your subject greets Your Majesty."
Consort Rong smiled and waved her hand, her gaze sweeping between the two of them. She teased, "You rushed here right after court, without even having time to change out of your court robes."
Sheng Sheng chimed in, "That's right, that's right! Why are you in such a hurry, brother? Sister Yan Yan is right here, she won't run away."
Li Manyan bit her lip, her face flushed red from the teasing, and she lowered her head, not daring to look at anyone.
Xie Yunchuan was overjoyed when he saw this. Instead of being angry at Sheng Sheng's audacity, he surprisingly went along with her and said, "Yes, it's urgent."
Sheng Sheng trembled, goosebumps rising all over his body.
Sheng Sheng covered her eyes and said, "Hey, brother, I'm still a child!"
"Now I know I'm a child."
Xie Yunchuan glanced at her, then glared back defiantly, "Brother, don't forget how much I helped you yesterday!"
Xie Yunchuan chuckled but remained silent.
Xie Yunchuan looked at the girl who had been silently leaning against him, his eyes darkening.
Li Manyan rose and bowed: "Your Highness the Crown Prince."
Xie Yunchuan smiled and didn't stop her. He waited until she was halfway there before slowly raising his hand and saying in a low, gentle voice, "No need for formalities. Please sit down. There's no need to be so formal."
His gaze fell on her flushed cheeks, his fingertips twitched almost imperceptibly, and his tone unconsciously softened: "I just came from the morning court session. Did I disturb your conversation with your mother?"
Li Manyan shook her head and said softly, "No, Your Highness is too kind."
Seeing the unspoken understanding between the two, Consort Rong smiled with even greater satisfaction. She picked up her teacup, took a small sip, and pretended not to see them, leaving ample room for the two to interact.
Sheng Sheng pouted and muttered under her breath, "She clearly came to see Sister Yan Yan, but she pretended to ask if it was bothering her. How hypocritical!"
