Chapter 33 Little Strawberry
"He..." Li Shulan hesitated to speak, with a strange look on her face.
Just then, the door opened.
"I'm back! Is the meal ready? The kids are hungry."
Yu Xian was holding a little girl of four or five years old in his arms, standing at the entrance, sweating all over, and said loudly.
Put on slippers and walk towards the hall.
"Shulan, dinner isn't here yet..." The words on the tip of her tongue stopped abruptly when she saw the person sitting quietly on the sofa.
Yu Nian looked at the man, smiled slightly, stood up and called out, "Dad."
Yu Xian finally realized that what he saw was not an illusion.
The daughter he thought about day and night was right in front of him.
He didn't care about the little one in his arms. He put the little one down without saying a word and stared at his daughter.
He walked over in two or three steps, hugged his daughter in his arms, tears in his eyes, "Niannian! Daddy's good daughter is back! She's back... It's good that she's back... It's good that she's back..."
The little girl was put down at random and no one cared about her, so she naturally refused and started crying loudly.
This attracted the attention of the three people in the living room.
Yu Xian let go of his daughter, walked over, picked up the little girl and coaxed her, "I almost forgot about you, little one."
Yu Nian also walked over and casually pinched the little girl's chubby face, "She's quite cute."
"Dad, whose child is this?" Why is my dad taking care of the child?
"Oh, this is..." Father Yu glanced at the little guy and spoke, but was interrupted by Li Shulan.
"This is the neighbor's granddaughter!" Li Shulan said quickly, and when Yu Nian was not looking, she quickly winked at her husband.
Father Yu understood and suppressed his uncomfortable expression, "Oh, yes! The neighbor's granddaughter lives on the floor above ours, and your uncle Zhao's grandson has something urgent to do, so he asked us to take care of him for a day or two."
Li Shulan breathed a sigh of relief. "Right! We're neighbors, so we should help each other. Your dad and I have nothing to do on the weekends anyway, and we're so bored. Playing with the kids can make the day go by more easily."
Yu Nian didn't notice the interaction between the two. He was concentrating on teasing the child, pinching her little hands, pinching her cheeks, and touching the little girl's two pigtails. "She's quite cute. Ha, Dad, do you think she looks like me when I was a kid? I remember I was like this when I was a kid, with two little pigtails. I was so cute. The uncles and aunts in the neighborhood loved to tease me. I would go out for a walk and come back with a bag of candy in my pocket, haha!"
This reminded Yu Nian of his childhood, and he couldn't help but smile.
"I'll go cook. The meal will be almost ready." Mother Yu went to the kitchen. Before leaving, she winked at her husband and glanced at the child in his arms.
Father Yu understood and nodded quietly.
The two of them played with the child together in the living room, fed him some snacks and fruits, and chatted about the past. Yu Nian occasionally talked about his experiences abroad.
Mother Yu was in the kitchen. She glanced at the three harmonious people in the living room and breathed a sigh of relief.
I quickly opened my phone, found my best friend's WeChat, and asked her to come back and pick up the child as soon as possible. If she really didn't have time, I could ask someone else to pick her up.
In short, the child can no longer stay at home.
Nian Nian is back.
Soon, the meal was ready.
The family had a happy dinner together.
The sound of children's laughter like silver bells echoed in the air, and the atmosphere was very harmonious.
Eating the dishes cooked by his mother, it still had that familiar taste. Yu Nian couldn't help but feel tears in his eyes again. What on earth has he been doing all these years?
She doesn't understand it herself.
Forcing myself to divert my attention, I asked, "By the way, what's this kid's name?"
It’s a small ball, but quite cute.
"Xiao...Little Strawberry." Yu's father answered subconsciously, paused, and then spoke quickly.
"Little Strawberry... well, it's a cute name." A string in Yu Nian's heart was unconsciously plucked.
Li Shulan glanced at Yu's father accusingly. "As for nicknames, all kids these days use names like strawberry, watermelon, and mango. They're pretty cute, aren't they?"
After dinner, Yu Nian returned to his room and prepared to pack his luggage.
Looking at the furnishings in his room which were exactly the same as before he left, Yu Nian felt a pang of sadness in his heart again.
The quilt was freshly washed and had a familiar aroma.
I didn't mention returning to China, but I thought my mother would clean my room and change the sheets and pillowcases from time to time.
All of this only proves one thing.
Her parents were always waiting, preparing for their daughter to come back.
Yu Nian wiped away the tears that fell unconsciously.
Looking at the photo of the family of three on the dressing table, I couldn't help but murmur, "It's so good to be home."
"Niannian, your dad and I will take Strawberry out for a walk and will be back soon. The child is clamoring to go out and play." Li Shulan shouted outside the door.
Yu Nian, "Okay, Mom."
"Would you like to go out for a walk with us?" Li Shulan invited.
"I'll pack my luggage first. You and Dad go first. I'll come to see you later." Yu Nianying.
The room fell silent.
Yu Nian simply packed his luggage, which wasn't much, just toiletries and two sets of clothes.
It was around seven in the evening and it was getting dark.
Yu Nian went out to visit her parents. They hadn't been back for a long time, so she planned to go for a walk in the community.
Jixiangli has a large green area, many kinds of flowers and plants, and a good environment.
After searching for a while but still not seeing his parents, Yu Nian was about to make a phone call when he was interrupted by a voice.
"Yu Nian, you're back!"
Yu Nian looked up at the source of the voice, "Uncle Zhao?"
What a coincidence! This is Uncle Zhao, our upstairs neighbor, and Little Strawberry’s grandfather.
Didn’t you say you were busy? Did you go to your relatives’ house?
"Uncle Zhao, you're not..." He glanced at the little boy in his arms, about three or four years old, "Is this your grandson? Little Strawberry?"
Does Little Strawberry have a younger brother? Isn't there no one at home, Uncle Zhao?
"What nonsense are you talking about? Your Uncle Zhao only has a little grandson! He's a precious treasure, so precious that your uncle takes him with him wherever he goes!" Uncle Zhao looked very proud. His family had a big grandson, which was certainly worth showing off.
Boom!
Yu Nian felt like something exploded in his mind.
Uncle Zhao was at home, and he had only one grandson, the little boy he was holding in his arms.
That......
Who is Little Strawberry?
Why do parents lie to themselves?
I remembered the mother's hesitation at the beginning, the father's discomfort when I asked the child to call him, and the interaction in the eyes of the parents.
She always felt as if they were hiding something, and she originally thought she was overthinking it.
But now...
In an instant, she seemed to understand.
Little Strawberry is not Uncle Zhao’s granddaughter at all!
Perhaps, Little Strawberry is really her nickname?
Or was it just a temporary fix for the leak that Dad almost let slip?
Yu Nian felt mixed emotions.
What is Little Strawberry?
