Chapter 54 The Dust Settles (Part 1)
Zhou Xun felt like he was going to die.
His head and torso were bent into a twisted angle, his hair was pulled and slammed against the wall, his forehead was deformed, and soon, the belt around his neck almost cut off his breathing.
He was in pain, very painful, almost unbearable. It felt like his head was pierced by an iron rod, making him lose the ability to think and react, but he still protected his right hand instinctively.
He heard a curse, and then a sharp stone hit the bone of his wrist hard, and then his little finger was broken. He hunched over and his body spasmed wildly. The huge pain made him curl up and twitch uncontrollably.
During the entire process, he kept his fists tightly clenched, and in his remaining consciousness, there was only one thought: Don't let go!
Then, a knife was placed on his wrist, "Cut his hand off!"
Those few cold words made him fall into panic and despair for the first time. He could wait for death quietly but refused to let go of his hands, as if what he held in his hands was something more important than his life.
Perhaps God heard his cries, and as soon as the knife cut through his flesh, the police arrived.
Soon, the sounds of fighting and gunfire came to his ears. He lay motionless on the ground, slowly moving his right hand under his body, and a trace of relief flashed across his blood-stained face.
Gradually, he fell into a coma. When he woke up, the first thing he saw was the black muzzle of a gun. It seemed that a bullet would pierce his head in the next second.
His body was still convulsing as he stared motionlessly at the muzzle of the gun. Everything around him was in chaos and he could not hear anything. There was a fire in his eyes, and then a sense of relief.
He looked at the man who was dragging him into hell and pulled the trigger. He knew that the bullet would soon spin out of the barrel, penetrate his skull, and then exit from the back of his head.
He was not afraid, but he still felt regretful.
God was kind to him after all. In a flash, the policeman named Shen Yunfei rushed over and pushed the man, and the gun went off target and hit him in the chest.
In the severe pain, he heard the policeman shouting at him anxiously and terrified:
"Zhou Xun! Beibei will be here soon, just hold on!"
Beibei...
Zhou Xun had been lying motionless on the ground. When he heard these two words, his fingers moved, and he slowly curled up his body. He murmured in pain, and his dim eyes flashed with hopeful prayers and struggles. It was difficult for him to move his eyeballs.
Yes, he cannot die. He has not seen Beibei yet and he has something to say. He has to see Beibei before he dies.
When Shen Yunfei saw him move, his face lit up with joy. He kicked away the man who was restraining him from behind. Just as he was about to run over to check on him, he suddenly heard a roar in his ears.
"Throw him down!"
As soon as the police car stopped outside a detached villa on the beach, a gunshot rang out. Xia Beibei trembled all over and hurriedly opened the door and ran downstairs.
The moment she pushed open the door, her breathing suddenly stagnated and her heart almost stopped beating.
"No--"
She widened her eyes in horror as she saw a bloody figure falling from the second floor. Xia Beibei screamed and tried to rush over, but her legs went weak and she fell to the ground with a thump.
In a flash, Gao Bochuan had already quickly passed by her, rolled over, stepped on the coffee table and pounced forward, barely catching Zhou Xun's body, and both of them fell heavily to the ground.
Gao Bochuan's head and elbows hit the floor. He groaned heavily with a pale face. His mind went blank for a moment, but when he got up, he just frowned and carefully put Zhou Xun on the ground.
Yang Lin breathed a sigh of relief, helped Xia Beibei up from the ground, put his arms around her waist and supported her body as she walked forward.
"Zhou... Zhou Xun... Zhou Xun"
Xia Beibei knelt on the ground and wiped the blood off his face in a panic. After seeing the face clearly, she held her hands in the air and trembled violently, not daring to touch him again.
Looking at his bloody body, she cried until she almost fainted, her face as pale as paper. Especially when she saw the muzzle of the gun on his chest, Xia Beibei didn't dare to move and cried even harder.
Zhou Xun heard the noise, slowly opened his eyes, turned his head with great effort, and the corners of his blood-foamed mouth raised a slight arc.
"Bei Bei"
Blood was gushing out of his chest, his eyes were dazed, his breathing was rapid, and when he opened his mouth, blood spurted out.
Xia Beibei's tears were getting more and more. She finally held him carefully in her arms and hurriedly wiped the blood from the corner of his lips.
"Wuwu... Zhou Xun... What should I do... What should I do... Don't die, I don't want you to die, don't scare me, I'm scared"
She cried incoherently, with unconcealable despair and fear.
Yang Lin helped Gao Bochuan up from the ground and looked at him worriedly, "Boss, are you okay?" The collision just now was quite serious.
Gao Bochuan rubbed the back of his head and wiped the blood on his hand on his body without saying a word. He just lowered his head to glance at Xia Beibei and Zhou Xun, then turned around and roared at Lin Qi who had just come in.
"Where's the ambulance? Why hasn't it arrived yet?"
He was afraid something might happen on the way here, so he asked Lin Qi to call an ambulance early. When they arrived, there was no sign of the ambulance.
It was the first time that Lin Qi saw him so angry. She was frightened by him. She glanced at Zhou Xun on the ground, and without daring to delay, she ran out to make a phone call.
Yang Lin walked over and saw Zhou Xun's appearance. His face was moved. He quickly looked around and finally his eyes stopped on the upstairs.
"Boss, there are sounds of fighting upstairs, it should be Yun Fei and his group"
Gao Bochuan simply treated Zhou Xun's gunshot wound and stopped the bleeding before discovering that he had more than one gunshot wound. There was a bloody hole on his forehead, obvious marks of strangulation on his neck, and several knife wounds on his body.
The whole person was covered in blood, and what was even more shocking was his right hand. His little finger was broken, and the flesh and blood were all over the broken finger. His wrist seemed to have been hit by a heavy object, and the flesh and blood were tumbling. It was unbearable to look at.
After treating the other wounds, Gao Bochuan reached out and touched Xia Beibei's head. He seemed to be about to say something, but in the end he said nothing.
Zhou Xun seemed to sense something, turned his eyes to Gao Bochuan, and said weakly, "Second floor...Second floor utility room...My mother...is tied up...Save...Save her"
Xia Beibei was stunned for a moment, her breath choked, and her whole body was shaking. Gao Bochuan rubbed her face with a hoarse voice.
"Leave the rest to me. You stay here with him. The doctor will be here soon."
After saying that, he stood up suddenly, tugged at his collar with a cold face, turned around and went upstairs. Yang Lin hurriedly followed.
Xia Beibei and Zhou Xun were the only ones left in the living room.
Xia Beibei burst into tears and kept wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth. Zhou Xun raised his hand with difficulty, and his hand, which had been tightly clenched into a fist, finally opened. Four crushed white pills stained with blood could be vaguely seen in the palm of his hand.
"Bei... Beibei... Be good... Eat this."
Xia Beibei cried and shook her head. Zhou Xun closed his eyes weakly, then slowly opened them. His bright red lips moved slightly, uttering a few weak syllables.
"Eat it, otherwise my injuries will be in vain, and I will die with regrets."
He laughed, and blood came out of his mouth again. Xia Beibei carefully held his hand, put her trembling lips on his palm, and licked the broken pills mixed with blood with her tongue bit by bit.
The smell of sweat, blood, bitterness, and the saltiness of tears all mixed together and filled his mouth. Xia Beibei pursed her lips tightly. Her hands were covered in blood. The more she wiped, the more blood there was. So she lifted her clothes to help him wipe the blood from the corners of his lips.
"Brother, you said you would always be with me, you can't lie to me. If you die, I will hate you, please don't die, please."
Zhou Xun's body twitched, and his furrowed brows showed that he was in pain. Xia Beibei hugged him tightly, and because she was close, she heard a faint moan from his throat.
"Beibei, I'm afraid I won't be able to wait until you get married. I left you a sum of money and business assets. Go find Lawyer Lin. I've already made a will. Those are... my dowry for you."
The hoarse voice carries pain, reluctance, the dying person's attachment to his loved one, and relief in the face of death.
Xia Beibei's eyes, which she had just wiped clean, began to shed tears again. Her heart seemed to be tightly covered by an invisible net. The desperate and suffocating feeling almost made her collapse.
"No, I don't want it. I don't want a dowry. I want you. You can't die."
Hot tears fell on Zhou Xun's face. Zhou Xun moved his eyes with difficulty, looking at the face in front of him almost greedily, his breathing becoming weaker and weaker.
"Beibei... Beibei, I'm sorry, I kept it a secret from you for so many years, please don't hate me"
Xia Beibei put her ear close to his mouth, and her hands, which were holding his body, were shaking violently.
"I don't hate you. Why didn't you tell me earlier? I'm sorry. If I had known this would be the ending, I would rather not have the truth. I'm too stupid. Zhou Xun, don't you like me? If you live well, I will give you a chance. You are not allowed to die!"
There were twinkling lights in Zhou Xun's eyes, and as his breathing became weaker, the lights began to dim.
"Bei... Beibei, give me a kiss."
This way, he will have no regrets.
Xia Beibei was afraid of his weakness, but she still held his face and kissed him, their lips touching. The strong smell of blood filled her nostrils. The kiss was mixed with tears and blood. Zhou Xun looked peaceful, but Xia Beibei became more and more desperate.
The air was filled with the smell of blood, that familiar smell, just like the nightmare twenty years ago. It was... the smell of death.
Lin Qi ran in sweating profusely. She was deeply moved by the scene in front of her. She covered her mouth with her hands and tears welled up in her eyes. Doctors and nurses were rushing over with a stretcher beside her.
